What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Had what seemed like the worst 9 hole round ever. I spent 90% of the time in the bushes trying to find my ball. Woke up late, drove to the course, rushed a small bucket of balls at the range and could not hit a single ball if my life depended on it. Between topping the ball, to fat shots and then hitting everything off the toe, I couldn't find my self. If it wasnt for the fact that I would have to walk the remainder of the course to get to the parking lot, I would have quit and gone home. Ended up shooting an 81 with all my O.B. and lost balls. The only thing that went decent was my putting. I had 6 two putts two three putts and one single putt from 25 feet. I think the more I tried to focus the worse I was getting. I would love to blame it on the 20mph wind, but there was just nothing there for me today. I got to let it go and regroup next weekend. Good thing this was just the second time out this season.

This weekend's scores:

Friday 103 - bad drives!

Saturday Club Tournament 107 - bad drives, bad drives, bad drives!

Saturday night - lots of range practice

Sunday 87  (dancing a la dfreuter415, I love this game, too)

82 on a 69.8/128 course. First time playing the course. Really the round should have been a 92. Iron play has just gone to crap. Hopefully the changes im working on will pay off...my compensations dont work nearly as well now :). Thankfully my short game was nothing short of spectacular today. I got up and down from anywhere and everywhere today. Made putts from everywhere...lag putting was great etc etc etc.

Two rounds of 9 at different courses - same day saturday

41 on a 35.1/123 at 3200 yards - no birdies, but a lot of good shots - 4 pars, 5 bogies.  Two of the strokes were penalties including a lost ball that just stymies me, beautiful shot, right club, should have been on the green, but nowhere to be seen.....has happened before on this hole - I wonder if the flag and tree layout causes a rangefinder misread - both times I absolutely nailed the sweetspot on the hybrid.....this usually results in significant extra yardage....

42 on a 36.6/126 at 3450 yards (oops, I meant to pick one tee shorter and read this as 6450, not half of 6900)..... - I played really well still no birdies, but blew up with a triple on number 8 a short Par5 (normally birdie or par) - two balls in the water.  Chipping practice paid off - pretty much 1 over (plus a lost ball) through 6.....4 one putts (should have been 5) due to good pitching and chipping.  Missed a sandy by millimeters (i read the shot correctly and then refused to believe it and changed to a straight putt while standing over it.)

no birdies, even though I'm making good contact and putting MUCH better than ever.  I need to start hitting GIR and this year will be a major breakthrough.  It's so close.  For now, will watch my handicap slowly increase until I get a handle on the new irons.  They are MUCH better and I have more shapeability than ever - but now it's a matter of picking a stock shot and TRUSTING that shape enough to start aiming with that in mind.

92 on a par 72 - 6500ish with 25mph winds. No excuse :-P

Here's how it went: 1 over after 4 holes, 5 over after 8 holes, bogey-par for a while, then par, double, quadruple, triple to close out the day. 2 OB shots, skulled chip, and a partridge in a pear tree... I really had no business shooting 92. I putted out of my mind on the front 9. Sunk two ten footers to save and an eight footer to save. Did have an awful three putt, though.

42-45- 87. Three putts are the death of golf... Shaking off that winter rust. For some reason on the practice green I was fine but on the course some of the holes were not pretty. I was also confusing a few distance gaps with my irons resulting in over swinging pulls. Hopefully this week and another range session with change that.

+17 / 89 yesterday in the rain and moist wind.

+3 / 75 today (my personnal best) in almost same condition, 3x3 putts.

Played a round today and knocked 7 strokes off my game. It was easy. I skipped the 18th hole. Actually, I got rained out

Bah.  Followed up my great first 27 with a 91 on Sunday.  I had two birdies (1& 17).  But I lost my driver consistency and it cost me.  And my short game still isn't sharp.  Double bogeyed a short, easy Par 3, tripled an easy Par 5, and tripled two other holes.  But I don't feel I'm far off.

"Witty golf quote."

Sunday's competition round i was +1 after 14 holes, this was the moment i won my match.

I'm in a good flow at the moment, specially the short game is working, again had a few great up and downs.

