I played the tips at (7617 yards)  Koasati Pines today in Kinder, LA and shot a 80 with no birdies.  It could have been so much better!  I had 5 birdie putts 15 feet or closer and miss three 4ft putts to save pars.  I didn't make a putt outside of 6 feet.  It was a really frustrating day on the greens.  Other than my putting I played pretty good.

Shot a 100 at some random course in SC today. Three putted almost every hole, played horrible...

I got in a twilight 9 yesterday evening and shot a 42 (par 35) with a triple bogey 7 on a very short par 4.The putter really let me down today. I had 3 putts at birdie that were under 10 feet and only hit the edge on one of them I even 3-putted for bogey once.

Stats......5 of 7 FW and 4 GIR,  4 pars, 4 bogies, and the disastrous triple, 17 putts

First golf of the year on a pretty empty course.  Shot 47 (12-Over) on the front nine and because the back nine was busier and the front nine open played the front nine again and shot a 41. Too many big scores on the first nine but only one 6 (bogey on a par five) on the second trip around. No birdies all day but enough pars to feel ok about the first round of the year.

Had a bad case of the lefts (and more left) with my irons and a topped shot on the first nine. Second nine was better except for a couple of trips into the left trees with the driver. Honestly putted and chipped much better than I expected after the winter lay-off.

Had a hole in one yesterday at our 114 metre 14th. 5 iron into a strong head wind. That's ace number 4.

Shot 112 today at the same course I shot a 107(I think) at last week. I was really disappointed with my performance as I had believed I could break 100 this time out. I was just taking my eye off the ball pretty much every time I think. Oh well, little more range time this week and I should be in better shape. On the bright side, I lost less balls this time!

Shot a 95 yesterday, not happy at all. With how I was driving I should I have been in the low 80's. Its amazing how one part of my game is great and the rest goes to hell. I can ever seem to get all of my game great at one time lol. I was hitting fairways and driving the ball 275-300. But my short game was horrible and I couldn't get out of the sand to save my life, which I'm usually very good at (4 wasted strokes in the sand). Very frustrating, but I'm hoping next time my driving game is just as good and the rest of my game picks up.

I forgot, we also played from the back tees, not a huge difference but I think with how I was driving it would have been at least a 5 stroke difference.

Had a great round on Friday afternoon a scored my first 80's.   41 on the back and 48 of the front.  Hope to get out tonight and see if I can keep it going.

Shot 34 on the front nine at Whispering Woods. Played the blue tees so the differential is only -1.2 (35.5/142). 7/9 GIR, 15 putts (two-putted for birdie on #3), 2/2 UD, 5/7 fairways.

Shot 97 today, had 4 bad holes (all triples), looking back, had 6 balls I hit poorly that cost me probably 10+ strokes overall.  Moderately windy (10-25mph) but that didn't affect me too much, happy to have 5 rounds in already this year, just need to start working on my putting.  Stayed after and putted for 15 minutes before I had to head to work this afternoon.  I did make several great swings with my new driver on the back 9, just felt perfectly in-sync and didn't feel like I was trying to kill it.......now if I can just figure out how to get less R arm and more L arm into my swing....

Played 9 holes today, was a windy and chilly day. Started off a little rough, been a bit since I've swung with my jacket on and I wasn't swinging well so the first couple holes were ugly. Sun started to come out, took the jacket off, started swinging much better. Came up to the 7th hole, a 599 yard par 5 with water down the right side. Never reached in 2, came close, but never in 2. Today the wind was helping a good amount, hit my drive very well, center of the fairway about 310-315 out, second shot was a hybrid that landed short right, about 60 yards out in the rough. Took out the 60*, hit a very nice shot that hit on the front corner of the green, and slowly trickled in for an Eagle. First of the year, and first ever on that hole. Went on to shoot a 43 (+7).

Got out yesterday (finally), first full 18 holes of the year.  Just got new irons (switched from 4* upright to standard lie) and been working at the range a fair amount.  Hit the ball pretty solid, good driving.  Shot an 84, not horrible considering the conditions of the course, sanded greens, etc.

Played Eaglescliffe today for the first time, stunning course and the greens were in excellent condition for this early in the season. Very windy and intermittent rain, scored 36 stableford points and that was with 4 holes I didn't score on, had 2 birdies, the first on the 13th par 3, 1ft away from the pin off the tee. I had a fair few 1 putt holes and no 3 putts which is good, the new fatso grip is working well.

94 today. 43 on the back, 51 on the front. 2 really bad holes on the front kept me from breaking 90. Only one 3 putt today, so there's that.

Second straight 71 at Casselberry! 36-35-71. Greens were horrible - they had aerated & "top dressed" them. More like they glommed beach sand on them & didnt roll them. Consequently I couldn't make a putt. First hole (par 5) I hit a SW to a foot & made an 8-footer for 15 for par. Outside of that, it was just impossible to make anything. Fortunately, tee to green is was super-solid. it 13 GIR. If the greens were even halfway puttable, it woulda been a 67.

