I saw some good golf but not my game.A couple of old guys were tearing the cover off the ball.

Shot a 55 on the first 9 and decided to consider the 2nd nine practice. I can't seem to get my score down despite some really good shots. Today I hit two greens with my 5 iron at 165yds and came very close using woods off the fairway on two others. Did really well setting up on every dog legs regardless of which club I used. Yesterday my short irons were working well. I dropped the ball 2" from the hole with an 80yd approach wedge shot and it wasn't a surprise. It just felt good at that point of the round. I believe all aspects of my game are improving but just not on the same day. So any improvement is not showing up on my scorecard. I just have to put it all together - long, mid, short game and course management. Or I'm just full of #%$. Still enjoyable when I look back on the day.

I have a question - does anyone shoot better/worse when walking the course as opposed to riding a cart?

Shot my best round yet last sunday. Went roundbin 85, just 1 birdie. Very similar to jonMA1, I feel my game is improving vastly, just not all on the same day.

My first time out this year was about 3 weeks ago and i shot a 103. Didnt think it was too bad since it was the first time i played the course.  The name of the course is Tom's Run for those of you from the western Pennsylvania area. Yesterday i shot a 105 at a local course (Chetremon). I had my first birdie of the year on the front nine and shot a 53. Then i started the back nine with par, par, bogey and thought i might be back in the 90's, but then i went 7,9,6 on the next three holes and finished with a 52 on the back. Im going out again tomorrow morning to the same course and hoping to improve on the 105 and get back in the 90's

Shot under 80 for the second time (a 78). Again it was my driving (11 of 14 fairways) that set it up. My new swing thought with driver was to relax the left hand grip pressure slightly as I accelerate down, resulting in better release and no blocks to right. Made two consecutive birdies on the front nine, one from putting it in from the fringe and another from sticking it to 4ft with a full LW to a sharply elevated green. Golf is so much more fun from the fairway ....

Had 35 points today in nasty windy/raining conditions. It was the best score for the day but only a couple of people turned up. Driver let me down, not behaving like it has the last 3 rounds. I lots about 5-6 shots over 18 just by having to chip out of trouble from my drive.

Finally broke 50 with a 47 on the back nine. No mulligans or rule infractions. I missed shooting under 100 because of a 55 on the front. Wedges - which were always the best part of my game - have been very spotty lately especially the high lobs.

Anyway, to most of you these scores are high but it was goal of mine. Picked up a lot of usable info from posts on this site. So thanks to the other members and staff.

Played my local course again this morning and shot my best round so far this year with a 101. Broke 50 on the back nine with a couple pars and my second birdie of the year. But I had a snowman following the birdie and ended up shooting a 47. Would have been nice but I shot a 54 on the front nine.

Shot an 86 on Thursday. My God, the rough is brutal this time of year. If I missed a fairway by even a few feet it became an Easter egg hunt. I only missed four fairways but I doubled each one of them. Otherwise, I played great, but couldn't make any birdie putts. I had 4-5 legit chances.

Shot 89 today off the white tees at my local golf club.

Out - 43: 1 birdie, 2 pars, 4 bogeys, 2 double bogeys, 19 putts (2x1 putt, 4x2 putt, 3x3putt), 1xFIR, 1xGIR

In - 46: 2 pars, 3 bogeys, 4 double bogeys, 17 putts (2x1 putt, 6x2 putt, 1x3 putt), 0xFIR, 2xGIR

- Couldnt hit a bloody FIR even if it was right in front of me!

- Got the 7th birdie of my life today :)

- Matched my one put record today with 4 in total but more importantly kept instances of playing ping pong down to only 4 three putts!

- The real test will come on Monday when I get out for the bank holiday weekend competition. Id be happy with shooting high 90's or even low hundreds!

- Got some lovely photos of the sun setting this evening too :)

This winter has been an absolute hell in the Kansas City area.  We just had snow again on May 2nd. (thursday)   I played today and posted my first official round for handicap purposes and it was a brutal struggle.   73.2CR 141Slope.........84= (8.7diff)

The course was sloppy wet and the fairways were plugging.  Most of my tee shots backed up and the course played like it was 6 miles long...LOL  I hit 3-wood into 3 par 4s!!!!!!!! (parred 2 of them)  I had 4 double bogeys and 3 were due to bad tee shots.  The other was due to bad short game.  I'm struggling with distance control on approaches.  I'm hitting extra club into holes and coming up short.  When I finally club extra to compensate, then I go long!!  LOL    The story of my day is coming up short on the front pins, and flying over the green at the back pins....(not a good combo)  When I finally make a nice chip after missing a green, I miss the short par saving putts.   I hit several crisp irons today, but the results were bad anyway due to distance control issues.

Overall....my game is pretty rough right now.  I did make 2 birdies today, so at least there is a glimmer of hope.

Best round of my life today.  Could have been better. Had a GIR on 8 & 9 and 3 putted both, and sucked on 18.  I'm totally stoked that I shot an 86, and even more stoked that I probably should have shot an 82.

88, my second best round ever and the first time ive broke 90 in a long time. The lessons just seemed to click today. Tighter course then I'm used to so I fought the driver a bit but hit nice irons and my wedge was just on today.

Officially my best score ever, also accomplished one of my 2013 goals of breaking 90! I'll revisit that thread to make sure I update my goals. Course was nice, but lots of short-ish (but tight) par 4s that let me take my 4i off the tee. I've been working on the straight fade with the driver, and it was really good to know what my miss was and play into that. Shot at the middle of the green all day. Could have done with better lag putting, I was over 2.5 putts per GIR. REALLY liking playing better golf. It's amazing how good it feels to hit GIR.

    • Day 9 - (9 Jun 26) - Weekly nine hole session with my good friend, I played again from one set of tees up from my usual (set up the bag 4h, 6i-Pw, Gw, Lw) to focus more on iron play in the approaches (esp longer ones on the 4's and 5's).  Used the hybrid for tee shots only, had to play irons in from there on....made for a great work on course management and dealing with iron shots I normally don't see.  Key focus was on keeping ball in play, playing to distances that set up for either GiR or nGiR's.  Played a split nine (5 on the front, 4 on the back - the turn works nicely as both nines turn and run parallel coming in - easy to jump from 5 to 15 (especially when the course is not busy)).  Worked with my friend on his course management skills - offering thoughts as a "caddie" might and helping him to confidently choose and execute the shot he was seeing.
    • Interesting that you post this - was playing today with my good friend in our typical weekly nine-hole round.  He has a lot of chatter in his mind, most of the time, yet today was much improved.  Yes, he went through a number of swing thoughts (like the ones highlighted), but then you could almost hear the switch click off - it was like when I shot the distance, and said its "X yards", he confidently said "this club should cover that..." and made his shot most of which were nicely rewarded.   Came away shooting one of his best nine-hole rounds ever.  For me, I do have thoughts  - not in terms of negotion but rather evaluation.  What is the wind doing?  Is there trouble - left, right, middle - not that I am a great fader or drawer of the ball?  Where is the better landing spot/zone?  What is my target window and what in the distance helps me see it?  I wonder if the "negotiation" is more about not understanding "typical distance for a given club (carry and roll)" and more about remembering how that flushed 5i that went and went or how the 4i that can get there with but not reliably or accurately.
    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
