We've all seen this.   I don't believe you can single out any major ball manufacturer and say in a general statement they are all bad.  I'm sure people have personal preferences and to some degree some are better than others but.. we all hope and pray that the golf balls we purchase will fly a few yard straighter and farther than the previous shot.

My golf buddy purchased 5 dozen recently and has played them the past couple of seasons. Was a real fan. His club pro (new club for him), bashed them and basically all direct to consumer balls like the Snells I usually play. He says the cores are not always centered and that he is losing 15 to 20 yards.
So now he is trying to unload dozens of vice balls.

A guy who runs a pro shop hates DTC (direct to consumer) golf balls? Go figure!

That has to be of psychosomatic origins. I have hit some of my biggest drives of the year with the Pro Plus and almost think they are 1/4 club longer on the approach irons. But hey, the pro has very limited resale opportunities in his shop but ball shaming is a new one!

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
