On Saturday, playing a neighboring club as our course was full for the Member-guest, I holed not one but two bunker shots.  The sand was very firm and pretty damp from overnight rains, but was also very smooth.  The first came on the 3rd hole, a nice high floater, one hop and in.   The second was on the 17th, again the ball came out soft, but this one just trickled in the front.

Game has been in the tank this year, so not much good to report.   Finally have a shot to mention ... 149 yd approach to short sided pin with bunker in front ... pure 7i - rolled it right in.   Longest hole out ever ...

Eighth hole at River Pines Golf Club is a par measuring 455 yards from the member tees, dog-legging slightly to the right 100 yards away from an elevated green. This afternoon, I hit my tee shot left into the woods, anticipating a draw that never turned over. My only option for the second shot was to chip out onto the fairway, but I messed that up; instead of going to the right of the tree I was using for framing, the ball went to the left of the tree, staying in the rough.

After two strokes, I was lying in the rough with still around 165 yards left to a center pin location. The good news was that I had a clear line behind the dogleg, and though the ball was nestled down in the grass, it was a flyer lie. I figured if I could make solid contact with a 6-iron, I could get onto the green so long as it stayed on line. I took the swing, and it definitely came out hot. The ball landed just short of the putting surface, then took a big bounce over the plateau. The ball came to rest ten feet below the hole, and I made the putt for my only birdie of the day.

Par 4 dogleg right I blistered a drive with a nice cut. When I got to my ball I was preplexed to not find it in te middle of the fairway, I must have hit a TERRIBLE bounce and it bounced down the hill off the side of the fairway a good 10 yards into the dogleg section. There's a large tree right on the dogleg turn and trees on the right. I can see the pin between the tree at the dogleg and on my right, ball severely below my feet. 153 yards to the pin on an elevated green (a good 15 foot elevation). Flushed the 7i to within 5 ft of the pin. Then 2 putted for par lol (doh!).

Was still an awesome 7i. Tracked the whole way and gracefully passed through the two tight tree lines.

On the 8th hole, a par 4 listed at 384, I crunched a drive.  It got over the crest of the hill and rolled down into the rough.  This left me with about 95 yards to a green that there was no way I could get through the air as I was blocked out by a tree.  To make matters worse, I was on a severe downslope, which I never play from well.

The only play I could come up with was to punch the ball into the valley and hope it rode up the hill onto the green.  I took a 5 iron, put it way back in my stance, aimed just off the rough along the right side of the fairway and punched the ball perfectly.  It hit hard into the hill and kicked it up.  After the deflection, the ball carried over the greenside trap on the left and finished just above pin-high in the rough left of the green.

I hit a pretty good pitch from there to 7 feet, but could not make the par putt... but I was still immensely happy with the shot I had manufactured from a poor position for my approach.

Holy crap....I've made 2 eagles in the past 10 days, and missed a third from about 10 feet since!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What the heck

This is the view to a par5 green from a lay-up area....if you played the hole as a 3-shot hole.............going for it in 2 is big trouble. Do you see that little ball up there near the pin??????  I was laying there in 2..........

IMG_1764_zpszrm6v3vc.jpg

Sadly....when I got close, the ball wasn't as close as I hoped.   The eagle putt was 8-10'..........See my ball up there?......it's Laying 2!!!  I hit a perfect 5 wood from 227yds............CRUSHED it.....as straight as you can point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I got close....I had about 8'........................but missed this putt.

Played Frisco trails for the second time ever. Tight, water water everywhere, fast deceptive greens and lots of course character. After over cooking a 7 iron, my ball came to rest behind water hazard with a forty foot tree between me and a severely elevated green. Ball was sitting nicely but was in 2 inch rough with 115 to flag, pulled gap wedge and took big full swing. Ball soared up over the water, over the tree and landed ten feet behind the flag with some backspin rolling to about 7 feet!!! Managed to make the putt too. That gap wedge was a laser tho!!!

Great shot bud.  I play the Trails regularly, great track.  Can't quite place the hole to which you're referring based on that description.  You overcooked the green by 115 yards with a 7?  Yowsa!  Can't figure where that coulda happened?

Lol. Sorry, I wasnt quite clear enough. My 2nd shot was supposed to be a 7 iron out of light rough to middle of fairway to set up my approach. I overcooked that shot advancing the ball 15 yards further than I planned nearly hitting it into the water. Fortunately it stopped short, but that left me with the tricky approach shot. At this point, I have 115 left to an elevated green with a pretty tall tree between me and the green. That tree was daunting but I just took a deep breath and a big wide swing and somehow I managed to not only land the green but landed close enough to make the putt for par. Wish I could remember the hole...I just remember it being on the back 9. If you ever need a terrible playing  partner on a tuesday, feel free to pm me! :)

Yep, got it.  It was 12, 2nd hardest hole there.  2 always eats my lunch.  I can attest, that indeed was a great shot, I've had it myself.  Nice.

Today: After struggling with my driver on the first three holes, I pulled it out on four, a 180y par 3. Nailed the green, and it stuck, leaving me a ten footer for the bird. Missed that one, but append in for par. Deal!

Should have added, while I've had that shot, I don't recall ever stuffing it to 7 feet.

Raced through the executive course the other day after work. The par-4, 400-yard 18th has never treated me kindly, but this time a decent drive gave me about 170 yards to the pin. Eased a 5-wood to five yards of the pin and made the putt. Pretty sure that's a first birdie ever on that hole

First hole of league came pretty close to getting my first ace. Ball landed just left and short of the pin, jumped forward then spun back right by the hole stopping 2 feet from it.

This doesn't appear as exciting as the others but for me it was.  I've been working on swing path and drawing the ball.  This drive had such a beautiful ball flight, starting right of the target with a draw and for me was long (this was slightly uphill).  The rest of the hole made me happy too.

I have two; not sure which was better.

I putted a 79-footer with about 10 feet of break, and left myself a 6-inch tap-in for par.

I also hit a 50-yard downhill pitch shot, through some branches, to about 1 foot.

5 iron to within 6 feet on 188 yard par 3 yesterday. Flush contact, perfect ball flight, drop and stop. Missed the birdie putt though. Drag.
