Hit some shots into the net, concentrating more on just swinging the clubhead and letting the body's reaction to that be what it is. Felt like I had better strike from doing this and a slightly wider taller reachier set up. This maybe just flavor of the week practice but we will see.

Stupid half swing drills got me not turning far enough on the back swing. So, I modified the half swing drills to include a full hip and shoulder turns and aligned with all clubs at A3/A6 positions.

Also, my left hand was too tight on the grip. Once I added these two things back to my swing, I was making  much better contact. The balls went high and about 10 yards farther. It felt as solid as I could get the clubs with tons more spin on the irons. Carried one 3W shot off the deck to or slightly past the 235 flag and the ball bounced off the other side of the hill.

Hit the indoor range for 30 mins working on my reduced 'turn' (which is in effect a small lift) in my backswing and also making sure I have clubface control via my left wrist flex. These have been some tricky changes to make for me, but really starting to pay off.

DId some slo-mo "mapping" for about 10 minutes and took 1, 3/4 speed 8iron swing.  I hurt my left knee 2 days ago doing some drills to "leverage the ground" . .little misconception there, lol.  It's only a strain, though.  Today it doesn't actually hurt but it feels a little weird.  Ever since I threw out my back, though, I take this kind of stuff seriously.

This using the gound bit is the greatest thing ever, though.  I was stuck trying to build more speed.  I'm hitting my 8iron around 140 with a good strike.  I have only made about a dozen full swings using the ground , and definitely not using it all that well, but I can tell that distance is going to go up.  I have hit thousands of shots into my net . .I know what it sounds and feels like, etc.  This is way faster.  This is cool.

Hour and a half at the range. Reviewed the full list from my instructor of past faults. Back to stance, grip, takeaway, etc. Honed in on flattening club at start of downswing and tried to really feel the left forearm and left wrist from A4 to A6 to make that happen. Lots of checkpoints. Sped up from slow motion to 50% speed and hit balls that way.

No camera due to rain and the covering area was only large enough for me, not the camera. Disappointing because I was hoping to share a few DTL's in my swing thread.

Just played 9 holes... score 51! I think my only lower round was a 50 with a friend once.  Need to practice putting.

Half swing drills.

Practiced on the range and played 9 quick holes. . .

Shot 40 with 2 double bogeys and a bogie that was kind of a stupid "not looking up before deciding it was clear to shoot" thing***. . .oh, don't ask. . .:-P

The good news is that other than hitting only 2 trees with my drives where the first hole I hit one and the ball came backwards back into the fairway and the other one where it ended up in a hard pan area, I drove the ball pretty well on all 4 other holes. Except the one I pulled into a bank that stopped it from rolling into the other tee box. Well, other than. . .okay so I still hit all over the place, but I am getting my distance back to where it was at the end of last season with the Ping i25 driver. The single round driver performance looks in line with that I was doing 10 months ago at the end of last summer. I think it's stable enough to use again. I think it spins less than the Titleist R flex shaft.

***It was probably the golfing gods punishing me for making fun of Dan from the Dan Plan for doing the same. . .

Played 18 yesterday. Still had issues with the driver and hooks. Will film at the range today. Definitely my weakest club.

So, the main issue now is that the half swings look more like full swings because I turn my hips and shoulders all the way back. So, instead of doing pure half swings, I take it to the top from A3 and back down to A6 really slowly. Taking it back down from the top to A6 is purely moving the hips and letting my hips initiate the movement with a lateral slide forward then rotation almost in sequence. I'm still playing around with the exact "timing" in slow motion. Once I get to A6 I make my usual half swing using purely the hip rotation to get through impact. Still work in progress.

Some mirror work before my workout. I'm going to the range later to specifically work on the driver and transition to shallowing the shaft.

Just found this thread. I practice every day even it is just 30-40 slow swings with a couple different clubs. Yesterday I pitched with my 52 and 56. Hit 5 balls with one club, then 5 with the other club at the same speed and amount of backswing. Trying to fine tune my distances. I just picked up the 52* last week to have a 100 yard shot. Only used a 56/14 and a pitching wedge before, so trying to figure out when to use the 52/10 other than that full swing 100 yard shot.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
