Snedeker's -6 looks like a winner.  The leaders are going backwards with 3 tough holes to go.  Sendeker may win going away, scoring wise.   Choi is -5, Walker -4 and I don't see either one going under par the rest of the way.

It's down to Choi's chip & putt to force a playoff.   I love it.  45 year old going for an unlikely win in tough playing condition against one of the top players.

He played his second shot way to conservatively, what an underwhelming last three shots.

I don't know, I feel like he should have been able to get closer than he was on the third shot, no? Obviously not hitting the green, but it looked like he was not even close to the water on the third. First he underestimated the wind, then he overestimated it going into the green, going too long.

Monday morning quarterback for sure, but I feel like he could've given himself a reasonable birdie shot somehow.

There's nothing to lose (except for the 'image of the sport' people - and who cares about them) or maybe a place or two in prize money.

But if it, for some amazing reason, goes in the hole in this weather, and this situation, with that send off, for the win - then he is immortal in history.  Not just in the history of golf.  But the whole world.

And yes - at that point, he should change his name to T.K. Oh  (just like in the crappy movie).  Even better - just plain TKO.  One word - but pronounced TeeKayOh

(4 straight pars to finish in that weather to a clean 2nd.  respect)

And to add to that... He averages 277 off the tee with driver.  That's probably around a 250 - 260 carry with no wind.

On the 18th he needed to carry about 290 to clear the water and with strong winds knocking the ball down.  There was no chance of that happening, easy decision.

The third shot wasn't horrible in that swirling wind, he just missed it a bit or maybe it was all the change in the wind.

So he gained almost 9 strokes on the field with that last round? That is insane!

I'm glad the conditions were still pretty bad today. I would have been annoyed for Snedeker if the rest of the field got to play in good conditions today.

I also question KJ Choi's second shot on 18. With that hole, the play is to get it as close to the water as possible with your second shot (assuming you can't go for it). He looked pretty far back. Although I admit I didn't see what he hit on his second shot. If he really went driver, 3 wood, 8 iron on 18 just to get it there in regulation, that's pretty crazy...

Isn't the approach 3rd shot on 18 to hit it past and to the right of that hole position and let it spin and roll down the hill to the hole?

If that's the case did he really miss his spot by much or at all?

If I recall, it didn't spin back and take the hill at all.  Looked really close to coming down that hill.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
