I'm going to enjoy it while it last...

This weekend I played 36 holes. 69(-3) and 67(-5).
I'm -15 in my last 7 rounds at my home course (70.2 rating, par 72). Roughly a perfect month of golf.

Started with 2 index, now I'm at 0.1 and on Thursday it's going to be around +0.8 witch is going to be the lowest I've ever had. Time to set new index goals, +2 would be amazing for Mid-Am competitions, an even more for Pre-Senior in two years when I will turn 40.

went to train for a bit over an hour and then ran into a friend of mine, just as I wanted to leave (and he just arrived).. we decided to go a 9-hole round and we both ended up not regretting it.. I played 22 stableford points off the back tees and he played 23, including an eagle on hole 3 (par 5).. great round with just a single double-bogie on SI1 for me

86 (44 / 42) at Harbour Pointe today.   One of the most consistent days hitting the ball year to date and an all time best round at this course.  Started off with a triple bogie on 1 and thought I would be well north of 100 by the end of the round.  Settled down to go par (x2), bogie (x5) with a final par on 9.  Nine which is a par 3 which I hit my 7i to within 2-1/2 feet of the hole.  Had a short downhill come back putt for birdie and choked by hitting too easy and having it leak by.  So I was +8 for 44 on the front.  The back started with par, double on a 3 (should have been up and down for par) followed by two bogies.  The last five holes were par - bogie - par (x2) - bogie for a 42 on the back.   Managed to make 9 - 13 fairways, 6 GIR w/4 nGIR.  Interesting stat - had more GIR on the front but did better overall on the back with more up and downs and fewer putts.  Putting was "average" for a total of 36 putts.  It was a day of predictable distances (based the iron play on the distance I was seeing with the 6i at the range while warming up)   My son who was playing with me matched me on the front with a 44 but struggled on the back for a total of  96 (he was also dead tired as he had worked overnight the night before).  It was a good day of golf.

Played a course between L Huron and L St Clair. All day we had lake effect snow squalls carried on 2o mph winds blowing through, The greens would get covered in ice pellets, 20 minutes later they were just wet, repeat. Putting was  impossible, sometimes like rolling up a snowman body section with the ball as the core. Sometimes the greeens were just  soaking wet,. Balls were, lost disappearing mid flight into the wind driven snow. We quit scoring on the back, but I had an even 50 on the front with lots of 3 putts and a 4 putt and two lost ball penalties... . I'd do it again.LOL

Back to Minnesott today, caught a midday round - course was busy.  We had some decent rain last night so it was going to be  receptive greens today.  Shot 90 (45 / 45) consistent and not blowing up, which I see as getting there.  The front nine was all bogies, no more no less.  The back nine started horrible with a triple and double on 10 and 11 respectively.  Settled down on 12 to capture par, picked up two more on 15 and 17 to make it 9 over on the back.  Today used my mixed bag of older clubs - the R580 driver, SLDR 3HL (17deg), TA845s Silver Scots (3i-SW) and Diablo Edge 3h.  It was fun using the older clubs and helped me realize that I can do as good and in some ways better.

Feeling a bit rusty today with an 89 (43/46) on my home course here in Spring Creek, NV.  Course is dry and firm.  Can't wait for everything to green up and become decently playable again.  Going out again on Sunday to hopefully get more into the swing of things, no pun intended.

it was very windy and cold today.. last week I could play with short sleeves and today it was 5 layers again.. at least the snow from yesterday was gone, but those layers make it difficult to swing freely, so I am quite sure this affected my score..

I played a 46 over 9 holes, and i am neither happy nor disappointed with it.. I understand the score and where I lost the shots, but given the wind (clubbed up 2 irons and still ended up short) it's understandable to me

Two more solid rounds in the past week or so:

Tuesday: Played Croasdaile after getting off work and shot a solid 88 (45-43) from the blues. Nothing great, nothing horrible, just a good, consistent round. I did, however, double my last two holes (8 and 9 since we started on the back).

My brother played very well and shot 55-47 from the whites, with two 10s on the par 5s on the front, so he should’ve easily broken 100. But his game’s improving, and it’s fun to watch. I’m starting to experiment a bit: when he knows his score after 9 he tends to fall apart on the back, especially if his front is in the 45-48 range. I purposefully kept it a secret from him until the round was over, and it seemed to work well.

Wednesday: I played Falls Village from the whites (5875 yds, 68.8/123) and shot 87 (45-42). A bit frustrating because I three-putted six times and somehow lost two balls in the middle of the fairway (both on the front). Hit the ball really well though, so I’m not too disappointed.

After both these rounds, my index sits at a 12.0.

Quick 9 holes with the wife this morning.  47.  Didn’t feel good at all.  My play around the greens was terrible today.  Didn’t have a single par.  3 doubles, and 6 bogeys on a par 35.  Painful to look at that scorecard.  There’s plenty of work to do here in the very near future.