I'm seeing glimpses of summer form, but still have a ways to go.  The 9's were flipped today so I played the back first and scored an easy 38 going out, then I fell apart towards the end on the front/inward nine today.   A couple stray drive penalties=4 strokes plus I missed some easy putts coming to the house.  I left the course feeling encouragement because my game is slowly coming back after a crappy winter.

Highlight of the day............I jarred a greenside bunker shot on the fly......LOL    It would have been at least 10' past had it not gone into the cup, but I don't care........

The day started well, birdie the first, pared the next 5, then the storm came in, finished nine with 38, the ninth green had about 1 inch water in places by the time we got there, so it was a wash out for the back nine. Heaviest rain seen in a long time, weather forecaster got it wrong.

I shot an 82 today but my ball striking wasn't up to par, the constant wind gusts didn't help. My wedge play around the greens is what saved me today. I chipped in from off the green for birdie on the par 5 2nd and I was leaving myself make-able putts to save par throughout the round.

Putts - 31

Greens - 5/18

Fairways - 5/14

8 par saves

My old swing(baby draw) is coming back slowly and towards the end I started to strike the ball alot better. Come to find out I was too quick on the take away which was causing me to overcompensate on the downswing and pushing it out to the right. When I slowed that down my little right to left flight came back to me and I was striking the ball the way I use to.  With that fixed my scores should start to lower ;-)

Shot an 84 (41/43) at Prairie Lakes - 71.3/62, 6500

3 putts and crappy iron play killed my day. However, my driver was better today than it has ever been! Thanks to the "How to Hit Your Driver" thread.

Fairways - 9/14

GIR - 7/18

Putts - 35 (including 3 3-putts)

My short game saved the day. I had 10 chips within 10 feet, and 7 of those were within 5. If I had made 50% of my putts in the 5-8' range, I would have broken 80 for the first time since High School. I ended up making 0 putts outside of 5', and even missed 3 within 3'.....that's terrible.

Now that I have my driver swinging good, I need to concentrate on hitting the middle irons.....they hurt my round almost as much as the putting today.

After a very discouraging start to the year, I broke 90. Not only that, it was the first time I've broken 90. I shot an 89. It was a very painful round.

I can't wait for my orthotics to arrive. I could barely walk up the 18th fairway. Do you know how hard it is to hit the ball when your feet are killing you? The back 9 was rotten.

The 7th hole was a charlie foxtrot. I hit a little too much fade on my tee shot and I couldn't see where it landed. I hit my 3W but it didn't look too bad of a line. I couldn't find the ball, so I walked back and hit another one. I really sliced that one off into the woods so didn't bother looking, and hit a third ball with my 5 iron just to make sure I got one in play. So I put my 7th shot about 4 ft from the hole, and I'm walking toward the green and I find my original tee shot. Holy crap! I didn't think I put that much mustard on it. So now I'm back hitting 2, and have a direct shot at the green but I leave myself a very long putt, and this green has been weird lately, so three putt for bogey... down from at best a snowman.

Parred 8, and parred 9. 9th hole was the shot of the day. I had a lob shot onto the green for my 4th, but I looked at it, and picked my landing spot and hit it dead, and the roll out took it in the hole.

And a birdie on 3, making three consecutive rounds with a birdie. All of them on par 4s.

46-42 / 88.  Course was 68.1/118, 6034 yds.  4 pars, 12 bogies, 2 double bogeys.  Fairways 8/12, 36 putts.

First time I've broken 90 from those tees this year, other rounds from those tee boxes have all been mid-90s.  The two holes I doubled are my nemesis holes - #6 is a 382 yd par 4, dogleg left around a lake.  Trouble all around the green - water left and long, cart path and a street to the right, so the only safe miss is short.  #7 is a 525 yd par 5 - pretty much dead straight, but you have to play leapfrog over two waste areas across the fairway.  It's not that difficult as long as you stay out of the waste areas, but I seem to almost always manage to wind up in one (or both) of them.

Today was also the first day of the year we've broken the 100 degree temperature mark - it was a balmy 101 degrees.  That means the golf courses will start thinning out and tee times will be easier to get.  By mid-summer you basically have the course to yourself as long as you don't mind playing in 110+ degrees!
