What male golfers have a long period of sustained success, outside of maybe 3-5 years? Tiger, Phil, Ernie, Vijay, Rory, Spieth, etc. Most players have their run and then fade away pretty quickly. I don't think it's an LPGA thing.

It’s easier on the LPGA Tour though because of the fields. They’re much weaker.

I agree. But I think my original point stands. I don't think them being women is the reason a lot of their players only have 3-5 years of excellent play.

The more I think about it, you can apply to virtually every sport. Most players have a 3-5 year prime that quickly flames out. Only the really great ones have a full and complete career.

No, I think that the weaker fields means you can last a lot longer with an "A" game. On the PGA Tour, it takes your A+ game, but if you're one of the better LPGA Tour players, you can stay at the top with your A- game.

Thats not quite what i meant, but i know what you mean. It just seems like there are players on the LPGA that win everything under the sun on the LPGA for 2 or 3 seasons then dramatically drop off the map like they never existed. It'd be like Jordan Speith disappearing after his 2015 season.

Race wasn't discussed and the majority of the posts have been about the coaches and their negative influence upon her swing.

I'm dizzy trying to keep up with all her changes, still getting through this. Interesting Leadbetter said she's not the greatest athlete.

And the Leadbettter piece? Self serving and would have been better to keep that private.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Yeesh. Apparently that's what you get when a medical supply company sponsors your tournament.

I'd definitely be putting that in the back of the trophy shelf... with a towel over it... you know, to keep the dust off.

The 3 wood she hit on the playoff hole was amazing.    She had a rough front 9 but a very strong finish.   Good golf

    • Day 171 - 2025-03-20 Got a good 30 minutes in today. A little backswing so it doesn't get too far out of hand, then some downswing stuff. If I'm in a good spot at the top I have a chance even without the best downswing.
    • First day of spring and we had colossal snowflakes here.   The temperature has dropped significantly.   I may not get to golf until mid-April.

    • So to start with I’m 67 years old and just returned to the game a month or so ago after a 30+ year break. . To give you an idea of how long I’ve been away from golf, there were no hybrids last time I got serious about it. I’m enjoying it and seeing gains/improvement every time out. That said, I’m playing with antique woods (Old Taylormade Burners) and since I’m playing with Callaway irons (2004 BBs) I’d like to stick with the brand and upgrade to Callaway woods - at least a driver and a 3 for now.   For a glimpse of my ability, I hit the 3 wood 200 yards and more or less straight, and I think I newer tech clubs might help. Also I’m 6’5” and these clubs are a bit short for me, by 1 1/2” or so.   So looking at the gillions of perfectly fine looking Callaway drivers on eBay I’m completely overwhelmed and under-informed. I’m also doing this on a self-imposed budget since I’m not good enough to warrant new, exotic, pricey stuff and I’m pretty sure anything made in the last 20 years will do nicely.    So given all that, anyone have any specific suggestions on a good/prefered model Callaway driver that can be had for around $50? If I earn better gear by improving my performance I’ll go after it then, get fitted for clubs again, all that. But for now my goal is bogey golf so I’m limiting my golf allowance accordingly.    Thanks, cheers, and happy golfing.  As examples, I’m looking at RAZR, BBII, X460, Fusion FT series, Diablo, etc. and I can’t tell if they are all good and I should just shop price or if one or more are preferable over others. TIA…