Absolutely horrid ball striking day today, thanks to an arthritic spine that refused to be medicated. I couldn't hit a ball over 200 yards at all, and those were crooked. . On the bright side. The M-Craft 3 was superb. Despite numerous putts over 40' and a few over 50', I had no 3 putts. While I didn't make any cross country putts,  My lag putts were all within 3', most within 2' .

Shot 97 on a course I should be in the low 80's at the worst.

Played Pinehurst #1 on Friday last, 38/36, 74 having to birdie the last two holes to do so.  11 fairways, 10 GIR and 30 putts. Fairly windy, gusts up to 18mph that both helped and hurt.

Played #6 this morning, 38/39, 77. 9 fairways, 8 GIR and 30 putts. No birdies.  Played with an elderly gent about 72 (what’s that make me I’m 67 😁). He played the Green tees, it was ok but I felt like a chauffeur most of the round, finding his ball, etc. I guess we all get there eventually.

#8 tomorrow!

My individual score doesn’t really matter for this story, but yesterday was the “Kickoff Classic” at my home course.   Back nine was a Captains Choice after a different format on the front.   Everyone just needed to have 1 tee shot used on the back nine.  First three holes went to my fellow teammates because even though I hit good shots, their shots were better.   Unfortunately I was bad off the tee the rest of the way through 17 and we all realized that we had to use my tee shot on 18.   I was really good except off the tee before then and we were doing well, but the rules stated that we had to use my tee shot on 18.

18 at my home course is OB right and a huge lake on the left.   I pulled my 4 wood and kept my driver in the bag.  I took my time and then hit a lot draw to the 150 marker, which I didn’t know saved us second place.  First place was three better and nothing would have gotten us first at that point, but we definitely could have fallen out of the money.

honestly, it’s in my top 20 shots because although my teammates wouldn’t have really cared, it was a lot on one shot.  The fun we had after that shot landed in the fairway was just great.  Big part of the reason I love this game.   I did dump my second shot in the water, but someone else got us near the pin.

we were solo second.  Team selection was random draw and we were a great team.  Had so much fun, it really makes me happy I picked up the game when I was a kid.

89 (43 / 46) at Minnesott today.  Most of the round was a repeat of the one from last week - bogies on 1 thru 6, par 7, dbl on 8 and birdie on 9 for 7 over 43.  Back nine bogies on 10 thru 13, dbl on 14, bogied 15 & 16, dbl on 17 and ‘almost’ birdie on 18 (settled for par).  Almost birdie is a good story - drive was right and into the trees.  Punched out with the 9i and it rolled to within 2-1/2’ of the pin.  Have that for birdie and end on a high note.  Roll the putt and it lips around about 90deg and out.  Tap in for par.  8 / 14 fairways hit, 6 GIR (new personal best), 40 putts (that was the weak link today).  Sensing that the overall game is on an upswing.

Finally the first few courses around here has opened for the season and I got my first 2 rounds of the season (In Norway) this weekend.

On Saturday I played a great round of 81 shots at Grenland (Par 72, 6350 yards, rating 72,7 & slope 141):

Hole 1 (360 yards par 4) - Pulled the drive 220 yards into the woods on the right, hacked it out to the rough and made a decent PW to the middle of the green that ran to the back fringe. Up'n'down from there. Bogey

Hole 2 (365 yards par 4 - dogleg right) - Hit my 5 iron fat, but straight to the right side of the fairway. Thought I hit a great 2nd shot, but underestimated the wind and ended up i FW 15 yards short of the green. Chip and 2 putts. Bogey

Hole 3 (130 yards par 3) - Hit a soft AW to 15 feet. Bed speed on the 1st downhill putt sent it 5 feet past the cup and I missed the return. 3-putt bogey.

Hole 4  (500 yards par 5) - Hit a fantastic 4 iron 255 yards to FW, and hit another great 5 iron to the right rough just short of pin high on the next. Had to chip it over the greenside bunker (around 25 yards to the pin) and did a decent effort, leaving me with 11 feet for birdie. Needed 2 putts though. Par.

Hole 5 (355 yards par 4) - Hit a fat cut with my 5 iron to the semi rough on the left side that left me with 160 yards and some treetrouble left. Overcutt my 8 iron a bit from there and ended up in the semi rough pin high on the left side. A good shot though. Chipped it to 4 feet, but could not sink it for par. Bogey

Hole 6 (145 yards par 3) - Hit a low cutt into the wind with my PW that left me with 15 feet for birdie. Made the putt for birdie! Great hole!

Hole 7 (510 yards par 5, with hazards and OB in play on both sides all the way to the green and across the fairway at 200-270 yards) Hit a horrible 7 iron in the water to the right from tee. Took a drop around 140 yards out and made good contact with my 5 iron from there, unfortunately I pulled it a bit and ended up in trouble again to the right. Had to hack my way back into the FW from there. Needed to hit a draw to get to the green from there, but hit it straight. Made the up'n'down for a 7 though. Bad hole! Double bogey!

