That's a little extreme dude. Eventually you Tiger homers are going to have to wake up to the reality that he's done.  I can't handle another Euro running away with a major, but should be a great pairing between DJ and Rory tomorrow. Would love to see DJ put some heat on the little leprechaun

Uhhh I'm not a Tiger "homer". I'll enjoy anybody as long as the scores are close. Rory McIlroy running away with this thing is boring as hell

So as a matter of interest, did you turn the television off during the last Ryder Cup with America 10-4 up because they were running away with it?

If you find one-way events boring, you will have done, so I apologise if you did, but at the back of my mind is a suspicion that because America was in the ascendancy you'd have been happy to look past the fact it was boring one way traffic?

And let's be honest, the fightback at Medinah if it proves nothing else, should tell you that those of you crowning Rory after 36 holes are perhaps being a bit premature

I seldom even have my cell phone with me and it's just a regular old cell phone. I think I may have taken a few pictures with it before I got the Zi8 camera that I usually use.

If I remember right the cell phone camera, and the Zi8 don't make a sound when I take a picture. There is not a chance a golfer could even know I was taking their picture. I had the Zi8 with me when I went to an LPGA tournament and since nobody told me I couldn't take pictures I took both still pictures and video of quite a few players and nobody but me had a clue.

I don't know what kind of cameras are disrupting Tiger and others but it's obviously something that makes a sound or a flash.

The thing is some people have no clue how to mute their phone. I read that on the iPhone, in some countries - the shutter sound cannot be disabled - Japan I think to prevent men from taking photos of women's private parts in subway stations and the like. Anyways, I can tell the difference between an SLR shutter and a smartphone shutter sound, but I can't tell which Woods is hearing, the mics aren't good enough.

HAHA. One of my favorite movies.

I know, I was confused as well. What does The Open Championship have to do with the not knowing Germany didn't bomb Pearl Harbor!

If the World Cup is any indication, we're going to extra holes on Sunday!  Followed by more deadlock and then closest to the hole shootout! Yes! :-D

Damn, wish Singleton made the cut. Great effort, though, not many amateurs can say they shot -2 in a round in the British Open!

I'm not crowning him just yet. I just cringe at the thought of another US Open type event

Admittedly I'm about 100 miles s/e of Liverpool, but it's certainly bubbling up tonight

I thought I'd dig a few links out for you. The first will do in-situ reporting, and should tell you where the storms are at present (Kent and London at time of typing)

This one will show you more of what's happened and whats coming in so far as you can see weather systems moving in. Normally they come from Ireland, but at the moment they're coming from France which gives us the sultry conditions that turn stormy when it encounters are cold air

McIlroy just played beautifully after the third hole - just hitting the ball where he wanted to do apart from a couple of loose drives.

DJ doesn't have the balls to catch him - McIlroy has more finesse to his game.

Great news about Tom Watson.

Vale Bob Torrance - a nice man in an industry filled with bullshit artists.

Tiger needs to just play. He'll be back, but a British Open ain't the place for a comeback.

Anyways, getting back on topic before my knowledge of history gets ignorantly questioned anymore- I think it's going to be an awesome weekend. Rory is not a great wind player and I think will suffer this weekend if it blows much. Don't see him running away with it...too many talented people within shouting distance. He's come a long way since then but he can still be an emotional player and can self destruct if he catches a bad break or two. ...remember no. 10 at Augusta in 2011. He will feel more pressure this weekend than ever before in his life.

They're just going to do that glass breaking thing from Big Break if two players are tied after the playoff.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt Skydog, but had to do a second take as I've frankly heard some amazingly bad (and not a bit frightening) accounts of history according to the American education system. Otherwise, I think your diagnosis of Rory is correct. I've seen nothing that suggests he's a lock. We've seen him blow up enough times this season and previous. Sure when he strings it together he is the best player in golf (reminding me more and more of Seve) but that means four rounds, not two. Now and then he will play four good rounds, and then it is goodnight Vienna, but we aren't there yet. It was mentioned earlier that if he wins on Sunday, he's one green jacket away etc You might choose to look at this way though, had he not blown up at Augusta in 2011, then he'd be two rounds away - it's an amazing achievement (or would have been) and golf needs its new generation to step up for the profile of the sport. I think Rory has more potential than most to keep the game vital. The players who worry me most are these clean living, anodyne,  God following Americans, or love their families. How do you market that globally?

In absence of a dominant alpha flag bearer, golf's got to find something. Variety, competitiveness, and clashes of culture/ style might be the answer

Now, that would be fun to watch.

You market them in the same way  as they do the military guys holding flags at tournaments with players ostentatiously shaking their hands under the keen gaze of the TV cameras. And the non - American commentators, notably Feherty and IBF enthusiastically frothing at the mouth to thank military personnel for their "service" and to enthuse about the way they'll not let the American flag touch the ground.

In other words, in a way that alienates the rest of the world and makes guys like IBF and Feherty look like try-hard sycophants.

Rory has been the most exciting and talented player in world golf since he was 16.

He will excite the golfing world in a way that Tiger did even if he achieves a quarter of what Tiger has.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I agree with most of this ... although a bit skeptical of the last sentence.  I hope you're right though.

Really rooting for him this weekend.  Of course, that doesn't really mean much cuz I'm also really rooting for Sergio and Rickie Fowler.  Any of those would be a great story!!

If anybody runs away with it, McIlroy would be the best person to do it. He's the future of golf. I would love to see McIlroy win by 6 or 7 strokes.

Looks like "dire" weather coming tomorrow at Royal Liverpool. Phil out early, but Tiger is going off 10 tee at the same time as Rory goes off number 1??
