Longest putt I ever tried was about 60 yards at the 6th at the Old Course in St Andrews.  Wedge was never an option with a swale in front that would either kick it over the green if it hit the downslope or kill it into the upslope.  No way to hold a shot that lands on the green.  The caddie gave me a choice between a 6 or 7 iron chip and run or the putter.  Since I never practice the chip and run, I putted it.  Over some humps and ripples, disappeared into the swale, and then onto the green, to maybe 12 feet.  Caddie turns to me and shakes my hand, says "Now THAT was a golf shot."  What a memory!

I would much rather play the chip and run.  Have never been a big fan of the Texas Wedge option in my bag.

I can chip with a putting method using almost any club. A 3H will go a long way. You don't have to really whack at it like that guy either.

I've played very few courses that were mowed close enough and/or in good enough shape to reliably be able to chip and run let alone putt long distances from the green. I almost always had to pitch the ball all the way to just before or on the green before allowing the ball to roll if I expect to get anywhere near the hole.

Ha ha!  That's awesome!   :-D

I'm not sure where I could even go to practice a 60 yard putt.  Might have to try it on a fairway this summer when they dry out and speed up a bit.

I could have told the guy he had to aim farther right there. :-)

Beat me to it. That's a pretty strongly canted fairway.

Same here. Plus, when I try to blast an extra long putt, I seem to end up pulling or pushing it severely!

Odd shot choice seems he did it because he could and someone was shooting video.

Looks like he pulled it too, just for good measure. :-P
