Is it just me that I consider all < 3ft putt misses as bad luck?   ;-)

Yes. Those are equipment failures. My former Odyssey putter suffered the Garcia toss after it missed a 2 foot birdie putt.

It's just you, I'm not that unlucky. :-D

That's it.  I am making a voodoo doll with your likeliness.   I will be poking its hands with sharp object right around when you are playing golf.  That will make you believe in bad luck.  Good luck to ya.

In my heart I know that bad & good lucks even out over time.   Sometimes, it just feels like I am the most unlucky golfer on planet.

Mine is due to bad luck.  My new fitted putter is perfect.  The hole was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Ouch! I'll have to do likewise, then. :w00t:

It's funny, but I don't remember much in the way of bad luck, only the fortunate bounces. Last week I had two horrific shots - a badly pulled hook and another that could only have been a shank. Each hit a tree trunk and shot 90* back onto the fairway. I'm not talking about a shot that isn't that far off line that brushes the trees and takes a slightly favorable glance. These shots had no business being anything but out of bounds. There's really nothing to feel good about when that happens.

I guess hitting a ball that should be easy to find but isn't, could be considered bad luck. I'll get those now and again. But really, losing sight of where my ball comes to a stop could be considered something other than bad luck.

Oh my, putting the hex on the Blackhawk's....

That sometimes works in reverse.

Sometimes it tough to beat those that are destined in fate.... Or, just a damn better teams than their opponent...

Same here, no bad breaks really come to mind but I do remember getting lucky after hitting some bad drives.

Do others believe what my wife and I believe after watching so many golf tournaments on TV?   Our theory is, the eventual winner always seem to have more luck than the rest in that particular tournament.   In fact, we believe "being lucky" is big part of the winning formula.  :-D

Yes  thats exactly how it works pretty much everytime.Your not gonna see a winner in any tourny get bad breaks. The bad breaks are saved for the others.Takes more than skill to win.

I have a golf buddy I've played with for 25 years. He is a very lucky golfer, I'm the opposite. I'd say 95% of rounds I would get more bad breaks than good breaks.

But I put it into perspective, I've been very lucky in life. My buddy on the other hand not so..

This is kind of a fun topic. I remember once having that "bottom of the cup thing".

I was playing in my company golf outing, I don't remember exactly what year, but it had to be in the early to mid-90's. I remember I was using PING Zing irons. (I loved those irons). Anyway, I didn't want to, but do to a random foursome draw I had to play with the owner of the company.

So, It's a short 110 yard par-3. Because it was an outing, of course we had to wait for the green to clear. I hit first, a 9-iron into the wind, very high, steep descent angle, sure enough the ball lands in the hole on fly, bounces off the bottom of the cup, pops out, ends up less than a foot away.

At first I thought it was a lucky break in a way. Paying for drinks for a company outing could have gotten expensive. I would have had the entire foursome in front of me, plus my group as witnesses. I thought it was also a bit of a lucky break, because I figured I was a guarantee to win closest to the pin. For which, I would have won a new putter. ... BUT ... HERE'S THE UNLUCKY PART: I find out later, somebody got inside my shot. The owner of the company's son, playing after us, got a couple inches closer. Turns out his ball hit the marker sign thingie that showed where my closes to the pin was. The sign stopped his ball from rolling away and ended up about 2 inches closer to the pin than mine. That was bad luck.

Overall I think we just put more attention to bad luck and kind of ‘expect’ the good because we deserve it. We tend to think we get screwed more than lucky because claiming luck diminishes our accomplishments.😁

other than the typical biride-put lip-outs or bad bounces the only really memorable instance of bad luck that I remember was hitting a sprinkler-head next to the green which caused my ball to bounce into the out-of-bounds (water) behind the green..

a friends shot went into the hole, but the ball jumped back out again, which was the worst case of "bad luck" that I've seen on the course so far..

cheers Chris

Same thing.  Short par 3.  Hit a sprinkler head on the front edge and wound up in the woods behind a large oak.  Had to chip out from behind it.  Carded a triple after landing no more than 12-14 feet from the pin.
