Day 93: 3/31/2022

Okay, so today there's a big Spring Break Sleep Over at our house. Therefore I've had almost no extra time to do much of anything beside referee and put out more and more food. However, I did just spend the last 30 minutes running back and forth from my computer screen, where I've reviewed my swing and GEARS and coaching notes to the mirror where I've tried to recreate what's on my screen, with a 7 iron.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 151, March 31, 2022

Hit balls after touring a new space (might be good) while waiting for the 3:00 lesson to arrive. Sold the stupid blue Apple Watch, too, and ordered the replacement for Carey.

Day 26.  Hitting chip shots, slowly, off a mat, into a net, real balls, along with some quarter swings.  58 and 54 degree.  Finally got the good feeling again.

Day 75:

Worked on grip and first part of backswing, keeping face neutral, indoors. Felt like I got a good idea of what this feels like (so I don’t need to trace the club with my eyes/head) so tried hitting some balls outside, contact much improved, but need to do a bit of work on recentering to make sure I’m getting to impact with weight forward.

day 27: It has snowed last night (more than the rest of the whole winter, which so far was "not at all" if I remember correctly).. I am standing next to my indoor putting setup right now. starting practice in 3.. 2.. 1...

Day 158 - Rained off and on today so I did some putting practice: (i) swung the putter between 2x4s set 1/2" wider than the putter head trying not to hit the boards, (ii) perfect putt drill then (iii) ladder drill.

Day 113 (01 Apr 22) - Played 18 today.  Brought out some of the older clubs today (R580 driver, 845s Silver Scot irons (3i-SW)).  The 400cc head of the R580 seemed so tiny compared to the G400 460cc head.  Enjoyed the challenge of a less forgiving head.

Day 152, April 1, 2022

Long day with some students and getting ready for the first spring tournament of the season for Behrend, but I got some swing work in while watching the… women's first major of the year. #BigOil

Day 94: 04/01/2022

I was going to say something like I hit 1000 balls today and putted for six hours and then say "April Fools". But I decided against it.

Instead what I did was go back to my last 3 sessions with Yoda, to look into what I've been working on. I carefully examined my GEARs data and my coaching notes. I spent some time working on my older priority pieces just to find some center. Then I worked on my newer priority pieces. Then I went back through my coaching notes to make sure I was doing it right... or at least closer to right.

I feel like this was productive. I might do the same thing tomorrow.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 10: Went to the range for a while. Hit balls and filmed for about 30 minutes. Still working on getting my feel for my priority piece. Not quite there yet - I have to basically stop my swing for a second to get into the position I want to be at. Anyways, after that, went and putted for another 30 minutes or show. Doing some speed/distance control drills. Then went and hit 10 bunker shots, since I hadn't really practiced those in a while,

Day 76:

Got in around 20 minutes of backswing rehearsal during the day. Hit some balls in the evening focusing on feel from last lesson to reduce flipping and hip stall. Too dark to tell if I was successful or not but I was hitting the ball okay (decent contact, start line off to right a bit more than I want).

Day 27.  I know what you're expecting me to say, but no;  today, after work, I spent 10 minutes hitting half shots with my 58 and 54.  Real balls, into a net.  Short game shots are coming out a lot cleaner today and yesterday.  Hopefully tomorrow (playing) too.

(edited)

day 28: it's quite cold here, especially when in the wind, and i walked a round.. prior to that I warmed up with P,7,Dr,9,6,H4 (in that order)..

This weekend they have the yearly "kickoff days" at my local course, so that means club fitting, and some drinks and food.. I tested the Mizuno pro lineup and I hit both, the 221 and 225 well (they didn't have the 223 in 2-up with them, so i couldn't test that one).. I tried multiple different shafts and the NS Modus tour 120 felt the best to me.. the 105 was a tad light with these club heads. The fitter said he'd put me more on the 221 than the 225, but the 223 would probably make most sense for me.

I just did a fitting recently (at another fitter) and my Mizuno 921 Hot metal are already ordered, but the way I hit the 221s today almost made me question my order (and yes i know there's a huge difference between the 221 and the HM and I should not even be looking at them, but I struck them solidly each time and they felt so smooth). My other fitter didn't have any of the other 921 lineup (like the forged or tour) and the 221/223/225 available for testing when I was there, so that's why I went for the 921HM head.

The moral of the story: don't go test clubs after you have just placed an order recently. 😉

Day 159 - Worked on short wedge shots with my 54* wedge today. Hit about 10 balls with the basic motion trying to keep my swing shallow (bounce hits the ground before the leading edge) and make good contact with the ball. Followed with about 20 more balls trying to hit them either high or low. Finally, found spots which were like the rough and hit several balls from different lies, focusing on making good contact. I plan to take this to the practice green early next week.

Day 114 (02 Apr 22) - Worked on shot shaping with the 7i and Birdie Balls in the back yard with focus on the delivery through the "ball".  Incorporated pausing at the top of the backswing and letting the club fall to lock in on the sensation of the club dropping into the groove.  Would then make a full swing and observe the flight.  Based on the shot shape achieved, would revisit the shot process to see where I needed to adjust.  Very methodical session that produced some good feedback.
