Edit: if German Maximillian Kieffer can par the final 3 holes, he will break a tournament record that was set in 1939.

RECORD BROKEN. Maximillian shot 65 to break a record set in 1939.

The current leader from Denmark might break it as well.

Edit:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo, WTF RICKIE!?!?!? He was in the mix, and one hole later....OUT

Rickie with back-to-back snowmans? Wow.

I'm never talking to St. Patrick again. Both Rickie and Paddy snowballed backwards.

Yeah, the weather has been brutal there. Supposed to be a nice summer, though, in the UK. They're calling for warmer and drier than average conditions the next few months, which means things should be pretty fast at St. Andrew's in July. I keep predicting that if the wind doesn't blow there, Rory will destroy that course much like Tiger did in 2000. That being said, I want the wind to blow. That's what makes the British Open the British Open.

The 40 year old Dane, Soren Kjeldsen is on fire, impressive to watch. His putting style is really interesting, can anyone tell if he's posting up on his left arm? If he is, I'm wondering if that will be legal next year.

Yeah, it looks like he braces against his left forearm, similar to Kuchar. That style will still be legal, as I understand.

Remember the Walker Cup, in which Rickie Fowler played on this very RCD course?  After the match he said he loved the course and so this year he came back.  Ha, i bet the Walker Cup was not played in late May.  Maybe September, after the summer snow squalls were over.

Lose 7 strokes in 2 holes?  What's so unusual about that?  Happens all the time round here.

30+ mph winds today. We already have a new leader. No big names at the top, but at least it isn't a runaway.

The top 10 are all flying backwards, really tough day.

I'd love it if a kid like Eddie Pepperell could come out of nowhere and win.

Danny Willett could win this at even par (in the clubhouse)!

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
