You don't need a golf specific bike although it's nice. I've seen lots of people ride w/their clubs to the range, myself included. If you're wearing pants, two words. Cuff clips. Flats are gonna be a problem.

Bicycling and golf have has long been renowned Hilton Head activities – but never like this. Now golfers playing Palmetto Dunes’ three courses (by Robert Trent Jones, George Fazio and Arthur Hills) can pedal their way around the holes, instead of walking or taking a motorized cart. This offbeat new option allows golfers to play at the speed of a cart while still getting a workout.

That looks fun. Drawback would be transferring sticks and accessories before and after rounds but I'd give it a shot.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Especially if they had some fat-tired bikes that you could ride across the occasional fairway.

That would be great.

I would much prefer that to walking.

I think this thread needs a poll. Would you golf and cycle at the same time?

I agree with Erik, I would do that. Maybe not on a Hilton Head, 90+ degree day. Some courses in Ohio would be tough with some hills. One hole I play regularly you'd be hard pressed to ride up the hill. Still it would be a fun option for the right course.

Worst case you could walk with the bike up the hill, right?

Pretty much. Going down the hills would be fun :)

That looks like fun!  I have to admit, I'd rather do it on the relatively flat Hilton Head courses.  At my home club, we have about 200 feet of elevation rise from the first tee to the middle of the third fairway.  Its tough enough walking up that, let along pushing a bike too.

This offbeat new option allows golfers to play at the speed of a cart while still getting a workout.

This phrase seems a bit odd to me, though.  Unless you're the only one on the course, you won't play any faster than the slowest group ahead of you.  That's one reason I prefer to walk, it means I'll spend much less time standing at my ball waiting to be able to hit my shot.  Also, for us neanderthals who like to pace off distances from yardage markers, the bike would complicate things.  Even so, the bike still looks like fun.

If you can walk up it, you can ride up it!  So says the mountain biker in me. :-P Maybe not with clubs in tow though.

From the referenced article at post #1:

Built from the ground up for golf, they feature a step-thru frame so golfers can get on and off easily, and hold up to 14 clubs and supplies on racks integrated into the frame. Wide tires and smaller diameter wheels make for easy acceleration with less impact to the fairways than a motorized cart.

Less impact than a motorized cart... I suppose that would me less lbs. per square inch applied to the fairway from one of these bikes than a motorized cart.

This would definitely have to be on a flat course (there are next to zero in my area). Otherwise, you're going to be pushing up a lot of hills. Might as well walk in that case (which I do anyways).

Cool idea though. Would love to see the two person cart go away in favor of something more singular to speed up play.