In two rounds, my handicap has dropped form 7.1 to 5.9.

98 at Cedar Creek NJ. :/ On a positive note it was better then work. Also I finally fixed my HORRIBLE slice I've been playing with the past month and a half. Thanks Phil

    • Day 569 - 2026-04-23 Played ten holes. Hit about three good shots, but only one with the old left wrist stuff. The rest were just peelers to the right because the face was open. So, progress.
    • Day 245 4-23 worked on slight cup in backswing and arching in downswing. Having a slight cup in my backswing makes a big difference for me right now. Hit foam balls, recorded swings.
    • I am wondering if this is worth asking ShotScope (the company) about.  I have been thinking of my short game a bit and looked at my statistics.  Compared to a 10 handicap (I am a 10.9 as I type this), past ten rounds, I am losing 0.06 in short game.   That's close enough that I want to look at myself now compared to a 5 here.  Losing 0.55, that tracks, and now I want to see where. From the rough, I'm gaining 0.03.  Cool.  From the fairway, I'm losing 0.13 ; some practice and being more certain of my quarter and half swing distances will shore that up I think.   Bunker, -0.45;  I could have guessed that.    I have one greenside bunker shot per round average (if I'm reading this correctly) in the last ten rounds and it appears it wasn't a particularly good shot (when I won my flight of my club championship a few years ago, 54 holes stroke play, I hit into zero bunkers the entire tournament;  that's my favorite kind of bunker play).  That's cool, and I love the drill from LSW about long bunker shots.  And I do try to prioritize not hitting into bunkers, and when I'm in one, my goal is get out to where I can two putt or, failing that, to where a decent putter (which I strive to be soon) can two putt.  Getting up and down is a bonus, and I haven't holed out from a bunker in over 15 years.    And then we have distance, where every short game range outside of 10 yards, I'm losing to the 5 handicap, and not gaining all that much inside 10 yards.   10-20 yards is the most concerning, at -0.30.  My quarter 58-degree is 20 yards, so these are more touch shots, something I don't really practice (I have a few estimates for what eighth shots do, which I don't have a better term for other than "using this wedge, imagine it's a long putt motion.") I wish I had a grid:  for each distance gradient, for each short-game lie type, how's my SG?  Are my losses primarily a bunch of bad bunker shots with some decent-to-good not-bunker shots or do I have some distance from the fairway/rough where I have plenty of room for improvement?   This isn't quite the joke about Game Golf telling me to improve at 25-50 yard shots from the other to gain 0.2 strokes per round, but something in between is what I'd like to know.
    • Day 15, April 23.  I have spent over an hour hitting balls today in my practice area;  primarily 6-iron, the usual drill.  I have noticed that when I take a backswing and check the mirror, I've stopped well short of parallel, but when I record it, I'm getting to parallel.  Maybe something quantum is going on?
    • The last episode with distance wedges reminded me I really need to dial in mine.   I was looking at my strokes gained: approach data, which in ShotScope is 50-225+ yards.  Compared to a 10 handicap (I'm a 10.9 as I type this), last ten rounds, my only area in strokes gained: approach where I'm not gaining over a 10 handicap is 50-100, and I'm considerably worse from 50-75 than 75-100  (-0.37 v -0.14).  Compare the same range to a 5 handicap, and I have two ranges from outside of 100 where I'm at -0.04 and -0.01 (which does NOT bother me;  I'm sure I'll be fine in those before I start really getting to the point of challenging the 5 baseline), and also the 50-100 are the only ones where I'm losing more than 0.04 to a 5 handicap.  The thing is, I think I'd have known something was up even without the data, but I'm glad for the data.  I'm pretty sure that what I think of as a half swing with my PW is about 50 yards, and the same swing with my 9-iron is about 65.  I could probably do 75 or so, same swing, 8-iron.  My gap wedge is 85-90 yards on a "full swing" (I don't take a full swing with 9 on down, I flight, something I think I got from Erik years ago) and I think a similar swing with the 54 goes 75.   I also think my worst full swing clubs are the wedges.  Maybe my next Skillest lesson, I should add a video of me hitting a full swing gap wedge (in addition to normal lesson recordings) and ask about it.  Back to the topic.  The episode discussed some practice-at-home for those shots, and I should go back and listen (and then get what I need for that).  I've been thinking of revamping my home practice area, maybe getting some sort of launch monitor for home (although that may necessitate moving the practice setup to the garage, which maybe I should do, and then I could hit driver and fairway woods too).  Maybe I'd be getting that to practice my partial wedges;  I wonder how many people buy launch monitors for that purpose.
