What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Ugh. I shot 53 for nine today, really frustrating since I had a 44 on Wednesday. My big problem (especially on the course I played today) is that I often end up blowing up the first two holes, do somewhat less poorly on the 3rd, and then start playing better. I was +9 after the first three holes today That was without even any penalty strokes!

Oh well, I still had some good shots, and there is always next time!

Interesting 9 hole round yesterday. Shot a 38. Tee-2-green was fantastic (6 of 7 fairways and 7 greens-both missed greens were on the fringe). 7 pars and 2 bogies. 18 putts..nuff said. Greens are still bumpy, kind of like putting on pea-gravel. Yesterday was also the first day with my new flat stick.

Hi all

I shot 91 today in 20ish mph wind :)

I also got my first ever EAGLE! WOOOT!

It was the Par 5 second hole, I holed out with a half-swung sand wedge from around 40 yards! I judged the distance and wind perfectly lol! Shot of my life!

Had too many Doubles today unfortunately, going again tomorrow :D

Today was very good, 37-41=78 in a Miami wind that sometimes seemed like four clubs.

I hit 3 balls on the range and they were so flush I quit immediately. Luckily it carried over to the course and I played beyond my current capability for most of the front nine.

We've had some rain the past few days so the greens were softer and some of the chips shots not as impossible.

Today my key was going back to my old trusty Cobra oversize 17 degree driving iron whenever it was 195-215. That's always been my best club in terms of sweet spot contact. Lately my 7 wood has not been as cooperative.

I simply have a much better chance when that driving iron is in my hands, although I don't get as much height off the turf as a few years ago. On #18 I was 214 out in light rough on the left side of a long par 4, strong wind left to right with a lake fronting the left side. I trusted the driving iron and hit a nice line drive that found the right greenside bunker, about 30 feet from the pin. Not great but the chances of equalling that with a hybrid or fairway wood were almost nil.

3 putted the first 3 holes today : (

really took the wind out of my sails. later missed a 4' birdie and then threw in another 3 putt for an 81. although i did hit a par 5 in 2 for the first time in 60 rounds. i'm not a long hitter, maybe 235 avg. ok, that's a lie. it was about 18" off the green on the fringe. but goddammit, thats close enough!!

I shot an average round of 85 today. The front 9 was one of my worst played in recent memory. Shot 46 on the front. (10 over) The back 9 was my best 9 I have ever played. 3 over for a 39. 1 birdie and 4 bogeys.

I also hit my first drive over 300 yards! And it wasn't even a tail wind or downhill... or cement.

shot an 81 today... so damn close to breaking 80 :(
44/37
started off the back cuz the greensguys were tending the front this morning
driving was terrible... only hit 5 fw's all missed to the right
approach shots were money... lots of 1 putts...
absolutely no bunkers or water... very few chunks that went relatively straight... great misses at least they advanced to the hole... all in all... besides it being kinda cold out... i had fun

Pulled out an 25+ year old Wilson Staff 8813 putter today and had my pro put on a new grip. Went out and shot a 1 over 73 today. Putted very well. I have been putting with a belly putter but just needed a change. I putted with a blade putter as a kid and this sure made me feel like a kid again. Going to keep it in the bag for awhile.

It will probably feel like a shoval next time I play.

Played another Florida course today,Lake Orlando, shot a 92 in a stiff breeze behind 4 of the slowest golfer's I have ever seen. Making my self slow down and learn patience. Nice course, priced right just way to crowded and all the groups where extremely slow. But it beats work.

I shot a 138 today. 70 on the front and 68 on the back at Rivers bend golf club in Chester Virginia. I figure if I could get some feel for the short iron shots, I could get it down to the 110's...

    • If you own a Stack radar (for now, it's limited to Stack radar only), and want to work on your wedge game… it turns out that wedge distances are 99% correlated to ball speed. So, with a small radar, you can practice your wedge game easily in a gamified way.
    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
