Finally, as advertised, Cara Robinson has joined Morning Drive. I think she will be a well needed addition and a breath of fresh air. I've always enjoyed her work the few times I've seen her on the golf channel. Hopefully she will be around for a good long while.

I have no idea who she is. Since you seem to know, what can you tell us about her @cubdog ?

Robinson is from England and had been working for Sky Sports. I really don't know all that much about her. I have heard that she has a good reputation among her peers and that she is well liked by the European tour players. Given the number of Euros playing the PGA Tour and living in Florida the hire makes sense. It appears she is taking Kelly Tilghman's place on Morning Drive.

Just saw Gary Williams between Cara Robinson and Phil Blackmar on today's show and it looked odd ... Gary looked like he was in a PIP (picture in a picture). Admirable. He must have no issues as to his stature. I'd look smaller, too, next to Blackmar, and heck, Cara in heels. But I'm not on TGC.... for good reason...

I saw that as well. Pretty funny. Williams must be around 5'5". I think Blackmar is around 6'7". Robinson maybe 5"10"?

Once I heard about Tiger's meltdown at the Memorial today I turned on Golf Channel to get caught up on what happened and caught her for my first experience as a viewer on their pregame show. I couldn't watch it for long! Her voice is the most grating, piercing voice I have ever heard - she sounds like a stern British headmistress in a private school lecturing the students. It was so annoying I actually had to turn it off. Did nobody audition her? Does GC management really think her voice is going to win over U.S. viewers? Make it stop!

Speak for yourself.

Yeah. Even if his description is accurate I think I quite like the visual of a "British headmistress scolding her students."

The only thing that could improve this show is if they paved the set with the hosts still sitting in their chairs.

You seem happy with Cara Robbo! You even took the time to respond to a poster that doesn't like her either! Yes she seems to know her stuff but the problem is her fast talking accent! I dislike her also! So as yo said ' I'm speaking for myself! I watch less GCMornings now because I can't understand a word she says!

First post?

While I do not dislike her, and she speaks rapidly, I think she is doing well for that show.

She is a tall drink of water... some people like the drink, others do not.

True, bad choice of words! I do not dislike her because she does seem to know what she is talking about. I dislike her accent to the point of not be able to understand her. so why watch her? Holley by all means was a guy thing because she looked hot as a bimbo!

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
