So, as we get yet another day of snowfall here in Albany NY I was curious what people do to and how often they practice their full swing when they can't get outdoors to practice. I do have a net but can't use it indoors as there isn't enough space. This winter I've been working on my downswing in front of a mirror. I'm particularly focusing on trying to get most of my weight forward by working on where and how my hips, torso, and arms work together when I start my downswing. I can't say it's concentrated practice in that I spend a set amount of time and a set amount of days per week doing this. However, I do find that most nights after I get home from work I grab my 6i while a commercial is on or what's on tv is boring me and start doing slow and precise movements while looking in the mirror. I can't really do a real speed full swing but I think this is helping. The other thing I'm doing, although I'm not sure if this quantifies, is trying to drop weight while getting stronger and hopefully increase my flexibility. I think this will help me with my full swing, too. So, how do you practice indoors if you can't get outdoors?

I use a bucket of plastic balls that I hit from one end of family room to the the other end of a living room.  Plastic balls don't damage furniture, or walls.  But I had to be careful with my swing.

I do this all the time actually, and I use plastic or a foam golf ball as well (for obvious reasons). It's usually not 100% swings, but I'll take some for a good 5 minutes at the end of my practice and basically just try and get the ball to hit a certain spot on the wall each time (not exact spot, but rather an area to the right of where I'm aiming). My wife has given up on me stopping so she doesn't ask, but I'm very careful of my sorroundings and obviously my biggest concern is the kids, so usually this is when they are sleeping, or I close the door, or I'm facing the direction of the door so I can se the kids coming. This fore has been the most effective practice, but I really need a mirror as I only use my iPhone to record or I put itnon and use it as a mirror to check things. I'm lucky in the fact that the ceiling is high, and usually I'm only swinging a pitching wedge or something similar.

Yeah, it's good to have a high ceiling.   I am using gopro hero4 to record my swing.   This has reduced number of range sessions I have per week and saving me money in the process.

It's funny, I was thinking when I read what @iacas posted I thought to myself if they were located within two hours of me, I'd probably go there every week, haha.

So, how do you practice indoors if you can't get outdoors?

I do mirror work in my sparsely populated gym during the week with drills and full swings.  Instead of hitting balls I usually swing at a rubber tee.  Foam balls go everywhere and I only have a small net.  Everything is focused on form.  I will hit the outdoor range or the more expensive indoor ranges on the weekend if I can.

I also started doing the swing speed training using the SuperSpeed golf system.  I do it as part of my weight workout days.  I feel you need to keep swinging during the off season.  Your wrists and forearms can get injured if you just start up full speed.  Core work is essential too.  I am getting older, 55 this year, and I have to keep it going.

If Golf Evolution was two hours away, I would be there every weekend.  It is by far better than any indoor training facility I have seen in the Boston area and that is just from looking at the photos.

I do this a lot, even during the season. I can actually take a pretty fast swing with my LW in my living room as long as I abbreviate the finish just before A9 or so. Still have to check that you are actually changing the picture by filming yourself while hitting real balls, but I find that the repetition makes it easier to make adjustments in the real swing.

Yea, Golf Evolution is awesome. When are you and @pcombs21 going to open one up in NJ, @iacas ?

If I were more of an entrepreneur, I'd open up an indoor range with a couple of simulators. Every year, the ground is covered from late November to late March. As far as I know, there are only a couple indoor ranges within a 40 or 50 mile radius and they seem to be pretty well booked throughout the week.

The sims aren't cheap ($30 per hour), but the indoor range isn't bad. I enjoy taking full swings but it isn't the same as watching ball flight. I probably have three dozen balls out in the field behind my house under a foot of snow.

Started faithfully 2 weeks ago everyday since, hitting a bag of 14 wiffle balls in my Daughters room (over the garage with higher ceilings) and use my PW-9i and get full swings and hit them into her curtains....

Hello there. Just moved into my first house, and one of my spare rooms is of reasonable size, enough for a 3/4 iron swing I'd say. So I bought some of those foam golf balls....just wondering if anyone has any worthwhile indoor drills??

Take full swings 100 per day in your garage hitting off of an car mat or carpet with your 7 iron,  make sure the swings are real, set up ,waggle & especially follow thru. You don't even have to hit a ball.

You would be surprised what this simple repetitive exercise can do for you, its amazing.  especially if you do it for 30 days prior to actually playing. Its free too.
