Can I set the club head close to ball in a hazard. And then kick the club head to cause it to strike the ball?

Are you asking if you can do it or are you asking if it's legal?

Yes. I do it all the time. It's a great method that very few golfers are aware of.

Occasionally, someone will argue that it isn't legal. When that happens, I'll place my club head close to their shin and then kick the club head to cause it to strike their shin. As he's hoppin' around on one foot holding his leg, I'll turn to the others in the group and ask "anyone else think this isn't legal?".

Sounds questionable, and I don't know why you'd want to do it. And there's the phrase "set your club". Grounding your club in a hazard incurs a penalty.

No.

Sigh.

OK...what you describe is prohibited by Rule 14-1:

14-1. General

a. Fairly Striking the Ball

The ball must be fairly struck at with the head of the club and must not be pushed, scraped or spooned.

So, it’s as legal as it is useful.

14-1a/6 Player Holds Club with Left Hand and Moves Ball by Striking Shaft with Other Hand

Q.A player addresses his ball lying in high grass on a steep bank. His ball does not move, but the player believes it will move if he takes a backswing. Accordingly, the player holds the club with his left hand and strikes the shaft of the club with his right hand, thereby moving the ball. Is this permissible?

A.No. The player pushed the ball, contrary to Rule 14-1.

    • No…? When we edit the title of topics, a little note appears.
    • Rush or delay your own pace and you are probably going to suffer in the long run. PGA pro are well oiled machines that work on an specific pace, it's not surprise that if you move them out of their normal routine things are going to go sideways. I normally don't rush shots, but I sometimes delay the trigger if I'm not feeling it. The result is a lack of athleticism, I kind of get a little stiff and I could loose some yards and accuracy.
    • It seems like the title to this thread may have been edited. Super hilarious BTW.
    • Argentina: I read about the 3 or 4 clubs challenge in several countries. Here in Argentina, once a year, on several clubs, "Torneo de Brujas" (The witches tournament) is played. It consist on the same concept, only 4 clubs are allowed but the difference is that only woman can play it. What amaze me is that the winning scores are almost the same as if they were playing with all 14 clubs. Seems like sorcery to me..
