  1. So for the past two years I have started what I call the "Annual Cracked Open" where I get 12-20 friends together and we have a weekend of golf. We are, for the most part, based in the Southeast, and mainly in the NC and SC areas. The first year we had it at the Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, SC. Last year we played at Rocky River in Concord (right outside of Charlotte). So I am starting to brainstorm for next year's location and didn't know if you guys might have any ideas. Here are a few things to help with what we are looking for: 1) Fairly accessable for folks that live mostly in the Southeast, spread from Birmingham, to Atlanta, Greenville SC, Charlotte, and Charleston 2) We are all in our late 20s and consider this a weekend to get together and enjoy each other's company while also playing some golf, so locations that either have cabins or the like, or are near cities/towns with some good bars is a plus. 3) Pretty reasonable cost-wise. As much as I'd love to do a full weekend at Pinehurst or Harbor Towne, that just isn't in our wheelhouse just yet. Here are the locations I am currently thinking about: Athens, Savannah, Raleigh, Asheville, Birmingham, Chattanooga, or Myrtle Beach.
  2. I bought my Callaway XR from Golfsmith 3 weeks ago. It is the regular XR, and was on sale for $150, and I got $50 on trading in my R15 3wood that I can't hit worth a lick. I am really liking the XR so far. It replaced my old Nike SR8FIT SQ driver that I loved, but knew it was time to upgrade. My distance is about the same with the new driver, but I am far more accurate so far. I would give it 5 stars at the moment. It is a 10.5* with a stiff shaft.
  3. The first tip is to practice more and get generally better at the game. The better you are, the more you will enjoy the competitions. My first few tournaments I was not very good, so obviously I did not enjoy them as much. My other piece of advice would be to have a pre-round routine that you follow. Do whatever works for you best to get you loose and put you in the mindset that is relaxed yet focused. I find that having a "tournament routine" helps me get in the right mindset versus just a normal round for fun. Personally, I like to get to the course about 45 mins before my tee time. I take my time with a small bucket of range balls, hitting a few wedges, then about 5-6 seven irons, a few 4 irons, then only 2-3 swings with my driver before hitting 3-5 more wedge shots. This helps to loosen me up and just get a feel for my swing that day. I'll then take my time walking over to the putting green, and putt for about 10 minutes before heading to the tee box. Throughout all of this I stay relaxed and take my time, even grabbing a snack and a gatorade for the round. Again, this is just a small piece of advice that I like to follow for my pre-tournament routine. Good luck out there.
  4. Thanks! I see the title was changed to "albatross" instead of "double eagle". Guess I've just always heard it referred to as a double eagle here in South Carolina, though I know across the pond it is always called an albatross.
  5. Just wanted to share that I had a double eagle yesterday, not to brag, but just because I'm still excited about it. It is my longest hole out by far, as my previous long was around 85 yards. I was playing Furman Golf Club in Greenville, and on #15 I pulled my drive a little to the right, though I hit it well. Had 235 to the green out of the pinestraw. Was able to give it a pretty good rip and knew it was a decent shot, but figured it rolled off the back and I could get up and down for my birdie. It was quite the site to peek in the cup and see my ball in there. Unfortunately I still limped to a round in the 80s...but writing that 2 on the scorecard on that hole felt great.
  6. Finally was able to play some this weekend, as my girlfriend got me a dozen of the Tour and Pro models. Long story short, made a double eagle (first one in my life) from 235 out (3 iron). It was a pretty incredible experience. Not that the ball completely made it happen, but lets just say there are now good vibes in my head when it comes to Vice golf balls.
  7. Thanks for sharing. I like Webb's looks as well, and also Sned's Peter Milar lineup. I'm a big fan of the Nike blade collar, but can't say that I particularly like all the gray that Rory will be wearing this week. Was hoping to see some blue or green in there for him.
  8. I received my email today that I didn't get tickets. Ten years running. This one was a big kick to the jewels as today is my birthday also haha.
