Alcohol and golf to me are mutually exclusive except for on rare occasions.  I play 95% of my rounds either alone or with my friend/golf partner.  He loves the game and doesn't go to the course looking to get blasted.  We try to help each other play our best and alcohol doesn't help.  When I go solo it's almost like meditation so the same applies.  Now full disclosure, were both beer enthusiasts so when in the mood for beer, a bar is the setting.

I've played a couple rounds in celebratory settings, bachelor parties, where drinking was part of the game.  They weren't the best rounds of my life and I don't find that booze helps me get in the groove.  What I did notice was that my best round was played the day I shaved a mustache...

More importantly, why is your left hand backward? I mean, isn't that your thumb toward your shoulder, with your pinkie finger toward the outside of your elbow?

Unless your palm is down or something… but who stands like that? :-)

Have you ever seen those studies where they give drivers one drink at a time then have them drive an obstacle course. Some feel better, or non-impaired but none perform better.

Exactly. I think they think they perform better, but they're just more delusional.

If you think you need beer to "swing better..." then your swing can obviously benefit from just relaxing a little. You don't need beer to do this... you just need to relax your swing.

Only when playing with my father-in-law or some old college buddies will we have a drink (MAYBE 2) after the 9th hole. But I'll VERY rarely have 2. I just don't enjoy that feeling on the course. I prefer it when watching sports, grilling out, on the lake, or playing video games or something.

I tried drinking beer one time when playing golf.  My swing went south.  Never again do I drink when I play golf.

Of course, I could just be a light weight when it comes to drinking.  So who knows.

I know his hand looks funky, I'm just goofing with your comment.
Not many support their arm in the position he's in.

I think the "Glove" give the perception his hand is all twisted or rolled over.
It looks like he's just curling his fingers upward which gives the impression his hand is rotated.
Or, not very likely, but is it that he's wearing a right hand glove on his left hand?

Photos can sometimes create an illusion of different perspectives.
Is the palm is facing down which is a natural position, or is the elbow resting in the palm of his hand?

Funny looking stance though.

The glove might be off the hand and just resting between the elbow and the butt end of the grip. It's pretty hot near the equator.

If it takes 6-10 beers for you to feel in the zone / aka 'relaxed' and 8:30 am drinking is your norm, there's a chance your wife may be right. Not looking to offend or judge you, but that's kinda heavy consumption vs. the average beer drinking golfer.

Perhaps I'm a 'lightweight', but 14 beers would take my swing well beyond sloppy.

OTOH, if you and all your partners are drinking that much "liquid joint grease" it could certainly lower overall scores through omissions due to lack of healthy cerebral activity. :-D

Probably why he's enjoying a nice cold barley pop.

Speaking of which, can anyone identify the brand of beer?

.Now the strange thing is, apart from darts, pool, beach volleyball & dominoes, I don't think there's any other hand eye coordinated sport out there that you can drink 6 beers and still perform (I know, I've tried and failed badly).

In all my years I have never seen the words "hand eye coordination" and "dominoes" in the same sentence.  Then again I can't recall the word "sport" and "dominoes" being together either.

I personally don't care what others do as long as they can control themselves.  I don't drink and play golf, but I rarely drink anyway.  The words "athlete" and "alcohol" have never been in my vocabulary so I realize that I am not a good barometer.

One must consider the "hole to beer" ratio with hefty adjustor applied.

H = number of holes completed
B = number of beers consumed (12 oz. std = 1 beer) *
W = your body weight, after breakfast
Ag = Adjustor gender for average weight of US                       adults (male = 180 lbs; female = 140 lbs)

* NOTE: Golf industry has standards for beer units, but not for shaft flex.
----------------------------------------
the (W - Ag) / A is an adjustment factor for how much heft you have to help you dissipate the ill effects of alcohol.

A male who weighs 190 lbs. will process alcohol more quickly than someone who only weighs 170 lbs.

--------------------------------------

Our Initial Performance Zones...

H/B + (W - Ag) / Ag  > 4 ... you're in good shape

H/B + (W - Ag) / Ag < 1 ... I hope you brought a dozen balls

> 1 but 4 < ... we don't know, this is exploratory research.

On the other hand a lot of my friends do a lot better than I do. It takes me about 1 beer to start hitting worse. Some guys drink the whole 18. I wonder if they just have a better ingrained swing.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.
