What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

I shot a 42 today and was Ecstatic!! Of course my handicap is much higher than yours.
Best of the day was 5 G.I.R.! 1 triple, a double and a single bogey, all the rest pars.

Got through 12 holes today. played the best 5 hole string ever for me[holes 1-5, too!]. par, par, birdie, par, birdie. so, -2 after 5 and then the wheels kinda fell off. went bogey, par, bogey, double to finish the front at +2, 39 [par 37]. then went double on 10, birdie on 11, bogey on 12...... 3 birdies in a round [much less 12 holes] is a new record, or ties my best at least, I just need to limit the stupid mistakes!

My course has trees, plenty old big trees and narrow fairways. Looking around a golf shop I found an old second hand #1 iron, I think was about $2. Decided to try this. Brought my handicap down 6 shots to a 10 within a few months. To answer the question;my best shot, the low #1 iron that keeps climbing until it is out of sight. I still cannot hit a driver!

45 on the back 9 (par 35). Two pars, felt awesome.

I didn't keep score but I would guess it was around an 85 on my home course. I was horrible of the tee, had great iron play, great chipping, and half-decent putting.

Shot 84 with a couple of 3 putts . I couldn't hit my irons at all today. But I was driving the ball pretty solid so had alot of chances at the greens.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

Yesterday was my first round since I had surgery to remove a piece of infected bone from my tibia on September 8. I've never been happier shooting 61-62, not bad for me (I'm about a 25-30 handicap) considering I hadn't played in a month, and hadn't even started to walk without crutches less than a week before. I'm probably only going to get to play a few more times before the New England weather shuts down our courses, but I was ecstatic to be back out on a golf course again.

Played 9 holes and did well for my handicap. 6 pars and three bad holes to card a 43. I was 1 over the card after 6 holes just having strung 4 pars together which is my best stretch to date. Tried to play it safe on the short par 4 7th and made a disastrous stroke off the tee which put a series of big scratches in the crown of my 3W Then proceeded to make a series of bad decisions to card a quad bogey. Doubled 8 after blowing a good tee shot and finished with par on 9 after leaving my birdie putt 3 inches short.

I was a bit disappointed that I let the 7th get away from me but on the whole the consistency of my round was very encouraging. Hopefully I can take that form into my club matchplay semi-final next week!

38, one bird and three bogeys, 100% fairways, 55% GIR, 15 putts. Please sir, can I have some more of that!

40, five pars and four bogeys, 71% fairways, 33% GIR, 16 putts. Irons were all over and I spent quite a lot of time on the beach.

72 at Heartland Crossing Golf Links. Even Par! I wish I could have had a mully on two shots on the back nine.

+3 on nine. Putting started off rough, striking was great. Finished the last 6 holes at -1 with a couple of tap-ins for birds. Found every fairway and 8/9 greens.

4/9 GIR (2 fringes, so ballstriking was pretty solid for me)

Game is feeling pretty good. Ballstriking has gotten better, which has led to increased distances. need to work on getting up and down and making some of those 12-15 foot birdie putts.

    • In response to the first question, yes - I have reduced my average score in 9-hole league rounds by about 3 strokes.  As the attached plot chart shows, my high scores decreased and my low scores also deceased.  So I am scoring in an overall lower range. For the second question, I expect to make some improvement next year based on the results I am seeing in my recent practice rounds.  However, I have noticed that "plateaus" in scoring (and many stats) can persist for long time periods and can be permanent.  With advancing age and decreasing swing speed I may be mostly just working to maintain my current skill level.  I do expect a more consistent range of scoring as the result of frequent practice and overall playing experience.

I was lucky enough to travel with Matty Adams, John Maginnes, and Mark Carnevale as well as a great group of Golf Channel followers. I also have played in Canada, Bermuda, and Jamaica.
