Most Embarrassing Moments on the Course?

On Memorial Day, I saw some 400 pound behemoth hiding behind the smallest ficus on the damn course in the MIDDLE of the course. At least you had the decency to go into the woods like a normal guy. This dude was probably a 12 pack in though and was facing the tee box and club house doing so. At least two-hundo was sticking out on each side of that damn little sapling.

Good lord I'm sure that was a sight to behold.

ok, fine, for those can't work it out on their own then

1 - I need a "xx" wedge

2 - Grab what I think is the "xx" wedge based on the numbers showing (dirty head, bad lighting, in a hurry, whatever condition anyone else wants to express incredulity on)

3 - pull it out to take the shot, maybe even set up and start my routine,

4 - big bright grip is right there

----"oh look, it's the wrong/correct club"

Other sequence (since the wedges are all the same length)

1 - I'm at the driving range and all the clubs are leaning against the rack (near end of session, I personally keep them out and finish up by cleaning all of them, other people for different reasons).

2 - I want the sand wedge -

---- grab the yellow one

etc etc etc

I don't think this is such an unusual choice....

Hell, there's even a product where you print your club number and distances on a little sticker and put it on the shaft.  I even know 2 people that do this.  They don't seem mentally deficient.

Easier than you think when you are dead tired from flipping steel joists all day and you are more or less just going through the motions of "playing a round" just because your friends want you to play.

At least that was the scenario when I did it.

Funny thing was that when I hit it I thought I hit it absolutely perfectly but could tell by the trajectory that something was wrong. Then when it landed well short I knew what was wrong.

Even funnier was that I was tired enough that I didn't even care. At least I knew where it was and was on my way to the green.

But you are admitting that one could pull the other club out of the bag, inadvertantly.

It's just one easy step further to take that swing.

It's pretty rare, but that 'perfect' player is only perfect until he does something silly.

I believe there is a law of nature that when you choose or grab the incorrect club, you will hit it pure 99% of the time

Correllary to this law:  If you get a bad distance estimate, you will also hit your shot perfect to that wrong assumption 99.2% of the time.

Lol!! A friend "claimed" he grabbed his 6 instead of the 9 when he airmailed a par 3 but I was pretty sure he thinned it...

You know what it really shows though is his swing is so consistent that he was able to still hit a solid shot thinking he was hitting a club 3 lofts stronger, that tells me consistency.
