Golf can be and is an expensive addiction and if it's your only addiction then the money you shell out for that single addiction could be more than a person having more than one addiction. Some people have a car addiction while someone else may have an addiction to gun collecting, hunting or fishing, etc. I know I personally have more than one addiction, therefore my dollars have to be divided between my two or possibly three addictions.

Are any of you like me, addicted to more than one sport or hobby

I play guitar spent a bunch on that but its free now. And I play in chess tournaments but I win money about 30% of the time. I do have some guns as well but golf is number 1 now behind guitar. And I live 30 minutes from a free golf course in hermitage pa . but I still spent a lot on golf. I tend to allow myself one big purchase a year for my hobbies. But with work there's not enough time for them all.

I'm with @SavvySwede; most of my other hobbies are cheap anyway.  I'm trying to get re-addicted to the gym anyway, and I pay for that whether I go or don't.

As for expense layout, I have two entries in my entertainment budget:  "golf" and "other."

Golf is not my most exspensive hobby/addiction. Road trips at 7.5 to 9.5 miles per gallon don't collide well with my wallet. At an average of $2.50 a gallon for fuel, it gets a bit pricey when we pile on the miles.

Last week, I played 3 rounds of golf. At my home course's walking rate, that was a round $50.00. That same $50.00 might get me 200 miles down a flat road.

My least exspensive hobby is hiking.

The way I golf is pretty cheap.  I have a set of mostly used clubs that I bought 4 years ago.  I rarely pay more than $20 for a round.  I take about 3-4 lessons per year and spend about 50 bucks a month at the range . .max.

Golf is a distant second to my fishing hobby, in terms of expense.  I spend tons of money every year on fishing trips and gear for fishing trips . .not to mention the gear I go through at home.

I really can't fit more than 2 hobbies in my life right now so that's about it except I do (sort of) collect cheap knives.  I play guitar and other instruments but haven't really had to spend any money on that in years.

Generally speaking illegal addictions are way more costly  Golf is more affordable than others and probably more healthy for you

My main addictions over the years have been the 3 g's -golf, guns, and guitars. I haven't had time for the guns much lately, and the only cost in that is ammo since I really haven't added hardware in several years. A box of ammo costs almost as much as 9 holes of golf and lasts about 1/10 the time. I don't own but a couple of guitars; bought a fairly nice one about 4-5 years ago and the only expense is strings.

With golf, my most addictive thing lately has been acquiring persimmon or laminated maple woods and the occasional forged iron. The irons aren't much of a problem, but I seem to want every decent wood I see. The good thing is they are usually less than $10. I am up to about 25 I think, but less in all of them than a new driver would be, so it is a livable addiction.

When I ad a new gun to my collection, it usually costs more than my entire golf set, shoes included. For me golf is the cheaper of the two.

Fishing guns and golf unfortunately all spring or warm weather sports. I love trout smallmouth fishing and competitive rifle and pistol shooting.

I've got the same duel addiction. Guitars (that includes amps and pedals) and golf. luckily the outfit I work for has a welless benefit which has reimbursed me partially for gear over the past 7 years for my addictions lol. This year they are gonna finish paying for last years irons/wedges I got made for me.

Add me to the golf, guns and guitar list.

As for clubs, apparently I have a thing for Hogan Radials. I have a couple sets and am always on the look-out for more. I still have my Adams A4's and another off-brand set to go along with the Mizunos.

My gun collection is a bit light right now because I gave both centerfire rifles (243 and 308) to my sons. I will likely replace the 243 by next Fall. I also reload ammunition.

My guitar collection includes a Carvin solid body and a Guild Starfire IV semi-hollow body electric.

I went past acquiring and into building amps and pedals. I guess it's the engineer in me. After 3 amps and 9 pedals, I had to stop! Too much! I sold one of the amps and gave most of the amp building stuff to a friend of mine who is addicted along with his musician son.

I have not moved into making clubs or changing shafts yet. I like understanding golf technology, but I am more obsessed with playing better.

wha...??????

i have a few guitars including a really nice 7 string that i put together from pieces from Warmoth, and one decent Line6 amp, but otherwise golf is my mistress.  and its tough because i can play guitar at home and still be spending time with the wife, but she HATES HATES HATES golf so thats definitely the costlier of my two hobbies.

Number one on my addiction list is golf followed a close number two by watches.  Luckily don't have too much of the golf gear buying craze or my green backs account would be even more depleted than it is.  Due to this depletion have kept purchases on hold.  My greatest expense is on green fees for playing

    • Day 283 - 2025-07-10 Got some work in while waiting for someone to show up for a GEARS lesson (they did not, and haven't reached out in 24 hours, so I'm getting a bit worried). Also recorded a video for @saevel25.
    • I agree. Personally, I've been watching the LPGA for a couple decades. My wife and I attended the US Women's Open in Edina, MN way back in 2008.  Two comments:  1 - I also enjoy another women's sport; Softball. The College Softball World Series is a big event in our household. Interestingly, my niece plays softball and my nephew plays baseball. Often we go watch them both play the same weekend. Both games will have the same start time. I have to say I enjoy the softball more than the baseball. The women are on a 20 second pitch clock. Yeah, you read that right 20 seconds. Plus, the players stand in the dugout the entire game and sing and/or chant stuff the whole time. Tons of energy. The game moves along at a fast pace. We often watch my niece's entire game and then go over to watch my nephew and they are in the 3rd inning. The baseball seems to move at a crawl after coming over from the softball game.  2 - My daughter and I have taken to watching the youtube channel "The Golf Girl Games". Great content. Very entertaining. If you haven't watched them yet, I recommend them.
    • It's not too far off, Scott. You can probably let the arms go up earlier in the backswing so the change of direction isn't quite so dramatic.

    • I haven’t really filmed in a while. Starting to feel like my body is close to being at full strength again, but I am also 65! I played a few round and my distance is down as expected. Here are a 6 iron and driver swing. My grip is a bit weak in these so I’ve focused on that the last few days. I went over my Erie notes. I’m trying to swing down from the top and not out. I want my weight to start shifting forward at about P3. And I want to push my left hip back in the downswing, which I was not successful in these swings. Ball flight has been pushes or pull draws with the irons and fades with the driver. Looking at these swings I can see why. I just need to change the picture.
