Hmmmm. I agree with John: if TouchID is not there, the face scanning had better be just as good or better.

And if the new phone is $1200+, I don't see myself buying it. Because, hell, I don't use my current phone anywhere near to its full capabilities.

I would hope that sales drop with the cost almost double the price of a good phone.   The market will demand the price but I believe that $1200+ is highly inflated.

I don't either, and I never have. 

I'm currently using iPhone 6s, which is my 5th iPhone since they came out in 2007.

When the cell phone providers stopped subsidizing phones I lost interest in keeping up. I can do a lot w/ $1200. I think for a lot of folks having the latest and greatest is just a status thing - most don't fully use all the features.

I plan on buying a new iPhone when it comes out, as my 6 has a cracked screen (and I pushed off upgrading last year, when my screen wasn't cracked, because the 7 didn't wow me). But I wouldn't spend much more than the ~$850 the high end 7 is going for currently.

The disadvantages to a facial scanner sensor are numerous, as Gruber mentioned. You'd assume they could do it better than the Android manufacturers whose phones can be unlocked with a picture in place of your actual face, but if it's really 3D you'd think they'd need 2 cameras that would perform well at low light and would turn on instantly. Anything short of that would have some big compromises (compromises I'm not sure would warrant getting rid of the home button, at least for me).

It also seems unlikely to me that they'd price a model that high, especially since wireless carriers have mostly stopped subsidizing phones. 

But, hey, we'll see.

I enjoy seeing the technology advance, but I don't subsidize the changes.  My 5s is chugging away just fine, along with mr IPad 2.

Yeah, will not be paying 1200 for a phone. At the end of the day that's what it is, a phone/communication device. I doubt I will do any more with it than I do my 6 so why would I pay double?

Well, the youngest won't be using her upgrade to go to the next IPhone if it's that much. I have nothing against Apple or IPhones, but I've never really liked their products personally. I just got my Pixel XL and am plenty happy with it. Cleaner interface than other phones I've had and large screen while still keeping a decently small form factor.

Also, like @iacasmentioned, typically we don't even use our current phones to their fullest so chasing the latest and greatest releases of phones these days is just not worth it. At the beginning when there were large changes in hardware and functionality it made more sense, but at this point these phones are pretty much as powerful as entry level laptops or better. If you can keep from breaking your phone there's no reason it shouldn't last several years. The only caveat to the life of phones seems to be how long the battery can hold sufficient charge to make it through a day, and even then you can probably take it to a cell repair shop to have the battery replaced or buy one of those extended battery phone cases.

You would think that they could move the TouchID sensor to the back.  If not, then I'm OK with no TouchID if the screen is enlarged.

They're still likely hitting the same price points for the "7s" model. The rumored higher price is for the "8."

I don't even know if I'm going to let her upgrade at this point anyway, we just had to replace her 6s because she shattered the screen on hers. However, I did forget that they'll be releasing the 7s first.

I am never really liked the bigger screens like 6 or worse 6 plus.

I will be going back to 4.7 inch model like SE (presumably 7S?).  My 2 year old iPhone 6 cannot get wifi signal unless it is pretty much right next to the router and don't even talk about the bluetooth.  It's almost non-existent now.

I miss the older models like iPhone 4 or even iPhone 5, when they were built more sturdy than current models.

Who's your carrier? I have sprint and the only way they will upgrade your phone now if you buy from them is the "lease" option or you out right buy it which is a ripoff. I ended up getting an iphone se from apple the way you used to be able to, renew your contract, pay $50.

Verizon, once we reach 50% pay off on the phone we can trade it in on a new phone as long as it's in good working order. No renewal of contract required. Can even upgrade early by paying whatever the difference is up to that 50%.
