If you could (hypothetically) only practice one part of the golf swing, what would be your choice?

Myself, although I like getting to the top of my swing, to start my down swing correctly, I still think the impact position is one of more critical moments in the golf swing. Especially with the irons.

The hands leading the iron club head into the ball, along the correct path, will keep the golfer's ball flight pretty consistent. I practice this part of the swing quite often. I do this by getting the sensation of pulling (dragging?) the club head into the ball. It is something I do in slow motion, without a ball, quite often.

For me, it helps to keep my divots in front of the ball. It also helps me with consistent distances with each of my irons when using my full swing.

Obviously there are othe movements (positions) in the golf swing that have to be done right. However, if I could only practice one part of the golf swing, then impact position would be it. If I get my impact position correct, how I got it there is of less importance.

Just a thought.

Back swing for me.. If I can't get in a good bs position then getting into a good impact position is just too tough as I neither have the skill nor the ability to compensate from there! Yet anyway ;)

Yeah, that's what I'd answer as well.

Developing the ability to consistently deliver the club face with an in-to-out path

Four holes on my home course (2 par 4's & 2 par 5's) have OB running down the left side tee-to-green...with two other holes marked by red stakes in the same fashion.  So, as a lefty, I've gotten into some big trouble slicing shots after cutting across at impact.  It's been especially difficult to feel confident over the ball when trying to reach (or get near) the par 5's in two knowing the miss may land me a stroke & distance penalty from 200 out.

Yeah, I agree, I'd practice my impact position.  The thing is, that is basically practicing your entire swing because you need a great swing to always get into a great impact position.  It's like saying I'd just practice hitting 300 yard drives straight down the middle.
