That shot was much better than Rahm indicated with his reaction.  I wish all of my poor tee shots on par-3s were as good as that one.

Where did this conventional "wisdom" of using a wedge if you want to hole it, putter if you're satisfied merely getting it close, even come from?

Probably same place as laying up to your number came from.
