David Duval is immensely talented although he fell off the map, he tried to come back and couldn't even barely nudge his way in. Mike Weir too. My memory is failing me, but many have tried and failed. Woods make it look like, oh, I'll just ease my way into the top 50 in the first half year of coming back, no problemo, fused back, swing changes, middle age, the unrelenting media attention, deeper fields, crazy expectations, new clubs. I'm just savoring this so much. With the Fedex Cup, more chances for him to perhaps win one this season. Can only wonder what happens next year.

Let’s not forget it’s not like Tiger’s time off was a timeout for golf. Many young players came to and the field is deeper than ever. Yet here’s Tiger coming back to that with several contentions including leading The Open on Sunday. There is absolutely nothing negative going on regarding Tiger’s progress. Hell a year ago if one of us said we think Tiger will be leading a major on Sunday in 2018 many of you would’ve jumped all over such an outlandish prediction.

Agree 100% about the young guys. As far as the Open lead, He was a bunch of holes ahead of the leaders, and he had the lead for about a minute. Then he face planted. As far as where "we thought he'd be" at this point, I remember a thread back in January where a lot of guys picked him to win multiple times. Some even had him winning majors. Not a major, majors. Finally, am I the only one who sees a guy having trouble putting 4 rounds together, or playing passively when in contention?

No he wasn't. He was in the third to last group out.

And again, HE was the leader at that time.

76% said 0 majors. Someone named "@TigerIsTheGOAT" and a known troll picked 4.

FWIW I said 1 win, 0 majors. And again, he's 7th in strokes gained, and is the only player in the top 10 without a win.

This is your problem in a nutshell.

He's stating some facts about former players; players who didn't have the surgeries and issues Tiger has had, and how tough a "comeback" can be.

That’s just a typical naysayer refusing to acknowledge anything impressive about what Tiger’s doing. If Tiger won a major this year you’d say, ‘yeah but he’s only won one this year.’ I think you’re being pretty hard headed about this.

This conversation started with my asking how long would Tiger continue on without a win. Considering all he's accomplished in his career, I don't see him as the type happy to just contend. Sorry you feel I'm being hardheaded. I don't mean to be. I appreciate what he's done this year. To be honest I wasn't sure he' be physically be able to make it through the season until we learned more about the type of surgery he had. I will admit I'm not overly impressed by HOW he's played though. I don't remember the old Tiger playing the way he does now and I don't see the progress others do.. His game looks the same as it did in January, and he looks like he's wearing down with one of the busiest parts of the schedule ahead. He played this week, then has the PGA next week, followed by the FedEx playoffs. The fields are strong each event, and that's a tough road for a 42(?) year old who's body has been through what his has.

And yet the guy is leading a major on Sunday and you incorrectly diminish that accomplishment. Nah. You’re just one of those who doesn’t like Tiger.

Why is it when anyone asks a question about Tiger, and doesn't gush over him the way some here do, they're hard headed, a nay sayer, or heaven forbid, "just one of those..."

Because, among the tens of reasons you've given, as it relates to this conversation… you get basic facts wrong and in doing so, paint Tiger in a (false and) bad light.

You can have a different opinion. But you're not entitled to your own facts.

Here's the deal, man… you're a Tiger troll. Look back at your posts here. There were a few people posting about Tiger, but you had to come in with a ridiculous bit about how he's "just a guy" and you give it "one year" or whatever.

Dude, you started this.

Want to not have this experience? Don't talk about Tiger. You just can't help yourself; you post troll-like comments about him regardless of the facts.

Now, I'm pretty excited to see a Rory/JT final round tomorrow. I'm glad Tiger could play one more time at Firestone. I am looking forward to him playing at Bellerive. Beyond that, I'm not blowing one round out of proportion and trolling like you are.

Which facts are those? How long did he have that lead? 5 minutes? Please, don't change this into something it isn't. I merely asked if Tiger would play beyond next year without a win. I didn't throw out tens of reasons, and how and when did I say anything bad, or false about him?

For f***'s sake, just in this topic alone:

  • Tiger was in the third to last group. He played with the eventual winner and was still in contention with a few holes to go.
  • Tiger has multiple top ten finishes this year.
  • Tiger has played well enough to win a few times (stats, top finishes).
  • Tiger has not indicated at all that he feels he's "just a guy."

Oh brother.

You're doing that, pal, with your bullshit about how he was "a bunch of holes ahead of the leaders" and about how he's "just a guy" or feels that way, when every indication says the opposite, including Tiger's own words. His OWGR ascent. His finishes. His scoring. His stats.

You're a Tiger troll. Just stop commenting about him; you can't help yourself.

Tiger talk aside, I saw the first two day's scoring and thought, "Oh geez! Here's the new crop of pros making "old" Firestone look like the local muni!" Man, did that worm turn today! And the wind wasn't really blowing. Should be a fun watch tomorrow.

I only watched for a bit, but the number of massive shots over trees was a spectacle in itself. These guys can hit it high, hit it low, curve it left, curve it right. It is amazing to watch.

I understood what you meant , and didn't take it as you hating on Tiger. Just seemed a reasonable musing. I'd wondered the same as I saw him slip back yesterday, and I've been rooting for him in all of his tournaments this year.

Thank you so much for that. it is much appreciated. Unfortunately this is not the place to question anything Tiger, or do anything other then root for and laud him. Anything else is attacked as 'trolling".

Not really. Leading a major on Sunday is by all counts an incredible accomplishment with regards to Tiger making a comeback. Making up something to diminish that is not in my opinion a reasonable musing of the situation.

You’re being ridiculous. The guy was leading a major on Sunday. Period. You can make up all the reasons you want to diminish that. It’s a damn good accomplishment this early into his return to golf. We all have our critiques of Tiger’s play. We don’t praise him no matter what. But we have common sense and are able to give credit where it’s due. You’re just obsessed with knocking Tiger and are actually more of non-fan than we are fans. Move on chief. It’s getting old.

Tiger opens birdie-birdie-par.  I'm watching while entertaining some guests.  We agree that if Tiger continues this trend and shoots twelve under for the day, he has a chance to win this thing.

Terrible take. You flat out misstated facts in a troll-like attempt to diminish what he’s done this year. When these facts are pointed out to you, you’ve got nothing to say. Just like you pretending that a bunch of people voted that he’d win multiple majors this year alone. Not true. And when corrected, you’ve got nothing to say.

Here is another fact supporting Tiger’s play this year.

Tiger is 8th in the Sagarin world rankings.

http://rankings.golfweek.com/rankings/default.asp?T=world

Sorry. I was wrong. He’s 7th.

P.S. The OWGR has a decided European bias, and a 40-event divisor, and yet even given those his top 50 ranking is big, too.
