You have my very deepest sympathies. people who do not love dogs, don't realise the pain we go through when one dies. I compare it with the loss of a child. When my last one died it took me four months to come to terms with it, and even then I still hurt so bad. I now own a Jack Rusell called Trixie. She has Cerebral Paulsy (video included). She is now 11 years old, and I am aware that due to her disability she probably won't live as long as most dogs. I try not to think about it. My thoughts are with you

Thanks guys.  @RussUK, Jojo just turned 11, also a bit young for a schnauzer.  She was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer back in June, sadly, the day after we lost my mom to cancer.  That made for a cheery couple of days...

Through a miracle of modern veterinary medicine and powerful steroids, we had an unexpected 5 wonderfully vibrant, additional months with her....always knowing that one day, very suddenly, the cancer would overwhelm the drugs.  Sadly, that happened this Saturday, and the impact was immediate, leaving no choice but to do the right thing yesterday.

@paininthenuts is absolutely right.  Please don't think that I'm a horrible person, but this has devastated me more than the death of my mom.  Maybe it's the difference in the outpouring of support that comes with the loss of a human family member, or that mother or not, you've been once removed from daily contact for a long time, so you don't miss the little daily routines, and have all the little reminders of her presence staring you in the face every time you turn around.  I don't know, all I really know is that it really, really sucks...

Thanks for understanding, and @paininthenuts, give Trixie a hug from me tonight.

Fwiw, I wouldn't consider it inappropriate at all for anyone else to share pictures or stories of their furry buddies here too....

We have three dogs at home. My wife will need a week of mourning for each when they go. It will be a while though as our oldest is 5. My condolences for your loss.

Completely understand and agree with this. We had 2 dogs growing up, a Cocker Spaniel called Scamp, she was 12 when she died, really good age for a spaniel, and Bess who was a Terrier cross. She was amzaing, really cheeky. We got her as a puppy and chose her as she was the smallest of the litter and had 1 floppy ear and one that was straight up and made her look very cute.

We had her till she was 15 years old, and by that time she had gone pretty much blind and was getting a little aggresive towards people she didnt know. My dad took the decision to put her down and im not ashamed to say i cried when i found out.

I still remember the first time my wife stayed over when my parents went on holiday (we had been dating about 8 months) we decided to give Bess a bath. She stood in the tub outside, got her all shampooed and rinsed, then we realised the back door was open and off she went through my legs past my wife and into the kitched and proceeded to shake herself off! We still laugh at that now. good memories.

Sorry for your loss my friend. I still miss every dog I've ever had. We had to put Mr. B. (Biscuit) down on Jan. 1 this year at 2AM. That one hit me the hardest since he was only 7 years old. 2016 certainly started off with a gut wrenching loss. It's never easy, and the other dog we have still looks around for him when he picks up his smell on something in our house. RIP Jojo!

I'm so sorry for your loss!  We had to put our dog down, a year ago this week, and I swear that I can still hear her scamper occasionally!

When we lost our last one we had some very strange occurrences. My dog had breathing problems, and snored badly for the last year of her life. Shortly after she died I sat upstairs and listened to her snore downstairs for about 3 minutes. My wife was in the downstairs cloakroom and listened to her walk around on the wood floor for a few minutes, and we both heard her bark on several occasions when we pulled up in the car. She died over 6 years ago, and I still think about her most days

My ex got the cat, I got Jo.

Jojo never liked kitties.  Too many bitey scratchy parts, and they didn't play nice.  Ours would smack Jo in the ass whenever she walked by.  Never a claw, but just to say, "you might be man's best friend, but I'm still the cat, and don't forget it!"

You have our deepest sympathies @David in FL. As others have said, those who have experienced it fully understand.

All they want most of out of life is our companionship. How can it not tear you apart when they go? I'm glad you were able to spend another 5 months with her.

I know this won't help, but consider the life Jojo might have experienced had she not been fortunate enough to be spoiled and loved the way she was. You gave her the best life a dog could have and that has to mean something.

Thank you for this. Wanted to start a thread like this two months ago but didn't know how it would be received.

Now I know.

This is Jack, our 10 y/o white boxer. A.k.a. Jack Dempsey, Cracker Jack, and Simple Jack. We lost him in August. We had hoped for a few months after opting for surgery but got only a few weeks. Good bye, old friend.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
