Now that is a wobble

Hard to argue with player complaints about that break.  Sheesh.

Is this gorgeous or what?  Tee shot on 14. It's a 280 yard carry to hit the fairway just to the left of the bunker in the fairway.  Jason Day went right of the bunker for the "safe" play, but the commentators said he could've saved a lot of distance by going to the left of the bunker. What a view though.

That is nice. And a true Cape hold to boot.

For all the talk about how tough this course was going to be, a lot of guys don't seem too troubled by it. Winning score may be a lot more under par than we thought. I think it'll toughen out over the weekend, but I still think a few strokes under par winning is looking good.

It won't even take until the weekend to toughen up, IMO.  Jordan Spieth will be the leader at days end at -6 or -7 so.  (That's my bold prediction) ;)

And the scores will get worse from there is my guess.  Final winning score won't be better than -6 (my other bold prediction) :-P

I think there'll be some separation. I think you'll see some guys hang around -7 or -6 and then scores start to detiorate from there by tomorrow afternoon. But I think the rain last night is really making this course vulnerable today. These guys are making birdies. Spieth is looking amazing right now and is going to be tough to beat.

If Spieth wins this, I am sure the talk of "Grand Slam" will get louder in July.

Of course it will.

Especially since he would have just won on a links style course.

Tiger has picked up four spots in four holes. Now he just needs to continue that trend for eighty more holes and he'll be in position to make the cut.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