  9. I'm a lefty, so I keep things I need on the tee in my left pocket so that I don't have to reach in there with a glove hand. Left pocket: tees, usually 3 or 4 taller tees and a few broken ones, and an extra ball Right Pocket: Masters repair tool with magnetic ball marker and chap stick Back pockets: nothing, I always take my wallet out and put it in my bag.
  10. I have a pair of the flyknit tennis shoes that I absolutely love, and these look pretty cool, but I am skeptical about the cleat pattern. Looks like it would chew up a lot of stuff just walking around (as mentioned above, especially on some damp greens).
  11. Since I was only able to get on board about halfway through this segment, I'm really looking forward to actually starting out a level playing field for the third segment. Playing from so far behind hasn't been much fun, even though I've had some decent weeks.
  12. Sounds good, sir!
  13. Awesome thread. I had fun reading through each post. I play on an Amateur Tour in Upstate SC, and we have a tournament this weekend at Bonnie Brae golf club. It's a fun little "tour" with guys that shoot in the 60s all the way up to guys that shoot in the 100s, stroke play, net scoring. We normally have a turnout of between 40-60. Last year in this tournament I played really bad (96) but have been playing fairly well lately, so my goal is to shoot 88 Saturday. I will update next week. In our previous tournament I made a quad on #18 to shoot 92...ouch.
  14. I think they don't want to compete with the PGA tour for the golf viewership, which is why they finish it up on a Tues and Wed. It was exciting to watch, I always enjoy college golf. The passion those guys show is second to none. However, Hossler not being able to play put a bit of a damper on the team championship. I find it crazy that you can't use an alternate in a case like that. His par from the bunker while putting on Tuesday was incredible.
  15. Looks like we are going to see some really low scores today. A lot of birdies so far on the front nine. Hudson Swafford shoots a 29 on the front.
  16. I think the clubs look great, and the pros using them are having some pretty good success. I just can't justify the money for them. But for those that can, I would say go for it.
  17. "I am Staying Ahead of the Game with Sun Mountain!" 1. Jordan Spieth -2 2. Patrick Reed E 3. Kevin Kisner -1
  18. Thanks for the review. I reckon I will order a dozen (or maybe their "sampler" pack) to try them out.
  19. This is such a cool idea. Sorry for the delay you are having, family losses are always tough to deal with. However, I am glad to hear that you are planning to continue on. I might have to do something like this when I retire (which is in 20 years). I couldn't really tell from the summaries, have you played in Columbia, SC yet? If not, let me know when you plan on it and I can possibly drive down. I used to live there, but am in Greenville now. Also, big shout out to @jsgolfer for coming through on the golf course in Annapolis!
  20. Has anyone tried the Vice line of golf balls? They look very intriguing to me, I just wanted to see if anyone on here has tried them or even use them regularly. I currently switch around golf balls pretty often depending on what people give me as gifts and also what I just impulsively buy at Golfsmith. I've bounced from the Taylormade Burner, to ProV1s, to ProV1xs, to NXTs, and Nike RZNs lately. I really want to try and settle on a consistent ball to hopefully get more consistent results out of my game.
  21. Agreed, I like the guy a lot. I didn't realize he was that old, either. Still has probably 5 good years in him to get some more Ws.
  22. Huh? I fail to see the bath robe resemblance? Maybe you were referring to the picture with the "roll" collar above. This is the blade collar polo.
  23. I am going to say either Beau Hossler or Cole Hammer. Both have some serious game and got exposed to some tour events at a young age. I think Hossler is finishing up his collegiate career, and Hammer is in the middle of his. I would love to see one of the Clemson guys like Stephen Behr get on tour and win a few events. I also like these guys that are currently on tour but not "big names": Tony Finau, James Hahn, and Smiley Kaughman.
  24. Are you OK with players walking towards the edge of the green towards the carts, but not fully off the green? I tend to do that so that I can A) gather my own thoughts and B) try to give them space to clean up their putts. I always figured as long as I stayed on the green or the fringe, though, that it wouldn't be seen as being too rude, esp not as rude as storming off to the cart.
