Thats not rust we saw. Tigers game still looks like its barley held together with band-aids, IMO. Its broken and wildly inconsistent. Theres alot work to be done for him if he wants to be a top 20 player again.

Compared to some of the painful looking old man swings that we saw during his recovery, I thought his swing looked shockingly fluid and healthy for the most part this weekend.

The question for me is whether his body can hold up from here and allow him to get the 'reps' needed to continue improving his game. If it does, then I think he'll pop up on some leaderboards next year...especially at the courses he has dominated in the past.

I wouldn't be surprised if its at least partially fatigue.  I know he's in great condition, but he hasn't walked many rounds of golf, and hasn't walked a competitive round for a long time.  He hasn't needed to grind (there's one for the Bingo card).  I'd bet he's going to have both mental and physical fatigue for a while still, until he's in the swing of tournament golf.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's a little less affected during the Friday and Saturday rounds, but I'd also be surprised if it didn't catch up to him sometime on Sunday.  Still, if he can play all four days in a row, and avoid disasters, I think I'd call it a success.

To me, Tiger's tournament was a success, he played all 4 days, with no apparent sign of pain.  That's an excellent first step.

I'm not terribly excited about his birdies, nor about his doubles, they kind of cancel each other out in my mind.  I think he's bound to be somewhat erratic after such a long lay-off.  To me, the jury is still out on whether he'll be truly competitive again.  Again, he's made the first big step, actually playing 4 days in a row (apparently) without pain.

And I'm really impressed with myself, I had a moderately accurate prediction that Tiger would play more solid on Friday and Saturday, but that he might falter a bit on Sunday.  I know, its probably pure dumb luck on my part, but I'm going to pretend to be wise for at least an hour or so.

I wonder, just out of curiosity, if he had finished DFL, would he have still moved up in the OWGR?

I posted this in the thread hidden under spoilers.

Not to count chickens before they hatch, a 10th place finish would vault him from 900ish to to around 550 in the OWGR. If he finishes, around 750. So right now, somewhere between 550-750. Cross fingers back holds up, so far going a lot better than I had hoped. So goes the long climb.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

While I accurately predicted his ultimate placing in the event, he played much better than I expected.

I truly enjoyed having him back in the field, don't think I missed a shot over the weekend.

As I've said before, his comportment is more likeable these days, I love seeing him cutting up with Jordan and Rickie.  He doesn't seem to take himself so seriously now, so thats more fun to watch for me although I'm not sure he can compete with these guys minus that killer instinct.  Dropped a few f-bombs but that isn't something that overly bothers me since I do it too.

He was great in the booth on Sat, missed him there on Sunday if he went in at all.

I don't think he'll ever win another major but I expect him to enter some lower level tournaments down the road and I could see him winning another tournament or 2.  Doubt he'll catch Snead though.

I look forward to his next event, something I wouldn't have said in years past.

Well, cutting up is what you do when you're an "elder statesman" in the game. Which is what Tiger is these days. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad if he gets all the way back. But I think the best part of his career is behind him!

That's kinda a well, "Duh" ;-)

He's not going to win 35-40% of the tournaments he enters in a golfing season anymore with multiple major wins.

If he continues to improve and stays healthy. I can see him winning a few tournaments a year and maybe get a couple more majors under his belt.

Tiger finishing four rounds pain free is a success and physically he looks great. He also led the field in birdies, hopefully a sign of things to come.
