Not sure I agree with this. Mind strength is what separates professional athletes in all sports. Those with short memories, greater will, ability to overcome adversity, etc. I believe it's an innate ability. The world is littered with minor leaguers possessing tremendous physical skills. It's typically the mind that determines true greatness.

I was speaking more to what separates tour players from the average golfer (I said average guy in my previous post) or even from a low handicap golfer, it's not the mental game. Golfers place too much importance on mental game.

Would've been interesting to see comparisons of other players' range vs course swings.

Not only does he try to murder the ball in round, he also appears to be steering it as well at times

Think he is sick of GOLF, the media, the fans, the life. Nothing more important than having a life you enjoy, around people you enjoy. He most likely enjoys his kids, then misses them and the closest person to him at that point is his manager. Who knows what his mom is up too. When or if he wins, who will be there to hug, kiss, congratulate ?

it is the life in a nut shell and he is bored with it, on top of that, he is now fully bald, almost 40... He looks back and wonders, how did I end up here with only a few friends, 2 kids, no wife and so much money, yet, I really do nothing except play golf, manage a huge house I don't need, etc... I just think he knows he made some big mistakes and can't take them back. People expect him to want to be "A GOLF GOD" forever and he may not care about it at all. How many people retire from golf ? If I were him, I would take a couple years off, find love again, don't touch a club and rest...

he doesn't owe anyone person a thing except himself and his kids. Finish out your contracts or redo them for a shorter period. Way too much going on, poor guy....

This is an odd post with how hard he's been working and how excited he was to play well last week.

I kind of thought the same thing.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
