This is not a subject to be joked about or taken lightly, but seriously, you have to question the mental health of someone in his position who would choose someone as vile and hideous as Paula Gretzky for a "life partner".  I would beg thinking that there are some VERY serious issues that he has to deal with and being married to "party girl" with her past is going to be part of the problem, not the solution. Reading between the lines, it is very possibly substance abuse  - given that he talks about "self improvement", which is much more telling than simply "getting healthy", the more usual euphemism.

You never cease to amuse me sir, vile and hideous - funny shit. I too wish DJ well...

Dude, really???

I have no idea what's going on in DJ's life but I wish him the best. Always good to see these guys (athletes, actors, rock stars, whatever) recognizing the problem and fixing their lives before it's too late. Nothing sadder than watching an immense talent throw it all away.

Totally agree. They're human just like the rest of us, and can get caught up in bad habits just as easily (if not, more easily). Having a boat load of cash and access to just about anything you want, can test a man's will power, I imagine. Looked like him and his wife were living the rockstar lifestyle for awhile there...maybe it caught up to him/them. Seems like an OK guy, and I'm sure he'll figure it all out.

Who cares.

Well, if we're being honest, I wouldn't mind a list of which golfers are partying hard.

Anthony Kim would be at the top of he list...If he still counts as a golfer

I won't sound as sure about Paulina Gretzky's moral foundation as @Shorty , but I've sure gotta agree that from the public evidence she offers, choosing to marry her is an epic mistake that would be made only by someone who makes poor choices.  Wouldn't be at all surprised if a drinking or coke habit went along with that kind of choice.  Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he MET her at a debaucherous rich people's coke party.

He doesn't.  Golf Channel confirmed not long ago he has given up golf... he doesn't even play it recreationally anymore.

That's awful, I know this is way OT, but jeezus man what a waste of talent.

Indeed.  Here's to hoping DJ gets the help he needs for whatever is wrong and gets back soon.  It'd be a shame to see his talent go to waste as well.

It's a shame. He was playing pretty good, too. Contended at the British Open and was 4th in the Fed Ex Cup. Will be interesting to see if he plays the Ryder Cup.

Who cares, lets all just hope he gets well and give the dude some privacy.

Clearly the golfing world cares very much.

It's a big story.

But you can already see the couch interview down the track with Dianne Sawyer ore Oprah  v  e   r   y   slowly shaking their heads with eyes squinted as he recounts his struggles down the track, with Paula looking all lady like and respectable next to him.

If it is drugs, my sympathy is limited. Did he not get the memo that they have a tendency to do the opposite of what people think? The one that every child has been given on a weekly basis from age 5?

If he's a "role model" and that's what he's out for, he has lost a supporter.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

As in who cares about debating gulbis/gretzky

He's a genuine talent.  Hopefully he weathers this storm, whatever it is.

With the Golf Channel crowd, it's unlikely he'll be able to do it peacefully or privately...

Fair enough, but it's a pointer towards his character and the kind of person he is.

I'm sure Taylormade isnt too happy with this. He's just about their biggest marketing tool. I also heard this morning on MD that Taylormade/Adidas is really struggling and they are having issues even selling discounted old inventory. That combined with one of their top pros to advertise through, cannot be good for them. I would imagine they are gonna quickly pick up another talent and when DJ does return, he may not be a Taylormade player. That story was saying Nike is really blowing their competitors out of the water; which kinda surprises me because sure they have the top 2 names in TW and Rory, but Taylormade has the depth.

Well aware but age isnt on his side and a lot of people dont like him. DJ is like Taylormade's Rickie Fowler. Kids love him.

This is not a subject to be joked about or taken lightly, but seriously, you have to question the mental health of someone in his position who would choose someone as vile and hideous as Paula Gretzky for a "life partner". There are so many beautiful, lovely girls out there that it would be so easy for someone in his position to meet one, but look at who he goes for - Gulbis and Gretzky, two of the most plastic and evil looking types you'd ever see. It sure ain't the issue of not being able to close out a major.

"Plastic and evil looking types" What the hell? Do you know them personally? Did they run over your dog? So what if he's married to a party girl? There's nothing wrong with party girls, just as they're is nothing inherently good about people who don't party.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
