I thought I'd get some range time in this evening, but after work I only averaged 30mph getting out of the city for the extended weekend. Instead, I've been mocking some practice swings with a hangar as the grip; I'm not overly fond of this, but it sure works nicely to keep the motions in mind on days when I can't get to a practice facility and am somewhere where I can't swing a real club (even at slow speeds) indoors.

1.5 hours at the range today. Heavy focus on steady head. I have a tendency to let my chin move towards the target on the downswing and I'm trying to eliminate this. Lots of easy swings and trying to keep my gaze at a spot just behind the ball until after impact. Also spend 20 minutes working on my short game.

Weather was bad today but I squeezed in some time in the net. Just focusing on my backswing length and turn. When it's right it feels shorter and wider. The thought of a steady head sucks you in to leaving it in the same spot and makes me prone to a mild reverse pivot at the top. I have recently purchased a new tablet so I'm going to film my swing to see any tendencies I slip into.

Location 1: half a large bucket

Location 2: a full bucket.

I'm working out some issues with that quirky stupid thing I do at the top. Or rather, that I don't do all the time any more. Just need to get to the point where I can eliminate it. Arrghh, it's so hard.

9/4/15: Before I forget, I did some shot zone mapping, with all my clubs this morning. Also worked on the longer backswing a little more, I still don't quite have the timing, so I'll probably stick with the 3/4ish swing for my semifinal match tomorrow @ 9:30 am... I may do a blog or a thread form update or something like that, as I don't have a twitter handle...

Played 18 today. Shot 96 on a tough course from the back tees. Really worked on putting all of the pieces I have been working on into action. Steady head. Arm alignment at address. Weaker grip. Pretty happy with how I hit the ball. If i can sharpen up my short game and putting, Sunday's round should be pretty good.

Mirror work today.  I made slow back swings focusing on not over rotating my hips.

I TRIED to play today, but the course I went to was in the midst of overseeding, and after only a few holes, packed it in. Before the round, the range. Spent at least five minutes on partial shots (to A2 some, to A3 others) with my 56 and my 7-iron. I was playing pretty decently, other than how hard it was to find a drive in the fairway.

I did slow swings at work today for 15min focusing on my transition from the top, focus was on making sure my right elbow drops at the top to bring the club in on a good path, and then focusing on getting my hips more open before impact which helps me think about getting my arms ahead of my body by impact.

Played 9 and 9 today, 3 GIR and 29 putts. Ironically, I only practiced short game <5% of the time too. My approach game was horrible, drives were horrible, only putting and chipping were passably okay.

Putting on my 36" ruler board.  Worked on "rocking the shoulders".  Hit the center of the back of the ball and imagine driving a nail through to the front of the ball.

Nice leisurely 2 large buckets over 2.5 hours. Setup the rods, cameras, iPad acting as a mirror. Took my time with each shot. A little too much in fact. Practiced my new putting stroke some more, excited about it.

Practiced in my back yard focusing on my new Evolvr priority pieces. Starting the club more to the inside at take away and starting to shift weight

forward even before completing back swing.

Took a (relative) beginner to the course today. I didn't have much of a chance to warm up, so I don't have five continuous minutes' worth of practice, but I was able to work on refocusing -- something that has been a big problem for me for a while -- before each shot, as I was also performing caddy-like duties for someone who wasn't going to break 110. I also played up, tee-wise, and didn't focus on having the best score (such as hitting irons off tees so I could hit my next shot from near my friend to save time), but I did focus on each shot. Amazing how, when I put my mind to it, I can get myself to get back to it and focus only on the target for thirty seconds at a time. That partial round, one where I didn't even bother to focus on score (I accidentally birdied a hole, though, so that was cool), turned out to be some of the best mental game practice I could imagine.

Worked on my new priority piece today, working on getting the takeaway being more inside and inline with my toe line at club parallel to the ground. Hit 20 balls today doing this, still doing the closed face drill to really ingrane the feel.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
