Played An 8 Hour Round(s)

We did something we have never done before yesterday. My golfing buddy, and I played 4, 9 hole rounds at 4 different course.  The courses were some what close to each other, so travel between the courses was not much of an issue, although it did comprise about an hour, or so of the 8 hours.

Not really any reason for doing it, as we just got a wild hair the day before to do something different. Our bet was to see who could score the lowest per hole average. I was at 4.7, and he was at 4.5. Cost me a nice dinner with our wives later that evening. We started at 8:30 AM and walked off the last green at around 4:30 PM.

Sometimes you just have to do goofy stuff.

It's a sad testament to slow play these days that I thought this post based on the subject line meant * ONE * eight hour 18 hole round.

Yeah, my first thought was "Wow, that must have been excruciating - why did they stay?"

My buddy and I played 36 (18 at two different courses) back in March.  It took 7-8 hours at most.  The first course we had no one in front of us and finished in <3 hours.  Then we drove to the other course and had pretty much the same thing.  The only delay was a passing thunderstorm.

I too thought it was a testament to a VERY long round of golf, but I like the changing up a bit of playing to make it interesting.  My brother and I from time to time look for a way to change things up, we play the same course all the time.  We generally always get in one round for the most forward tees.  Last year we played 4 round in 4 days, so we had a kind of best score skins and total score contest.  So his best score of the 4 rounds on hole 1 vs. my best score of the 4 rounds on hole 1.  Like in most skins, a bunch of pars with a birdie to win a majority of the holes, timing of the birdie is everything.

We played the front nines at, four different courses. The first three we had to pay for 18 holes since they did not have a 9 hole rate. We played in Mesquite Nevada.

We do an annual event we call the Advil Open - there is a golf property in the area with 3 great courses and we play all 3. One is links style, one is parkland and one is what they call a Carolina style course. So, start at 7 am and finish about 12 hours later. It's crazy, awesome, painful and incredibly fun all at the same time. And to be honest, once a year is enough

Nope.....I went off first at 630am as a single.   I finished 18 before the group following me made the turn so I played the back again while it was still empty.  I paired-up on #1 and played behind a clusterFK for my 4th 9 and I was still finished by around NOON.

I use to caddie for a dentist and three of his colleagues who would play an event they called the "Wide Open."

All four dentists belonged to a different country clubs, and over the course of a summer they play a nine hole match against each of their friends at each of the courses. (This was good for the caddies since the dentists would play 27 holes, so we went home with a couple of extra dollars in our pocket.) They used match play format with one point for winning a hole, one-half point for tying a hole, and no points for losing a hole. USGA handicaps were used to determine where the higher handicapped dentists would get strokes.

The winning two dentists and their wives would be treated to dinner at an expensive restaurant by the losing two dentists.

Same here. If I have a cart and no one in front of me, I have no problem playing a round in under 4 hours.  What they did sounds quite fun though.
