I have given it more thought.  What about swing mechanics.  Is it not true that what we feel as golfers may not be what is happening in reality?  A caddie spots you out of position somewhere in your swing.  How does that factor in? You could not have seen that yourself. Right?

What's your point? He can tell you after he replaces your divot. Just like if you line up poorly… he can tell you after the shot.

We were just using the logic of "something the player can't do for him/her self" as our rationale for why this is a problem.

I don't know, basically we are just back to "we don't like it." Whatever, I have lost interest since it is a semantics argument. I will likely never have a caddie anyway.

I and others have given you justifications for our opinions. They don't include "we don't like it."

I personally feel that part of the skill involved in golf is being able to properly align yourself. It's a fundamental part of golf, similar to having a solid grip and decent posture, that shouldn't be trivialized by having a caddy looking down your line to make sure you got it right.

I always felt that caddies lining players up was similar to having a child being dressed by their parents. That child can go do the stuff afterwords on their own, with supervision, but they aren't capable of the basics themselves.

Getting a little silly now aren't we?  There is a pretty clear difference in saying something to the player after the swing which in no way could help him make THAT swing, and lining up a player, which affects the swing to come.

I voted yes. As far as I'm concerned, golf isn't a team sport. it's individual. I realize a few of the pros talk in "we" terms but I think that is more of consideration for the team behind them, offering support and training. I don't have an issue with discussion of club selection etc but actual aiming of putting stroke should be on the golfer.
