Right....because no major professional sports organization has ever revised their rules to increase popularity.....oh wait.....ummmmmm

That's an entirely different argument.  So the snark doesn't work.

I expect he will play a lot of golf and hit many, many practice balls between now and his Web.com tee time.

Now that the season is over it looks like he is trending in the right direction

Looks like the "Tour tees" for Stonebrae are 74.8/138 according to the website (or 74.5/141 on the scorecard on the website, so who knows).  Obviously they make some sort of modifications to the course because the par for the tournament last year was 70, not 72.  (Wild guess, they probably turn 4 and 16 into par 4's)

TPC-Stonebrae-Scorecard.jpg

Either way, even if he plays well for his handicap, he's barely breaking 80.  A 79 (3.4 diff) would actually be in his top 10 differentials above.

On another note, that's a hell of a lot of golf for a guy who was in the playoffs.  I wish I could play that much anytime, let alone during the most important part of my work year.

I might actually watch the event now. I hate the Warriors and Curry, but I love the NBA and off the court, Curry's a good guy. Rooting for him to break 80 one of the two days, but I doubt it.

Wow. After seeing those scores, I will revise my prediction. I said earlier he won't break 80 -

He won't break 85.

Yea probably not an unfair thing to say. Imagine getting grouped with him? Haha, on the one hand, bad that he'll probably shoot 86 and draw a huge, annoying gallery, but on the other hand, good that he'll bring a gallery, and maybe your name gets some publicity and you pick up a few social media followers plus a friendship with Curry. Pros probably outweigh the cons there.

I realize you didn't bring this up, I'm just thinking out loud here haha. I probably would welcome being grouped with him if I was on the tour.

Yeah I'm not trying to be a hater here, but as the pros say, scratch ain't sh*t. And Curry ain't even close to scratch. He's gonna learn just how good these guys are, how tough the courses are, and how far he has to go.

But it's all good. It's a web.com event. They can use all the pub they can get. I got no problem with the sponsor's exemption for him. Sponsor's exemption usually don't win, or even contend...they're there to build the gate. He will. So mission accomplished.

You're being fair. I do think though that Curry knows he sucks.

Let's see... Jerry Rice went 83-76, 81-82, and then 92-82 (DQ for using a range finder lol) in his three starts. John Smoltz went 84-87 and I think he carries a + index.

It wouldn't surprise me if Curry knows they face planted. I think there's one difference here in that both Smotz and Rice actually thought they had a shot at golf careers; Curry appears aware he doesn't. I doubt that helps his score at all, but it should keep him smiling along with his expectations and pace of play in check. I am admittedly just guessing though.

Cool, thanks!  Confirms the scorecard is the correct one ... 74.5/141.

Agree with everything except the bold.  2.0 isn't THAT far away from scratch.  Especially considering that those scores are from the last couple of months when he was focused on the playoffs, and his low index is shown as 0.8.  If 0.8 is his offseason form, then I'd say he is pretty close to scratch.

But, yeah, agree with everything else and that he's unlikely to break even 85.

There's golf...and then there's tournament golf. A 2 turns into a 10 in a tournament.

An optimist would consider getting grouped with him a huge blessing and a taste of what it might be like if/when he makes it to the big stage. :)

True. Pebble Beach Pro-Am style.

And yea, he's totally shooting 85+ but hey, if Jerry Rice can pull a 76 out of his ass, then Curry has a blind puncher's chance at 79 haha. I feel like they're about the same level of talent. Curry might actually be slightly better. Rice does however play every day though.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but that goes towards your other argument of "scratch aint shit," not so much to the argument of the proximity of Curry to scratch.

Either way, the most important point was your very last  (mission accomplished) since we're already talking about this tournament tons more than we've ever discussed any web event.  (Save for the season opener this year that I just remembered - I started that thread too :-P)

Should be a fun tournament. Probably the only Web.com Tour event we see highlights of on SportsCenter all year.

True.

Not a whole lot of pressure when your team nearly sweeps the playoffs.

Maybe thats also why he had time to play golf....

Anyone remember Jerry Rice playing in a couple Web.com (Nationwide at the time) maybe 5 or so years ago?  He was a +2 index, and did not make any cuts (I think he even shot almost 20 over one round).

Curry is certainly a solid player (assuming his index is legit), but don't expect him to go low.  It will be fun nonetheless to see him play, and how he fairs.

Stack System’s marketing materials inflate apparent swing speed and distance gains through selective presentment of data without qualification that purported gains are not the result, in whole or part, of its training protocol and products. * Yes, I'm joking about abbreviating both "SS." SuperSpeed wants: A judgment that the Stack System has disseminated false and/or misleading information in violation of federal and Illinois law. Oy.
    • I'm not doing this for the hundred and twentieth time. Sorry in advance, but you get the massively abridged version. Those guys also benefited from the weaker/shallower fields. Also, Watson's career doesn't overlap with Jack's like many think it did. Tom is nearly a decade younger. Jack won only like four majors only after Tom won his first. And Tom won more British Opens than he did all three of the other majors combined, as it was his specialty (not Jack's). Arnie's career similarly doesn't overlap Jack's as much as many think.   Jack would also tell you Tiger was the better golfer.
    • Weaker depth of fields for sure. Some of the top level guys with Jack were pretty awesome. Tom Watson had the lead on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open, an event where Tiger missed the cut. Old Tom was almost 60 years old. Jack himself at age 58 finished Top 10 at The 1998 Masters and scored better than Tiger, who won The Masters by 12 shots just a year before that.   The success of both Tom & Jack in older age gives some hope that maybe Tiger can find the magic again at some point. He’s still trying to figure out how to build the stamina for 72 holes after the leg injury. I would love to see him jump on the leaderboard in the coming years. I know a lot of people have given up on him at this point, but that was also true from 2014 to 2017 with the back injuries. He had a hell of a resurgence in 2018 & 2019. Would be fun to see it again.
    • Perceptive rules question by caddie unlocks Tour pro’s ‘dead zone’ relief A perceptive rules question by Xander Schauffele’s caddie, Austin Kaiser, unlocked “dead zone” relief during the Wells Fargo Championship.
    • I ran across an interesting new clip, Johnson Wagner went into that spot with the Referee who allowed the relief.  Apparently there was a perfectly reasonable shot to be made, as Johnson clearly demonstrated, so relief from the TIO was perfectly appropriate.
