  1. I live a stones throw from a 9 hole course, can practically walk there, it's great for those days when I only have a little time or a practice round, walk for $15. I learned to play on a par 3 course, spent my first year playing there and there alone, it's a replica course with the each hole a best of par 3's from around the country, very cool, and it has lights so you can play at night! open till 1am in the summer. I won't go to the short courses if I have time to play a round, but will in a pinch, and to practice.
  2. I'm thinking fake, photoshopped.
  3. We all know golf is a perishable skill, and it was foolish to think even a Tiger Woods could take so much time off from the game and come back to make cuts, the players who make cuts play golf every day, every hour, every minute of their lives, those that don't miss cuts. He may not ever get back to tour level golf, he may simply be too old at this point, sure some maintain it into their 40's but it's not many. But he isn't that far off like Rory said, he's not out there hacking it up, he just needs to play a lot of golf and get back into the groove, and it may take a full season to get back to that point, golf is that hard, is he willing to do that? is he willing to miss a ton of cuts and still go out there? maybe.
  4. It's just a better game when walking. - the peace and quiet, no cart noise - your bag is always right there, clubs are ready to swap, towel - solitude, no sweaty guy sitting right next to you - no cart path only, freedom to roam - carts add a frantic feel to a round, move! move! move! got your club? ok I'm moving! - exercise, I'm totally spent after walking 36 holes, that feels great, even 18 can be a decent workout I bet those courses in Europe that don't allow carts and everyone walks don't have nearly the same slow play issues as the US, I could be wrong but doubt it, the game is meant to be walked.
  5. The like that the game I play is essentially the same as the pros, I want to feel the game they play, I want to know I'm far worse and to marvel at them, I don't want any type of system to make me feel better, I feel great shooting bogey golf as it is, don't need any other system.
  6. Brandel admitted his mistake and apologized, so he did the right thing- Eventually, Chamblee deleted his original tweet and apologized for the mistake. The 30 of 32 players had a negative HLA (Horizontal Launch Angle), which relates to the direction of the ball, not the angle of attack. To further understand swing analysis.
  7. Amazon, recycled, usually about $25-30 for two dozen, like new.
  8. I don't think it's all that controversial, watch most tour driver swings and it does not look like they are hitting up on the ball much at all, and until we hear another reason why Rory cracked that rib the extreme workouts are the culprit, so 1-up for Brandel.
  9. I agree, there's no reason to even talk about it, silly idea, never gonna happen, they don't need to cater to those that can't even play 9 and it won't fix slow play.
  10. I may be wrong but I bet you'll find a lot more pros that play fairly slow than fast, maybe not Day slow but slow enough, when a big paycheck is on the line most of you would be slow as well. So I kind of agree with Day, if he plays better slow and makes more money slow then slow it is, they can wait, too bad. But I agree that this doesn't matter to me the fan, the camera just toggles to another player so what do I care? 5 hour rounds? cry me a river, they can come do my job for 10 hours tomorrow instead of me, I'll go suffer the golf.
  11. I've given up the long range sessions so I never reach the fatigue point there, small buckets only for me. But on the course I frequently walk 27 holes and start to feel it towards the end, the legs are toast and golf with tired legs is like sex without... well you know.
  12. At address make sure the handle of the club is pointing at your belt buckle, don't press the hands forward, and during the downswing don't let your head move towards the target, pick a spot on the ground about where your head is at address and consider that the line of scrimmage, you can't let your head pass that line until the ball is away, but that rule doesn't apply for rest of your body!
  13. Sadly winter depression started here on LI a lot sooner than years past, I usually play through December and end the season just about on the new year, but not in 2016, I haven't played in weeks, it was pretty much over on November 1st, a few chilly rounds since but nothing like previous years, total bummer.
  14. Boo-hoo, don't like it? quit, this is modern life with social media, this will never stop unless someone turns off the internet, so go tend bar if you can't handle the asshole comments, every celebrity has to deal with this, or better yet- just ignore it. Paige has to accept that she's a star because of her looks, nothing else, and she promoted that, so now she has to deal with the hate for that path to success, and a lot of people don't like it.
  15. The rules should be relaxed to make the game better, for both pros and casual players.
  16. I say BS, anyone can do it, but for an adult it can take years to learn how to just be decent at golf, yes years. And if that adult is not athletic or lacking good motor functions those years can get longer. 5 months? how long have you been playing? 5 months is nothing for a new golfer, you should not be expecting much, try working with just 1-2 clubs consistently, don't bounce around the bag. Also don't go listening to those that say they started a year ago and are playing to a good HC, it's either total BS (most likely) or they played golf when they were younger. Golf is all about the hard, love that part of the game, don't let it beat you, because if you stick with it and learn after spending years on it you will be rewarded and it feels very, very good.
  17. The positives have to be really encouraging for Tiger, he can certainly compete right now and if he fixes his short game wins will come, but that chipping is a huge concern, and considering he's probably been practicing it like wild of late he may be facing a long term problem there. It's tough to win without a sound short game, a little wild off the tee can be fixed with a great iron game, which he has, but nothing can fix bad chipping, too many doubles looming. Also his swing is still so violent, I guess a guy can't be a pro golfer without going after it but I do not see him staying healthy with that much torque in every drive.
  18. I doubt it, the game has been trying for ages to no avail, I think young pros are given lots of TV attention on purpose for just this reason, they do everything they can to make it appeal to the youth, but it's futile, that view will never change. On a personal level I'm happy about it, I have no interest in golf courses becoming a mall scene, young Americans just don't have the demeanor for golf, I can't imagine playing a course full of young people, just one group can haunt a round.
  19. I live by the Jack Nicklaus rule for this- tee the ball up a bit, it's an advantage. There's no reason not too, it's just easier to hit the ball clean off a raised tee, there's less chance of a fat or thin shot, better control. Some guys I play with think it's strange, that you want to "trap" the ball against the ground to get the best contact, that's total bunk. I go for about 1/4" of air for most irons, and maybe like 1/2" for woods and hybrid.
  20. I don't think a long break will help anything, but a short break can be great if you're struggling, something like 2-4 weeks, any more is just crazy talk though, nothing about that is going to help your game.
  21. It's terrible, and boring, do golfers really care that much about equipment? nope, they buy a driver that has the basic specs they like, and looks good to them, and they move on, all this Shark Tank stuff is silly. I'm an avid GC watcher but turn the page on this show, makes me wish they would bring back Big Break for the off season, at least that show had some hot chicks to look at.
  22. 100 yds is a full SW for me, or a soft GW, it depends on the green and conditions but I'll take the full shot most times, usually when I hit it fat with a wedge it's when I go soft, also that's good spin and stop yardage so I want a fuller swing for that as well.
  23. I don't like how longer putts feel with the big grip, or lack of feel really, and those are the most important to me because I seem to be on the furthest part of the green every hole. I like the feedback with a standard grip, I want to feel the mishit, that's all I care about, so the fatty has been retired for me.
  24. I like it, people that think he's nuts have it all wrong, he smiled and laughed, he knows it's unlikely, but giving up is for wimps, saying "No" would have been lame, he's Tiger and he should be showing some bravado even now, he's earned it. It's stuff like this that makes him continue to be likable.
