Player Drops Club on Bag - Lack of Respect to Caddie?

Absolutely true, but even in the case of anger/frustration, that anger/frustration is seldom directed at the caddie.

I don't see an issue. These caddies are paid a lot of money, especially ones caddying for guys playing well week to week. Bending down and picking up a club is pretty much in the job description. If I was a caddie this wouldn't bother me one bit.

Not really an "issue" BirdieLife, just a bloke having a moan about summot on the internet. I'll probably not, now I've thought on, commit any serious harm to myself or anyone else due to this. I'll get over it I suppose,

I think I'm working through these deep feelings of hurt and torment and thank all who have helped me over this chaotic period in my life due to the perceived slight potentially felt by caddies all over the globe who may have been treated in a less than equal manner by their masters.

Still don't think I'd be comfortable just chucking stuff down for colleague to have to bend down and pick up when I could just hand it to them but...... as I said, perhaps I'm just soft.

*edit also, seeing as the looper is trapsing around with 13 other clubs and the rest of the gear, I'm certain carrying one stick until the caddie caught up wouldn't be end of the world, even I can walk with a club in my hand and I'm an out of shape flump in North Manchester, not an athlete in Dubai or Phoenix. This would presumably increase the pace of play as caddie wouldn't have to bend down to retrieve the club for cleaning, could get straight on with that task and pop bag in the bag? 3 seconds X 72 holes, 3 and a half minutes each player.

You're the only one who seems to be taking offense to it.

I've caddied for some players. The thought of taking offense never even enters my mind. It's not like I even think "Man, that was a little rude. Oh well, I'm being paid well enough."

This is like complaining about a player tossing his ball to you for cleaning rather than walking over and handing it to you. It's not even a thought that enters the mind of a caddie.

My nephew caddied at a local private club, and his ex-girfriend's current boyfriend was his first loop! On top of that this dude is a real jerk and discussed non-stop private matters with his girlfriend all through the round. In addition to slamming the clubs into the bag, he didn't tip my nephew!

Luckily, the other people in the party tipped both caddies well enough. To top it off, no one in their party new that my nephew was the ex-boyfriend.

It's not like it happens every hole, with every player.
And the loss of time with different players would be in parallel, not serial (i.e., they don't have to wait for someone else to finish picking up a club before they pick up their club).

It doesn't bother me. Ive done that to caddies for me if the bag ends up on the ground. I dont think it bothers them, either.

Yeah I knew that when typing but the argument about pace of play was weak anyway so figured I'd chuck in some "alternative facts" like El presidente. ?

To make the argument that chucking a club on the floor and leaving it for someone to pick up, could be practiced to help aid time efficiencies is weak in my, unwanted, opinion.

This is their job...

I suppose if the player winged the club 20 yards away from the bag, that would be rude. Most players drop next to the bag so that the handle is sticking up so the caddy can grab it, clean it, and pop it back into the bag.

I agree, I always looked at it as a thoughtful thing, trying to help out the caddy but get on with their business of preparing for the next shot.

However I would question your authority on speaking on behalf of the entire population of every person who has ever caddied, you reckon not a single one thinks player who just chuck the stick on the deck has been a bit of a prick? I'd be very surprised if this were true chief.

In that case, is it equally disturbing that players take divots and expect their caddy to go fetch it? There is probably at least one caddy out there that is put off by their player digging up hunks of sod. They should really learn how pick a ball clean.

Seems a bit of a daft/childish response to be honest, but anyway, what was a light hearted view/opinion/query on the actions of some players on tour appears to have raised the hackles of some of the more sensitive (although that would be me based on this thread??) of the community so I'll bow out of this particular kerfuffle and bid everyone a beautiful day.
