Alright alright, I know the Presidents Cup doesn't stoke a ton of interest around here but it's team match play golf being played right outside NYC so I'm moderately excited about this weekend. I've been boycotting the NFL since way before it was cool (I just don't like football :-P), so I'm looking forward to having some more good golf to watch this Fall.

Tiger, Freddie, DL3 will be helping Stricker out  and the US team is looking stacked. My guess would be we see another US blowout performance but who knows. What say yall?

Probably.

I'll be in Rochester, NY this weekend with the men's golf team, so my ability to watch will be quite limited. I'll record it, but I doubt I'll even choose to watch after I get back. Tournament on Monday, too.

I might pop in on saturday if the weather is alright. I got free tickets for that day. Liberty national isn't really a great place to watch golf. As far as watching golf live goes anyway.. I heard from a friend that the course was re-rerouted to take the finishing holes into grandstands, so i guess that might help.

I just can't get that excited for this. I'll probably throw it on if I'm bored, but it's sort of a meh event. The US team should stomp the internationals. The top to bottom firepower the US has is crazy.

Plus, I've read that the course is not great. The only selling point is its proximity to New York.

I think the reports of the course not being good are over-rated. I think it has some really good holes, and the site forced some really not great holes on there, too.

But the first tee is SURROUNDED by grandstands, the routing is improved for crowd flow, etc. vs. the PGA Tour event it hosted, and the views are really quite good. The greens are good, the fairways feel a bit awkward.

Agreed. I also think that some design flaws that guys gripe about in stroke play golf will be less relevant or apparent in match play.

I don't see any clear landslides coming out of those matches other than probably the Spieth/Reed match which I'm guessing could be ugly for the internationals. All in all though I wouldn't be surprised if things were pretty even at the end of the day tomorrow.

Very true. Some of the goofiest things in stroke play make for quite good match play holes.

Really random stuff never plays well, but high risk/reward holes where everyone plays safely in stroke play can be genius in match play. Thin sections jutting out into water hazards, that sort of thing.

The U.S. will just slowly pull away, as usual, overall. That's what I would predict.

Don't be anywhere near PC if you're driving in the area on Thursday!

I've been impressed with the golf in the coverage.   Fowler and Thomas were amazing but Phil, whom I thought should not have been chosen is playing well.

Watching the second half now, though I know the U.S. did at least earn 3 points.

What is that, 3, 4 former POTUSes? Security must have been insane.

Literally, PRESIDENT'S CUP.

    • Definitely not a favorite… For some reason my wife and I started watching Cobra Kai. I know the original was pretty cheesy, but the inability of these people to get over shit that happened like 30 years ago is astounding. And these kids would be arrested, but they don’t even seem to get suspended from school. Would Danny not notice that Johnny’s son looks like Johnny? Etc.? Why would a completely different dojo that has the same name be “banned”? Oy. Not sure we’ll make it to season 2.
    • Day 139 - 2025-02-16 Weather led to a rescheduled GEARS lesson, so I used the time to work on my swing for 60 minutes or so. All downswing stuff. Some swings at 93 MPH. Most around 75-80.
    • A question I have is…this swing (fade, pull cut) does not  feel as good and easily repeatable as the draw swing we were working on previously.  I’m kinda in a weird spot where I do not know which direction will be the best to pursue. I like seeing a penetrating 5 yard draw but also like the thought of the fade not getting away from me as much.    Any thoughts on that?
    • Day 10: 2/16/2025 Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.  My new priority pieces.
    • Day 26 (16 Feb 25) - Basically a repeat of yesterday- only it was a bit more expanded chips/pitches - 7i, 9i, 50° and 58°.   Big exception was I was hitting groups of 5 one club at a time.  Focused on a specific target point - and coming smoothly through the ball, not punchy.  Got it right about 3 out of 5 - more work needed.
