I played at Casperkill Country Club in Poughkeepsie NY (70.0/128) from the whites. Shot 89. Greens were bumpy and couldnt get off the tee. First time out since October so Im happy with it for now

I've been playing pretty solid for early spring. I would say my game is as good now as it ever was during the summer, which gets my hopes up for the level of improvement I hope to see this year. Shot an illegitimate -3 on the front nine of my homecourse to temporary greens in the fairway.

I went and played on Saturday morning with my father-in-law and some of my wife's cousins. It was about 45 degrees, and it was raining off and on. It was pretty nasty, but we were bundled up pretty good.

I drove the ball well, but my short game was awful. The greens were much tougher than I expected, especially with all the rain. They were lightning fast compared to my home course, and most of the greens had runoffs. So you had to put your approach shots in the right place or the ball would run off the green.

I hit a bunker shot on the first hole and it looked great but ran off the green. Luckily for me, I skulled the next chip but it hit the pin. I put in the putt for birdie.

On the second hole, I hit a perfect drive and then hit an 8-iron to about 15 feet. I three-jacked it and the front nine went downhill from there. I even carded a rare quadruple bogey that included a three-chip and three-putt. :/ After all was said and done on the front, I shot a 48.

We played two holes on the backside, and the rains came along with lightning. We headed into town and got something to eat and returned to finish the back nine. I really got things back together on the back nine and shot a 40. That did include about a 30 or 40 footer for birdie.

So I went 48-40 for an 88. I was really happy with the way I finished. My score should have been better, but at least I finished better than I started. That is the lasting impression I'm taking with me.

And besides, the course conditions were less than spectacular for my preferences.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of hole it must be where you can hit from sand (fairway bunker?), chip, and make a putt and still birdie. Unless you drove it into a fairway bunker on a par 5, reached the green in two, and chipped on I can't figure it out. Or did you drive the greenside bunker on a par 4?

played last weekend (yes, stupid enough - both days) in an avg. 32deg with gusty winds. All we could do in these conditions was scramble play - on sunday me and my partner (11hcp) managed 1 under gross score, what, considering, was a great round! Of course with my co-members sand baggers it wasn't enough to make some money, but it was fun.
We putted very well, maybe because thanks to the whole-day flurries the first putting person was leaving nice tracks for the partner

Today was the first day we've been allowed to play from the fairways. Not much growth, well, none actually, to give a decent lie but it was fun not to be bothered with lifting and dropping in the semi at last.
I've been working on my short game thru the winter (developing a very reliable 'left hand below right' technique to overcome my yipps on short chips)
I didn't feel I was striking the ball all that well, but avoided any real danger. My partner and I took the cash, and a countback revealed I had played to seven over, which is 6 under my handicap :)
Can't wait for the 1st medal of the year which is a week on Saturday.

I wasn't going to chime in because I played ugly last Friday but here goes anyway. I skulled a bunch of shots because of poor ball placement (too far forward). I ended up shooting a 47 even with a couple of punch outs and some nasty looking shots. As I look back on the round I scrambled pretty well and didn't three putt once. When I ended up behind a tree I just took my medicine and punched out to a playable position. So, it wasn't a bad 9 holes for me considering how ugly many of my shots were. Plus, no triple bogies which is shocking considering the lameness of my ball striking. Maybe, just maybe, I'm getting a little better, eh?

My course still has temporary greens, so again I applied my 5' rule. Anything outside of 5' I had to keep playing, anything inside was 1 more shot. So anyway... I shot about 75. That's after a not-so-great first nine holes and with two birdies in the closing three holes.

Had the r7 460 out (2 in the heel, 12 in the toe). Didn't hit it that well to start, but then again, wasn't hitting much well. Determined I was laid off at the top around the 12th hole and afterwards played well. Absolutely striped a drive on the 18th - ball hit and flipped back a foot. Probably 20 yards further than my average drive on that hole during the summer, and we were playing further back than normal to help account for the shorter temporary greens.

Also used the RAC TP MBs (the 2006 models) and they felt clunky while I was hitting the ball badly, just as they should . When you hit the ball well with these things, it does a nice, nice job... even in the cold, the irons were going the distances I'd expect. I'm not sure yet how much of the feeling is the irons and how much is the shaft, but we'll see how it goes. As for the distance, I'll have to check the lofts...

Yeah, that would be some all-world birdie if I could pulled that one off. Sorry about that.

