Just a question for the low handicappers here (10 or under). Do you mind playing with high handicappers? I'm obviously not a good golfer but I play fast and observe ettiquite. Is that all you look for or does having somebody hacking through the woods & rough throw you off your game?
I've played with a bunch of really good golfers (Mostly good guys) but sometimes you can just tell that guys get a little peeved. I used to have to play with 5 hc because of my job and if he didn't play well would make comments about having to play with someone not as good as he was. Just curious.
my get up and go musta got up and went..

I have never had an issue playing with higher handicaps as long as they observe the etiquette as you said. It is, after all, just a game and you are not competing during these types of rounds.

I play with a friend who is for sure a max handicap and I've posted ALL my best scores while him and I play as a twosome. I play bad when I got guys who are around my range that proceed to get angry about every shot and everyone starts to feel the tension. Max Handicap just does something awful and we laugh about it and everyone stays relaxed.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

It does somewhat thow my game off but its much more fun to play with those guys. I hate playin with people around my handicap because they all think they are a putt away from fame and riches and throw hissy fits when the inevitable happens. It happens everytime they play so why the animosity? I dunno.

I will golf with anybody as long as they keep up pace of play and have decent etiquette.

I am not low by any means, but I don"t mind playing with high handicaps.

I play some of my best golf with my mom who is nearly 65 and plays only one or twice per year. Her Dad (My Grandfather) was an avid golfer and I belong to the same club as he did so she really enjoys being out on the course where her dad played 5,000+ rounds. She will shoot around 130, but I always shoot lower then my cap, as I am really relaxed and in coaching her around the course I end up coaching myself.

I can guarantee low cappers don't mind playing with me. I join up with groups all the time and by the end we are all glad to have played together.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

I hate to say this, but I cant stand playng with SOME high HI like 25's. If they played like me when I was a 25, I can deal. I would struggle up to the hole, but I would play quickly.

I have played with some 25's that take all day to get on the green, the waiting takes me out of my game especially when they will hit balls into hard to find areas.

I cant focus when Im playing with a group that goofs off on the course. My best rounds occur when I play with groups that are better than me it brings out the competitor in me.

If it's a practice round, then I have absolutely no problem with playing with higher handicappers. But, in tournaments, I usually tend to play like my playing partners. If I'm with a higher handicapper, I'll tend to do worse, and vise versa.

I tend to play well when I'm not trying to compete agaiNst someone. I really like enjoying the game instead of trying to prove that I can play below my handicap because I play out of one of the hardest courses in the state and many time lowish handicaps (like 8-12) can forget that even scratch players have off days when they shoot 40 on the front and little comments can throw you into a terrible mood because alot of people like that expect to see the next tiger woods from a scratch golfer and it gets annoying fast when your having an off day.

I go out on the weekends a lot as a single and thus am paired up with high cappers all the time. I have no problem playing with them. I've had great fun and met many cool people that are great to play with. The only exception is lack of knowledge of etiquette and slow play, which tends to accompany them. I don't care how many shots you take, just be ready to hit before it is your turn. I've played with 30+ hcp guys who did a great job of this but have played with ~15 hcp guys who are terrible at it. Some people hit their shot then just zone out until it is their turn again. But as a general rule, don't care about the ability of the people I play with.

I actually just played in a tournament last weekend and got paired with an 11, 18 and a 21 handicapper.....had an absolute blast....not the best players (the 21 seemed to be more like a 30), but some pretty good guys that don't take life too seriously........I happen to play very well that day as well

A couple of the guys I regularly play with are 15+ handicappers and always look forward to playing with them when we can get out....

No problem playing with high cappers as long as they keep things moving. Don't play slow, and just know the basic etiquette. Other then that I don't care what your handicap or level is!

I don't mind playing with anyone as long as they keep the pace of play up and can observe some simple golf etiquette.

Same with me. As long as they are courteous and keep a good pace i can play with anyone. Its not bad golf that throws me off my game, its waiting too long in between shots. If we're looking for your ball on every hole and 4 jackin greens then i might want to beat you with my 9 iron...

If i am polaying with a high handicap player who cares about their game i am fine. When i go out with my friends who are just there to have a good time and hit some balls, i usually play poorly. When i play with someone better than me i ususally have a good round. Sort of play with my competition.

It depends on the people really. I can get along with pretty much anyone for 4-5 hours, and I've met some great people who were not very good at golf. For the most part, we're playing just for fun anyway, so why not try to have some. Higher handicaps might get offended when I sort of shut down, socially, while in the middle of a string of good holes. Sorry about that - working on it.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
