By the looks of things, Jason is going to be keeping his TM clubs, but will wear Nike clothing.

Exciting to learn the brand of hat Jason Day will be wearing...

I sense some sarcasm, but some people do wonder about these kinds of things.

Nike and Adidas apparel, in my experience, are pretty comparable. No brand seems to do one thing better than the other.

It's weird, these days, though: pros used to either wear their equipment company's clothing OR a clothing-only brand like, say, Ashworth or something.

Of course that's my memory so I could be wrong.

I have several different brands of clothing in my closet. Since taking up golf again, I've been amazed at how comfortable clothing has become. Greg Norman, PGA Tour, Adidas and Izod, to name three are pretty much the same. Nice. But the surprising things in my closet come from Sketchers, of all people. From their shoes and jackets to shorts and pants, they are by far the most comfortable clothes I have. I wear the other stuff when my Sketchers stuff is in the wash.

Everyone says they don't buy stuff just because their favorite golfer wears it or hits it, but if it wasn't effective Tiger wouldn't be worth $700 million.

Ashworth is owned by TaylorMade.

Now they are. I was talking about before.

I think they were brought into TMAG in the late 2000s.

Before Tiger signed with Nike, were golfers signed to big endorsement contracts? Was Taylormade or lets say Titleist spending a lot of money to get people to use their clubs?

I wonder if things are shifting back to how they use to be. Players would play what clubs they like. Maybe it's a mixed bag or not.

The deals are obviously bigger now by yes they signed exclusive equipment contracts. Sam Snead and Arnie were with Wilson, Jack and Johnny Miller were with MacGregor, Tom Watson with Ram, Greg Norman with Cobra, Payne Stewart and Craig Stafler with Top-Flite. Seve and Curtis Strange were one of the first Nike apparel guys.

Titleist wasn't a big equipment player until the mid-late 90's, most of the money they spent was to players to play the ball (and still is to some degree). TaylorMade has a dozen or so guys like Lee Janzen and Mark O'Meara before they re-invented themselves in 2000 with the 300 series.

Adidas and Nike getting out of the equipment business certainly changes things.

Day in Nike regalia. I wonder what happens to all that old Adidas clothing? Probably just gives it away. What do pros generally do with stuff they don't endorse anymore?
