Hello, brand new here, getting pretty hooked on this game so figured I should sign up.

So I've never been to a golf event of any kind but live in the NW and am thinking about going to the US Open practice rounds. I've read some threads on tournament viewing which were helpful. In this case I have a few questions. Practice rounds are M-W, which day would be best? Should I take a day off of work, or would going up midday be good enough? What are some good viewing options once I get there? How would I know what's happening where at what times? There seem to be different ticket options, no idea what's what there.

Thanks for any tips!

Photo/video or it's not true. Well, here's the goods, Woods playing the course, courtesy of https://twitter.com/q13sportsphotog/status/605405487270477824

Mickelson and David Pelz spotted as well.

Welcome to the site! I don't have any of the answers for you, but somebody else asked a similar question a couple of months ago.  You might have some luck there.  Check it out:

I hope this link works.  A local sportscaster in the Seattle area played Chambers Bay and is showing the run down of a hole a week.  They have holes 1-16 or so online to view.  Each is about 5 minutes.  Very interesting.  I can't wait!!

The variations of tees and even totally different teeing areas will be very unique to this open.  On the 9th hole par 3, the standard tee box is 100 ft above the green on the east side of the hole.  There will be another tee box 30ft BELOW the green on the north side of the hole.

Nobody knows where they will be teeing off from, so it's best to just study the greens.

Wow that's different. It would be neat if they used both. One for Thursday & Friday and one (the harder one) for the weekend.

Another great article from a Chambers Bay caddie profiling each hole http://www.golfdiscount.com/usopen/#caddie

Wow, after reading through that, this course sounds really tough. The USGA could probably make the winning score +10 if they wanted to.

It also sounds like a course I would hate with US Open conditions. That caddy is talking about the ball not staying on the green if you miss around the green in certain places. There isn't much that makes me more upset than it not being possible to hold green when you're around the green. But I will enjoy the PGA tour pros suffering (especially since they can control where they miss so better than I can).

That is Tiger Woods' airplane?  How very pedestrian.  I mean  is he trying to fly under the radar, or something?  And who is Steve Sloboda that we can accept his photo of some common airplane and believe Tiger Woods owns it or even rides in it?  Just askin'.

They are also changing the par on two holes. They will equal 9, but when one changes to a par 5... the other changes to a par 4.

I wonder which pros made the trip. Woods. Mickelson. There's two. Quote: No. Surprisingly small number of pros have made the trip to @ChambersBayGolf. Less than 10 in the last three months. https://t.co/L0EJptDkZD

    • Broke the head of a Stealth Plus on a warm up. TaylorMade send me a new head but I decided to upgrade it to the new IQ10 LS and pay the difference. While I was waiting for the 8° head to arrive at the store I messed around with all the multi brand putts they had available. I instantly liked a black TaylorMade Spider, not the new one but very similar. The weight felt perfect. Big line in the middle for easy alignment. I was playing and old Zebra so the change in technology and feel was huge. Fast review of both clubs.. Driver QI10 LS. I always hit to ball up in the sky. I was playing the stealth at 7° with a 60g X low flight shaft and I was still hitting it pretty high. With the QI10 playing it at 6° now is almost hard for me to hit it high, with the same shaft the ball comes out lower and with less spin. so I'm really happy with the change. Putter Spider. I love it. It took me an afternoon to figure out how to grip it (it comes with a superStroke grip) but after that it all came into place. More stable on short putts and a good weight to swing smoothly on long putts and with added forgiveness over my old zebra.
    • I have a 2h but we don’t get along anymore. It’s a bit of an abusive relationship - she gives me just enough hope once in a while that things are going to be better and then it’s back to the same old shit. I went to a PING fitting recently with the intention to replace the hybrid with a 5w or something, thinking maybe I’ll be better with a fairway wood than a hybrid. But it turns out the best club I hit that fits in that slot in the bag is another hybrid so I ordered it.
    • Day 547, May 2, 2024 18 holes with @DrizZzY using my TruStick®. Hit a LOT of really good shots today.
    • Not the last thing I bought or bought anything at all but Sun Day Red stuff seems a bit overpriced for it essentially being rebranded Nike apparel. I'm hearing the resale prices are wild though. Either way, I highly doubt I will indulge as I'm not much of a brand guy or a collector. But to keep up my super nice guy image have never turned down a gift though 😇 Tiger doesn't seem to sell stuff like MJ or Kanye did.
