I now get 56.xx and 5.7x down/up from my laptop, which is a relatively new MacBook Pro Retina and which is located downstairs.

Upstairs, on this computer, I get around 37-38 Mbps now.

Curious, how long does it take you guys to download say a 1 hr (actually 45-50 min sans commercials) tv show or a 2 hr movie in HD? Yeah, unscientific but more "real world". I downloaded a recent tv episode ~50m, HD from iTunes in about 30-40min although Apple's servers/networks are the bottleneck. I think the fastest I downloaded 1.5 Gb is around 10 minutes from commercial cloud storage.

Depends on your connection speed, the size (quality) of the video and what speed the server you download from can deliver.

On a 50 Mb down line, you can divide by 8 to get your download speed in MB/s (50/8 = 6.25 MB/s). A 1.5 GB file would take: 1500 MB/6.25 MB/s = 240 seconds = 4 minutes.

Of course, many servers are not able to provide an upload speed as fast as your download speed. My highest download speeds are from torrents and Steam. With enough seeds, I can get great speeds on torrents.

I don't have a working computer at the moment but I tested mine a couple weeks ago after signing up for 50/50 (i think i said 25/25 in another thread) and I got pretty close to that with my laptop.  I was in the 40s on both ends.

For some reason, its seemed very slow on my phone and tablet, and they clocked in under 5mbps downloading.

I had 5/1 I think, for the last year or so, then verizon upgraded me to something like 15/15 automatically, and then I moved and got 50/50 for about $20 less than I was paying for the 5/1 and 15/5.

I voted "great."  I never really find myself thinking I wish I had more internet speed, and I stream a lot of HD online.

Here's my office speed, which has gotten worse and worse over time..

There's a tab for a photo and you can just link to that. Click on "share results" gives you the photo URL.

Someone's gotta tell me.  What does it mean?

@David in FL

The speed test indicates the amount of data which can transfer from your computer through your Internet Service Provider , looks like you are through "Bright House Services"

Your test shows "download at 34.48 mega bites per second which is reasonable and should be sufficient to view web pages and download files.

But your "upload" is very slow. If you were to send photos to someone, it would take a long time for the files to upload to the server.

"Ping" rate is just a test which indicates the request to identify your service request to the Speedtest site.

So basically, your service is reasonable for internet use, downloading files, but lacks a little when uploading to the internet from your server. No biggie.

Did you just say 2 mb/s up is slow and will take awhile to upload photos???

Also, "reasonable for internet use?" I think you have a very skewed idea of what is necessary for standard internet use.... a 15 mbs / 1.5 mbs connection is pretty much more than adequate for most home users.

You don't know from slow unless you were around during dial up days hah

Yeah, seriously… Guy's connection is faster than 55% of the U.S. It's fine.

AOL still makes most (millions) of its money from dial-up, believe it or not…

ROFL.... If I had to go back to dial-up I'd just pay the extra for tethering on my cell phone.

I can't imagine really needing more than 15mbps.  When I had that I had no trouble streaming netflix in HD.  You've got to be looking at a LOT of porn on 5-6 devices simultaneously to need more than that.

Thanks.  Now for the $64,000 question.  Why is it faster to download than to upload?  It doesn't seem to make sense that data moving through the system moves faster one way than another.

Please use little, non-geeky words...... :-)

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