Played yesterday. The greens at my home course had just been topdressed 3 days earlier so they were, to say the least, bumpy. I shot 74 with one birdie. I had at least four other putts that were on line and hit aeration holes or little pebbles and made direct turns away from the hole. Hit the ball fantastic (15 greens) which was nice to see because I just weakened my left hand grip and finally saw the change working. Still need to hit a ton more balls in order to get completely comfortable with the feel. No hooks though!

last weekend (still in the high 30's ) was a story of two totally different rounds. Saturday I managed a 3 over par, while hitting 14 greens. All 4 missed greens resulted in a bogey with one birdie. Sunday I hit 10 greens IR... and shot 3 over par my short game was right on, what's nice to see early in the season. The only consistant thing during these two days was the old trusty 510TP off the tee

Shot about a 78 with the temporary greens again. I kept hitting the ball to 7 feet, or 8 feet, or 6 feet, which in my system doesn't mean squat. So I'd try to chip it in (off of fairway) or "putt" it with my driver and I'd miss. So basically, I shot a 78 with a horrible putting round. So, that's not too bad.

I took the r7 425 TP out today. Killed it a few times. Very good driver. Very, very good. I left it neutral because I always fight a cut early in the year (I tend to be laid off at the top a bit early in the year until I work on it), and this thing went where I told it to go. I think the shaft really benefits from putting a hard hit on the ball, because my "bunt" drive didn't go as far as it normally does, but the full out shots (still only 85% or so, my normal drive) was going quite a healthy distance. About the same as the 905S, perhaps a bit more. Tough to say since it's all carry and no roll (or some negative roll if it plops and sucks back).

Finally got out. It was about 44 and misting rain off and on, but its nice to get out. I hit 13 greens and made 0 birdies. It definitely takes longer for the chipping and putting feel to come back than the full swings. Was very pleased with 75.

I played my first official 9holes with my new sticks. First hole Igot an 8. Second hole I got a 7. I birdied 2 par 3's and shot 4 over. Not bad, the sticks felt really good, I had problems with alignment. After the winter, its so hard to get use to the course. The first hole I hit in the fairway, 240 with my 3 wood. Then, hell started. I had 140 to the whole with lots of wind. I tried to hit a knock down. SHANK. Well then I think I had 160 something to the hole. I hit a 8 iron, I flushed it but the wind just threw it back at me. I still had 40 yards left, and the green was protected by bunkers. The sand was so hard, I felt I was destroying my clubs. But I had a quad bogey. The 200 yard par 3 played like 230 yards. I took my 3 iron and just threw it into the air, 30 yards right of the pin, I must have put some draw spin and the wind must of helped me a lot because if the ball went straight, it was in the water. It landed 20 feet from the hole then took the slope to 4 feet, Tap in Birdie, Nice. The other par3 was 150 yards playing like 170, I took a 6 iron, played a little knockdown fade and almost holed it. Man I love par 3's. On the last par 5, I got to 30 feet for eagle. I 3 putted and almost killed myself, jk. So the first round of this year, not bad, but a little promising if things get better. I love par 3's because I think last year I averaged around a 2.4 on par 3's but like a 4.1 on par 4's and par 5.s, like a 5.8. Long distances make me lose control I guess. Also I'm going to send in my swing to let everybody see it. Check the course I played at www.arboretumgolf.com , really nice place. I'm from the midwest so winter just ended and spring started. Today at practice I shot a 40... 6 straight par's a tripple on the seventh and then a three put bogey on 8 and then par to finish it out lol.

Yesterday I played with Doug from cameroncollector.com (and his dad) at a place called Little Mountain just east of Cleveland, OH. Near Painesville.

Anway, this course had greenside bunkers that were 10 yards wide and 10 feet deep in some places, maybe more. One of the greenside bunkers on 18 was at least 15 feet below the putting surface despite being only 10 to 12 feet horizontally from that same surface!

Fortunately I avoided the bunkers until the 16th hole (then found them on 16 and 17). I didn't putt well at all: 32 putts. Shot a 77 on the par 70. Left a few putts short but in the jaws, hit a few other putts way too long (like 25 feet long on a 60-foot putt).

Hit the ball reasonably well. Couldn't get a fade on command with the driver, and that hurt me a few times... I did have three birdies, which is pretty good for me on a course I've never seen before. One was a Tiger-like chip. It was dead straight, not a big U-turn, but it hung on the lip for a second before dropping.
