The best thing about it is that you are entitled to your opinions, I am entitled to mine, and others are entitled to theirs.

You won't change mine and I won't change yours.

This is great, and I completely agree.  However, I don't think that you can say you agree with that guys article then.  That's entirely his point.  "We need to tell other people that their opinions are wrong and persuade (read: bribe, among other things) them to change them."

I said "I don't disagree with much of that".

There has never been a time since I can remember that we haven't done exactly that. Even went as far as military conflict in our persuasive efforts a few times, which BTW I was usually opposed to.

Right, but the nuttiness of the guys theory isn't that the government should keep doing that in the few places that the government feels are in dire need of it.  He says we should do it EVERYWHERE.  That's cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

As to the bolded part, why not?  I am sure they feel the same way about us.  If I/we feel "our" way is better, why not let it be known?  Seems to me, they would understand without anything being said.  If we felt their way was better, we would be doing it.

But that is not what he is saying. He basically wants to subterfuge the political process and the culture of other countries to shove our ideology down their throat. And if that doesn't work, use our "mercenary force for good".

Really?

"But that is not what he is saying. He basically wants to subterfuge the political process and the culture of other countries to shove our ideology down their throat."

No need. Not even worth it. SMH.

Great coverage of the wave last night. Bret Baier and Megan Kelly were fair, balanced and solid. But, I'll bet MSNBC had their highest ratings ever. That was fun to watch. Lots of righties tuned in to watch them implode.

Those chemical weapons found were not the type Bush and his administration warned about. They were manufactured in 1991, not part of an existing program the administration claimed. And Karl Rove blocked public disclosure of these chemicals. Why would he do that if the finding supported Bush admin WMD claims?

This, from the NYT article referenced in your first link:

Then, during the long occupation, American troops began encountering old chemical munitions in hidden caches and roadside bombs. Typically 155-millimeter artillery shells or 122-millimeter rockets, they were remnants of an arms program Iraq had rushed into production in the 1980s during the Iran-Iraq war.

All had been manufactured before 1991, participants said. Filthy, rusty or corroded, a large fraction of them could not be readily identified as chemical weapons at all. Some were empty, though many of them still contained potent mustard agent or residual sarin. Most could not have been used as designed, and when they ruptured dispersed the chemical agents over a limited area, according to those who collected the majority of them.

In case after case, participants said, analysis of these warheads and shells reaffirmed intelligence failures. First, the American government did not find what it had been looking for at the war’s outset, then it failed to prepare its troops and medical corps for the aged weapons it did find.

Meanwhile, the crux of the real story, soldiers exposed to mustard gas and other chemicals, is overshadowed..

Believe it or not I watched most of it on MSNBC. I turned to channel 200 (on Dish) and CNN had been replaced with MSNBC on that channel. Something about "Turner pulling the channel"?

Chris Mathews was about this color when I tuned in and slowly changed colors as the results poured in . By the end of the night I honestly thought the man was going to need medical attention.

It brought back my memory of the last time I ever voted for a Democrat. Watching the returns that night on regular network TV after the Democrat I voted for had been defeated one of the reporters said "Well I guess we'll have to nominate somebody from the South that believes in the death penalty for jay-walking."

At that moment it hit me that I had been on the wrong side all along, had nothing in common with that group, and would never be on that side again.

Chris Mathews is a blubbering idiot. Maybe worse than him would be Maddow. She is just way too smug looking when she talks, its like finger nails on the chalk board. She does that just for her show. When she is interviewed on shows like Good Morning America she doesn't enter that smug acting persona.

As Mr. Chivers, the NYT journalist, pointed out the weapons were not part of massive, active stockpiles that the United States set out to destroy by waging a war that would last eight years, take thousands of lives and leave Iraq in chaos. They were remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West.

It would help if people actually read the piece instead of just the headlines.
