Knee Drop Height - Absurd or Just Something to Get Used To?

This has to be one of the sillier discussions I've seen on the rules, either new rules or old ones.  It's ridiculously simple to do, shouldn't be any reason I can think of for disputing it logically.

Why would that make a difference? If bending over to drop a ball looks stupid, then bending over to pick up a ball or place it on a tee also looks stupid.

I caught a few minutes of the lpga contest yesterday. I saw a young lady take a knee high drop. No big deal as long as the rules people don't look for perfection. 

Luckily not I or others I have played with recently have had to take a drop.

That may have been true 25-30 years ago, but it is no longer! At least for the "herd"! There are a few writers who are well respected enough that their editors will pretty much leave them alone. But, they are dwindling in number.

And Hell! If you want ridiculous go back to the old days where you had to turn your back to the drop zone and drop the ball behind your shoulder! I think the powers that be could have done better by making the rule that you drop it at arm's length.

Players get the same range (six inches or so? maybe eight?) as they did with "shoulder height."

      I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.

      Day 467 - 2026-01-10 Practiced at Pinehurst every day I was there, and before Junior Elite this morning I got fifteen minutes of backswing checks in the mirror in.
