OK, as s bonafide "golf enthusiast", I confess that I dream of golf at night, and daydream during the day when bored. Do you dream as well? Come on, tell the truth, we are your FRIENDS, for God's sake!

The columnist in my magazine, "The Golf News", is writing one of his best works, entitled "Sleep Deprivation as a cause of the yips".  I have scheduled that for our April issue. Once again, we will sell-_out! His name, as you know, is "Professor Golf", and I think his academic credentials are suspect.

I have one recurring nightmare. I am over my ball, getting ready to make a 20' birdie putt to win the Senior Men's Club Championship against  the Gray Fox (John. Michael U.). As the ball rolls toward the hole, it is RIGHT ON  TRACK! I am ready to give my rousing VICTORY SPEECH, when that white orb stops st the edge of the damn hole and does NOT drop. Infuriated, I take my putter and SMASH that SOB into "Kingdom Kome"! Then, I stalk off the course, never to return! The members forever talk about this jarring incident. The Oldest Member tells the young players, "Remember the advice of our King (Arnie) NEVER leave a putt SHORT!"

I believe most of us have dreams at night.  Some may even involve golf.

No I only dream about stressful things that will keep me up after dreaming, like work. Some nights so bad it feels like I am at work.

I think anyone who plays the game and takes it at least somewhat seriously is going to have dreams about it. I certainly do. Putting has pretty much always been my Achilles heel, and it seems like most of my golf dreams involve putting in one way or another, virtually always on the negative side. I remember one where I had a tap-in to win the club championship and I couldn't pull the trigger. I stood over the ball until it got dark, and everyone else stood there, too...isn't it weird how dreams often involve absurd situations?...once it was pitch black, the bastards DQ'd me.

Wish my dreams were about a shaft and a hole ... but that's much too Freudian.

When I want to get sleep, I will review my swing in my head, imagining each movemenbt/pattern ... it usually does the trick. I'm sometimes out before the follow-through.

I agree with you.  If something is important to us, it invades our brain at night, and plays havoc with it.  It makes for a restless night. That reminds me of the time that one of the reporters said to the Haig, "You know ---------you are here at the bar, and your opponents are in their hotel rooms, sleeping".  The Haig replied, "They may be in bed, but they are NOT sleeping! He was the consummate competitor who played mind games with his opponents (unlike some young people today who resort to trash talking)!

Cant say I have ever dreamed about golf that I can recall, even though I sleep well enough to dream just about every night.

Would the cart girl count as a golf dream? Her name was Rita, but thats another story.

I can't recall having any nightmares about golf. I am sure I have dreamed of golf but off-hand I can't recall any story about such a dream. Then again I can't recall most of my dreams unless it is right after I wake up, the dream was a nightmare or it involved something a little more tantalizing.

If I dream about golf it's unfortunately an "anxiety" dream. Where I'm in situations where I have to tee off and I haven't warmed up or I don't have my clubs or I don't have any golf balls. This maybe happens twice a year.

not so much dreams.  I do have reveries, day dreams, repeat things almost like counting sheep, just after reading, turning out the light and then I review a particular shot. Most times, lately, it is a 137 yard beauty of a 29 deg hybrid  shot to 8 inches from the pin. Tapper birdie. In my minds eye it is an embodiment of George Knudson's swing motion and ball flight. Probably the most technically perfect shot, for me, ever.  Never get tired of seeing the shot and hearing the sound of the club striking the ball.

My golf daydreams are always pleasant, but I have never had a good golf dream - impossible shots, can't move my arms to swing, on the first tee and don't have my clubs, etc.  Not sure why since I still enjoy myself when I have one of those "days".

When I can't sleep I replay some of the high-lites of my recent golf outings. I replay some of my best drives, pitches and chip shots. That always puts me to sleep when I find I am having a hard time getting to sleep.

I do the same or I walk through an imaginary round. Way better than counting sheep.
