I would consider Edels fitting system to be pretty innovative, but beyond that I have no idea. I'm not really into putters so I don't follow any of that stuff anyway. I just bought the second putter of my life and it's a pretty safe bet I'll never buy another putter unless this one gets lost or broken. :)

I may be wrong, but as far as I know, Edel's fitting system is only innovative in that they brought it to amateurs. The tour pros have been getting fitted putters for years.

I'm convinced that having a putter that fits is very important. I'm not convinced that it makes much difference which putter it is.

My putter cost $1 at a yard sale and I putt better than plenty of people I know that have expensive putters (including Scottys). Either the putter isn't making very much difference or I'm just on a long run of good luck and they are on a long run of bad luck.

Agree 100%.  Also part of the reason why I'm so big on the Edel fitting system.  You bring your current putter in and if you can aim it properly and control your distance, then you're done and you walk out of there with your putter.

Of course.  The same thing is true about adjustable clubs too though.  That innovation is only applicable to amateurs because pros have always had the ability to get whatever spec they wanted on a whim.

I would like to try the Edel fitting sometime.

A few years ago I had compiled quite an assortment of putters from mid-range priced to very cheap. I decided to conduct an experiment and have a contest between all of the putters over a month's time in practice using a rating system of between 1 and 10 for each putt.

I never expected it and was actually a little disappointed that my favorite putter of the bunch (and all the rest) lost out to the first putter I ever bought that cost $1.

My conclusion was that it was the putter that fit me best among those putters. I probably could have obtained a putter in my favorite brand that fit the specs of that putter and it would have performed just as well.

Since my putter is only the putter that happened fit me best among the putters that were in the contest the odds are that it still doesn't fit me perfectly and could be improved upon if I were to be fitted by somebody that knew what they were doing.

I to wouldn't mind trying an Edel fitting. The issue in Wisconsin is we don't have one and the closest to me is over an hour away in Illinois. I have emailed him and he's willing to meet a 1 of 2 country clubs for the fitting, both of which are  over an hour as well. The fitting is free so may find one close to something the wife wants to do and make a day trip out of it but the guy so far has been only willing to schedule a weekday and I am not taking a vacation day to get fitted.

Interesting perspective but I'm not sure which putter manufacturers you consider to be innovative at this point in the putter market if not SC?  I think he's innovated user changeable weights, the Futura X counter balanced seemed pretty innovative as well.

I disagree that he innovated changeable weights and counter-balancing putters. Heck, the Heavy Putter had weight in the butt end of the club.

Edel has had these things, too, for years.

I may be wrong, but as far as I know, Edel's fitting system is only innovative in that they brought it to amateurs. The tour pros have been getting fitted putters for years.

Pros aren't even really "fit" properly. They get lie angle, loft, etc. adjustments made (length, etc.) but they aren't rigorously tested to see if they can even aim the darn things or control distance well.

PGA Tour pros, by and large, know less about equipment than most people know. They are "stupid monkeys" who are good at swinging sticks, not knowing about the sticks they swing. They grab a putter, make a few putts with it, and then ask that it be fitted perfectly for them, which again typically involves just the above stuff.

It's kind of sad. They're almost exactly like amateurs who don't know about putters and just buy "what looks good." Look at how many putters Arnold Palmer has - the average PGA Tour pro accumulates a lot of them too.

A one-hour drive? FWIW we've had people drive four hours to get to us. But… at the same time, if you're a 23, wait a little bit to get a putter. Work on some other things first.

Depends on your definition of "fit."

I believe the use of lasers and discovering where you are really aiming is more of a recent development, even for Pros.

Previously, I would see Pros and Ams who paid,  being fit on a SAM Putting Lab -- I guess since it was introduced, early 00s? I've only seen more popular use of lasers by others for the last 3-4 years or so. Still, not everyone is using lasers to measure aim. I read posts where the fitting wasn't on a SAM or with lasers for aim.

But not for Edel, where the laser aiming is a fundamental part of the process.  At the same time, the Edel fitting is more comprehensive as to every aspect of the putter (shape, hosel, sight lines, loft, weight, etc.) shaft, counterweights, and grip. When your Edel fitter has a SAM Putting Lab or similar Software, then you have putter fitting nirvana...

I hear ya, I don't know if I am a 23 or not, not official, I shoots mid 90's on 18. I have broke 90's a few times but also shot over 100 a couple as well. It's not so much as the hour drive, it's that I need to take a vacation day to do it.

That is sad, considering the access they have to technology and equipment. I think Scotty Cameron is just getting into the laser fittings at this studio. What tour players have had over the amateurs was the ability to customize their putters. Until Edel the average Joe had to go with the stock "look" of each putter, one type of sight line and typically one type of hosel design for each head. Tour players have been able to get whatever sight lines they wanted, even custom head designs, for years.

In terms of fitting, for a tour player it's basically just a bunch of trial and error. Hit some putts with it and see if the ball goes in. You see guys like Jimenez, Westwood and Furyk switch from mallet putters to blade putter and everything in between. They know what they like in the moment they like it. Most of them really haven't taken that next step to figure out that head shape A fits my eye (or stroke pattern) better than head shape B, and I aim better with a dot instead of a line.

I've never heard of Edel in my entire life.

Which is why you believe some of the things you believe.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Sure you have. Earlier in this thread, for example.

That is true. I did hear of this Edel Co on this website. I guess I meant never before outside of this single website. Honestly. I hope to be able to check one out one day. They seem to have a loyal following here. It's just very strange I've never seen or heard of one ever

Neither had I.  Before I found this website I had not heard of Edel, Aimpoint, Golf Evolution, and Evolvr.  Since I found this website I have lowered my handicap by 40% ... and it's still dropping.

Sooo ... just because you haven't heard of it before, don't discount it.

(I had also never heard of Miura, Scratch, Fourteen, and a few other specialty equipment makers, but none of their equipment has helped me get better yet)

Sorry this reply is so short, but… so what?

You, a Titleist rep, has never heard of someone who makes arguably superior* equipment. :-)

That was not intended to be an insult on Edel. No, I honestly have not. Let me ask you, in your opinion why aren't they mainstream? I'm certainly no tour pro, but I've been in quite a few big events - USGA qualifiers. US Am, US Open qualifiers.. Never made it, nor did my brother although he did make it to sectionals. I've never heard of them once in any events.. Not in other clubs I've ever been in, Golfsmiths, even never heard of them on TV. So how else would I? except here. I'm sure they are wonderful flatsticks. and this fitting system sounds awesome. No way am I saying they are subpar, I've got zero experience with one, but I will one day and post my thoughts when I do.

They're still a relatively new company.
They still do a lot of the work by hand and in person.
A lot of big box stores and even pro shops don't want to have to train employees to administer putter and wedge fittings. That severely limits where they can sell and makes it tough to sell online and through third parties.
• On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
