Hole of the day was a long par 5, birdied it after I hit a 3W pin high on the left fringe. Missed an eagle by a few inches..

I don't think I trust the GG handicap yet though.. I shot 30 over and they have me at 16..

Yeah, I recently learned their handicap system is quite a bit different. https://gamegolf.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1929900-handicap-everything-to-know

- What's the difference between the USGA's handicap and GAME GOLF's?
Besides being similar in terms of a stroke-count representation of how well a golfer performs with respect to typical scratch golfers, the main difference is that GG Handicap doesn’t use the course/slope ratings against a players score.  GG Handicap uses the actual yardage played for each hole from their tagged tee positions to the middle of the green, with dog-legs factored into the equation according to the design of the hole.

I feel like I'm at a disadvantage with this when it comes to GG challenges and competitions though.. Don't get me wrong, this is not an easy course, but still! I hope to have 7-10 rounds by the end of Aug so I'll be able to make a better opinion on this HC.. The course gave me a HC of 26 I think, but said they will issue me an official one after I submit 5 cards.. Huge difference.

Congrats Ken! You have an 80's swing for sure. It's just that damn putting that got in the way when we played. Keep it up.

Uhm, so… yeah. I didn't even play well on the front nine.

  1. Driver flared right (safe to miss there). Toed hybrid slightly. Lousy pitch shot. Two putts - first stopped an inch short.
  2. Driver where I was aiming. Short with the iron but on the green. Easy two putts from 25 feet.
  3. Flare cut into the trees. Had a small window that I hit with a little cut. Two putts.
  4. Heeled driver. Thin PW. Made the putt.
  5. Slight pull-draw with the 6I. Good pitch.
  6. Was trying to hit a gap, chickened out with the face and left it open. Good 8I to the middle of the green.
  7. Driver flared way right. Really good 3W. Pitch came up short. Two putts.
  8. Thin 7I. Two putts.
  9. Heeled driver slightly. Good 8I. Two putts.
  10. Driver flared WAY right in the next fairway. Remembered something and crushed a hybrid. Good pitch to near tap-in range.
  11. Small little pull. Pitch stopped short (downhill?), made a 10-footer.
  12. Good drive down the left. Played to fat side of the green. Made a 20-footer.
  13. Good drive up the right side. Hybrid flew about 250 yards uphill to the left side of the green. Pitched it to tap-in range.
  14. Good drive up the gut. Good iron to the middle of the green. Putt a foot short up the hill in the jar.
  15. Solid 5I to the front of the green. Putt also a foot short in the jar. Greens were slow.
  16. Drive into the left rough. Iron to green. Putt a foot short…
  17. Drive way right. Hooked a 5I into the left edge of the fairway. Pitched it to a foot.
  18. Heeled a driver going for a bit more than I should have. Hit a hybrid that was caught up in the breeze a bit. Long putt to a foot or two for a tap-in par.

So, that's how I do it. I advance the ball. I keep it in between the ropes (mostly). I recover well and virtually always get an nGIR. I take advantage of the opportunities I get. My short game is pretty simple and straightforward. I hit the middle of greens, even from 70 yards.

This was bound to be a 75 if I hadn't kind of figured something out on the 10th hole.

New lowest score even though I felt like I played terrible. Putting was pretty bad, driving accuracy was terrible  but i didnt have too many complete miss hits or OOB shots.

Its funny, a couple months ago I would range from 110 to 90 and then back up to 110 again.  Ever since I broke 90 for the first time, my last 5 rounds have been 86, 90, 87, 88, 85

Good ballstriking day, shitty scoring day. Hit a lot of good putts that just didn't go in. 13 was disappointing, hit two good shots and then putted it off the green

Olympic Club Lake. Couple of loose shots but overall controlled my ball well. Couple of bad bounces but that's normal on those greens. They've made some great changes to the course, playing much firmer than when I played there in college.

Tournament today. 78, second place by one. Blue tees. Guy drained a 10 footer for par on the last hole. Oh well, I did win some skin money with three straight birdies.

Sometimes I swear I hit it farther than it records ... I checked one shot today and it was about 10 yards short ... in fact, it had me at the bottom of the green for the putting and I was at the top ... it was like the map was a bit askew ... anyone noticed this?

I hope I am finally starting to figure this lesson out.  My ball striking is about as bad as at has been since this spring but I believe I am making better decisions.  Aiming for the side of the green where there is the least trouble, leaving the driver in the bag on narrow fairways, etc. I had no penalty strokes today other than I had to take a drop on an unplayable lie. Anyhow I shot my best round ever today, a 95, I know, not special, but it was to me!  Thanks TST and LSW! :-)

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