Hole 8 (385 yards par 4) - Smoked a 4 iron 250 yards to FW, AW to 18 feet and 2 putts for par. Very good hole! Par!

Hole 9 (350 yards par 4) - Anothe fat 5 iron from tee to FW, left with 155 yards. Hit my approach 1 yard to far left and bounced into the lake next to the green pin high (a bit unlucky). Made the up'n'down for bogey.

43 shots on the front. A bit of everything really.

Hole 10 (150 yards par 3, 12 yards uphill and into wind today) - Hit a 9 iron that I thought was money, but still ended up just short of the green in the steap hill leading up to it. Good chip to around 4 feet. Tricky downhill putt that where I had to aim a good foot outside the hole, just missed it low and it still ran out 5 feet past the hole. Made the return. Bogey.

Hole 11 (450 yards par 5, narrow, dogleg left and bit uphill all the way to the green) - Good 5 iron from tee. Thinned my 2nd, but it still did the job and left me with 150 yards in. Made a great shot from there and was left with 14 feet for birdie. Made the putt. Birdie!

Hole 12 (380 yards par 4) - It is plenty of space to the left here som I went with driver for the 2nd time today. Low, short banana to the neighbour FW that left me with 210 yards in. Hit a great 5 iron to the right fringe from there and mede a decent chip to 5 feet from there. Managed to miss another short putt. Bogey.

Hole 13 (340 yards par 4) - Hit a great 5 iron that left me with 140 yards from there. Hit a very good AW from there to 15 feet and a very trick pin location (upside down bowl part of the green where everything runs away from the flag). Hit a great first putt that lipped out and settled 1 inch from the cup. Great hole! Par.

Hole 14 (420 yards par 4 - uphill into wind) - Plenty of space to the right on this one so I went with driver again. Another short, low banana, but this time I aimed far enough right so I ended up in the FW with 200 yards left. Hit a great 5 iron to the fringe from there and made the up'n'down. Par!

Hole 15 (150 yards par 3, down hill into wind) - Decided to go for a soft low 9 iron. Felt and looked like money, but ende up in the rough 2 yards short of the green and 5 yards short of the pin. Chipped it to 2 inches. Par.

Hole 16 (510 yards par 5) - Plenty of space to the right (next to hole 14) so I went with driver again. A decent hit, but still way to much cutt left me with 235 left. Smoked my 5 iron from there to the fringe just short of pin high. 10 yards to the pin and mede the up'ndown for a birdie.

Hole 17 (380 yards par 4) - Very tough hole. Decent 4 iron to left rough with 165 yards left. Pulled the approach a bit and ended up 15 yards right of the green. Needed 2 putts the 9 feet my chip left me. Bogey.

Hole 18 (390 yards par 4) - Ok hit with 4 iron, but cutt it too much. Ended up with a bad downhill lie and 160 yards in. Fatted a 9 iron from there and was left with 35 yards. Chipped it to 8 feet and missed the putt. Bogey.

38 on the back 9 is great, with me feeling I played great.

81 total is agreat start to the season, and I still felt I left a lot of strokes out there.

57% fairway - 39% greens and 29 putts! (missed quite a few short ones as well)

I've already forgotten the 92 I shot on Sunday 😛

In the bag: Callaway Mavrik SZ 10,5 driver (X stiff), Cobra King 4 wood (Stiff, 2006 model), Callaway Mavrik irons 4 - P+A (stiff), Cobra King Pur wedges 52, 56 and 60 (stiff) and Odessey white steel putter.  Very happy with the set and the gapping.

Have played 25 holes before today this spring. Weather has been dreadful here. Haven’t hit a ball since March 18 before this evening. So of course our golf league started today. I was dreadful. Didn’t hit many good golf shots. First hole barely hit my drive off the ground. Still had 195 in for my 3rd shot. Hey at least it was a par 5 I guess. Hell I should be happy with bogey. At 2 they are playing a temporary tee. Shortest par 3 I’ve played in a while. Bladed they wedge over the green tho. At 3 I hit the green in reg, but 3 putted. 4 I had ball above my feet on my approach. Aimed right and my 7 iron went dead right 15 yards of the green, short sided. Was a nitemare and a pick up double. At 5, the hole was playing as far as I’ve ever seen it play. Good 5 iron and a bomb of a putt. Birdie. Woo hoo! Excitement short lived tho when I pull hooked my 7 iron approach 20 yards left. At 7 I hit a fat 9 iron short. Then at 8 I dumped a 100 yard approach short right into the trap. 9 I made a 2 putt par…. Better days will come. They always do. Just gotta keep reminding myself that!
